Opis:
In this study, SAE 1020 steel surfaces were separately alloyed with preplaced high-carbon-ferro-chromium (FeCr), ferro-molybdenum (FeMo) and ferro-titanium (FeTi) powders by using plasma transferred arc (PTA) heat source. By using three different types of shielding gas compositions during the alloying process, the study investigated the effects of modified shielding gas composition on the microstructure, hardness, and abrasive wear resistance of specimens. The most homogenous microstructure and the highest wear resistance was obtained in the gaseous environment which included 3% of H2. Increasing this rate to 5 % in the shielding gaseous composition caused gaps and pores in the microstructure and caused a decrease in the wear resistance. The x-ray examinations of the specimens identified ferro-molybdenum and ferro-titanium solid solutions, ferrit, austenite and martensite phases in their microstructure as the first phase and FeC, Cr7C3, Cr3C2, Fe3C, Fe7C3, MoC and TiC phases as the second phase. As a result, it was concluded that changes in shielding gas composition in surface alloying process affected specimens’ microstructure and abrasive wear properties.
Powierzchnie stalowe SAE 1020 były oddzielnie stopowane z wcześniej nałożonymi proszkami wysokowęglowego żelazo-chromu (FeCr), żelazo-molibdenu (FeMo) i żelazo-tytanu (FeTi) za pomocą techniki PTA.

Opis:
Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is the most widely used filler material in paper, paint, plastic, food, ceramic, cosmetic, medicine and other industries. In the present paper, precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) has been produced from waste marble powder (WMP) by the Calcination-Dissolution-Precipitation (CDP) method. Calcination, dissolution and precipitation experiments were carried out under various conditions including : calcination temperature (800, 850, 900, 950 and 1000 °C), dissolution time (2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 min) and precipitation time (2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, 12.5 and 15.0 min). Then, XRF, XRD, SEM, particle size, whiteness, brightness and yellowness analyses were performed for the characterization of the produced PCC materials. The analyses showed that the precipitate was mainly micrometer-sized (d50 = 1.682 μm) rhombohedral calcium carbonate crystals with 54.5% CaO. The whiteness, brightness and yellowness tests of the precipitates, conducted by Datacolor Elrepho 450x spectrometer, were determined to be 91.28, 98.2 and 1.99%, respectively. It was finally concluded that the produced PCC material reasonably meets Turkish Standards (TS 11653/1995) and can be used in paper industry.

Opis:
Hydroxyapatite is the main component of human hard tissues such as bones and teeth. Because it has a great biocompatibility with human organism, it is used as biomaterial with the purpose of form and repair hard tissues. Hydroxyapatite is formulated as $Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2$ and shows high stability under physiological conditions. In this study, biomimetic hydroxyapatite powder has been synthesized using by synthetic body fluids which has the same composition as human blood plasma. Moreover, the effect of different precursors on properties of synthesized powders has been investigated. For that purpose calcium nitrate tetrahydrate $[Ca(NO_3)_2 ·4H_2O]$, calcium chloride $[CaCl_2]$, calcium hydroxide $[Ca(OH)_2]$ and diammonium hydrogen phosphate $[(NH_4)_2HPO_4]$ were used as precursors. Mainly literature focused on the synthesis of hydroxyapatite powders was carried out using chemical method. However, in this study, the synthesis of hydroxyapatite powder is carried out using biomimetic method. Chemical structures of synthesized powders have been investigated by the Fourier transform infrared and X-ray diffraction methods. Results showed that synthesized powders have a pure hydroxyapatite structure. Surface area of the synthesized powders was measured by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. Morphological structures have been characterized by using scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore, particle size of powders was calculated using the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. It was clearly seen that morphological properties of biomimetic hydroxyapatite have affected the use of different calcium precursors.

Opis:
In this study, six different Turkish coals were studied. One of them was Zonguldak coal and the others were low rank Turkish lignites. The amount of the pyrolysed gases of the coal as $CH_4$, $C_3H_8$, $CO$, $CO_2$, $SO_2$ were determined from the experiments by using several first order reaction models that include energy distribution and the activation energy distribution during the pyrolysis was calculated at the same time. The results of pyrolysis experiments of coals were examined by means of several first order reaction models that include energy distribution. The tar amounts and overall conversion of six different coals, activation energies of nine volatile components output, standard variation values that belong to their energy distribution, maximum quantity of product of each component and molecular collision coefficients were determined. As a result of using these variables in the model equations, conversion quantities for all of the compounds of six types of coals and variation of activation distribution functions with respect to the kinds of coals were presented graphically with a comparison of the cited data in references.

Opis:
Hydroxyapatite is the main component of natural hard tissues, such as teeth and bone. It has been studied extensively as a candidate biomaterial for its use in prosthetic applications. Hydroxyapatite was formulated as $Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2$ and it has a high stability under physiological conditions. Also hydroxyapatite can be synthesized using different calcium and phosphorus precursors. In this study, biomimetic hydroxyapatite powder has been synthesized simulating physiological conditions. Synthetic body fluids which have the same composition as human blood plasma instead of pure water were used as precipitation media to obtain biological conditions. Recent research involved the effect of different Ca-precursors however aim of this study is to determine the effect of phosphorus resources. In this study, the synthesis of hydroxyapatite powder is carried out by using biomimetic method in synthetic body fluids. Calcium acetate $[Ca(CH_3COO)_2, CA]$ and diammonium hydrogen phosphate $[(NH_4)_2HPO_4, DAHP]$, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate $[NH_4H_2PO_4, ADHP]$, dipotassium hydrogen phosphate $[K_2HPO_4, DPHP]$ and orthophosphoric acid $[H_3PO_4, OPA]$ were used as Ca- and P-precursors. Chemical structures of synthesized powders have been examined by Fourier transform infrared and X-ray diffraction. Results showed that synthesized powders have a pure hydroxyapatite structure. However, ADHP precursors have an unfavorable effect on sintered hydroxyapatite powders. Using ADHP phase transition was caused in pure hydroxyapatite structure and apatite and whitlockite were observed as secondary phases. Their particle size, surface area determination and morphological structures have been characterized by Zeta-Sizer, biomimetic hydroxyapatite the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis and scanning electron microscopy images, respectively. As a result different starting materials have affected the structure, particle size and morphological properties of biomimetic hydroxyapatite.

Opis:
It is a well-identified fact that more elaborate laboratory studies should be carried out for evaluation of dynamic properties of different types of soils. Regardless of the mechanisms affecting the mechanical behaviour of the soils, past studies reveal that existence of fiber positively affects the strength of either cohesive or non-cohesive soils. A short literature survey provides numerous studies on the stress-strain behaviour of fine/coarse soils, reinforced by polypropylene fiber. On the other hand, studies concerning fiber reinforced soils subjected to dynamic loading are relatively rare. Therefore, in this research it was intended to investigate the effects of polypropylene fiber inclusion on the dynamic behavior of a clayey sand soil, within an experimental framework. In this scope, a number of cyclic triaxial compression tests were conducted to assess the effect of fiber presence. The effects of fiber length and content were experimentally evaluated. Hence, the variation of shear modulus ratio and damping ratio values by shear deformation was plotted to observe the effects of fiber length and inclusion level as well. The results are presented along with detailed evaluations.
