Opis:
This work deals with the simulation of the growth kinetics of the $(FeB//Fe_2B)$ bilayer and the diffusion zone on a substrate of AISI 316 stainless steel exposed to the powder-pack boriding process, in the temperature range of 1123-1273 K and a time duration ranging from 2 to 10 h. The developed diffusion model employs a set of mass balance equations at the three growth fronts: [$(FeB//Fe_2B),$ (FeB/diffusion zone) and (diffusion zone/substrate)] under certain assumptions, including the effect of the incubation times during the formation of iron borides and the diffusion zone. For this purpose, a computer code written in Matlab (version 6.5) was created to simulate the boriding kinetics. A good concordance was obtained when comparing the experimental parabolic growth constants taken from the literature and the simulated values of the parabolic growth constants: ($k_{FeB},$ $k_1$ and $k_2$). Moreover, the present model was also used to predict the thicknesses of the $FeB$ and $Fe_2B$ layers and the diffusion zone thickness at various treatment times and boriding temperatures. The simulated values were in good agreement with the experimental borided layers thicknesses.

Opis:
The present study aimed at investigating the control of upright quiet standing in pregnant women throughout pregnancy, and whether low-back pain exerts influence on this motor task. Methods: Myoelectric signals from postural muscles and stabilometric data were collected from 15 non-pregnant and 15 pregnant women during upright quiet standing. Electromyogram envelopes and center of pressure metrics were evaluated in the control group, as well as in pregnant women in their first and third trimester of pregnancy. A correlation analysis was performed between the measured variables and a low-back pain disability index. Results: Pregnant women exhibited a decreased maximum voluntary isometric activity for all postural muscles evaluated. Additionally, the activity of lumbar muscles during the postural task was significantly higher in the pregnant women in comparison to the non-pregnant controls. The soleus muscle maintained its activity at the same level as the gestation progressed. Higher postural oscillations were observed in the anteroposterior direction while mediolateral sway was reduced in the third trimester of pregnancy. No correlation was detected between the lowback pain disability index and neuromechanical variables. Conclusion: This study provides additional data regarding the functioning and adaptations of the postural control system during pregnancy. Also, we provide further evidence that postural control during quiet standing cannot be used to predict the occurrence of low-back pain. We hypothesize that the modifications in the neural drive to the muscles, as well as in postural sway may be related to changes in the biomechanics and hormonal levels experienced by the pregnant women.

Opis:
The equine infectious anaemia virus (EIAV) is one of the most serious equine diseases worldwide. There is scarce information on the epizootiology of equine infectious anaemia (EIA) in Saudi Arabia. Given the importance of the equine industry in Saudi Arabia, this cross- -sectional study aims to provide information about the prevalence of EIAV based on serological surveillance of the equine population in the country. A total of 4728 sera samples were collected (4523 horses and 205 donkeys) between December 2017 and November 2019. All samples were tested using commercially available EIAV ELISA. All tested samples showed negative results for EIAV antibodies with a 95% confidence interval. The results provided evidence that Saudi Arabia’s equine populations (horses and donkeys) are currently free of EIAV. The results also suggest the need for continuous monitoring of EIAV and strict regulation when importing horses from other countries.

Opis:
We have investigated the point defect distributions in tantalum under irradiation by means of the Marlowe code based on the binary collision approximation. The study is carried out by simulating displacement cascades initiated with primary knock-on atom energies ranging from 5 to 20 keV. The Molière, Born-Mayer and average modified Lenz-Jensen potentials are used to describe the interactions between tantalum atoms. We have examined the creation of damage, the spatial defects distribution, and the vacancy clustering in tantalum. The results show that with an appropriate recombination radius, less than 16% of the created defects constitute permanent Frenkel pairs. Spatial configuration of defects indicates a separation between the two point defect types, vacancies and interstitials. The Molière potential favors the production of a greater number of displaced atoms and the development of voluminous cascades more than the other potentials. The cascade volume distributions deviate clearly from a Gaussian distribution. They are large and very stretched toward higher volumes for all used potentials. Only small vacancy clusters are formed in tantalum under irradiation and about 41% of the produced vacancies are considered as isolated

Opis:
Ludwigia palustris has always been a very rare species in Central Europe. In Slovakia, its occurrence remained unconfirmed for over 60 years and it was therefore considered extinct. The paper reports its rediscovery on two sites in SE Slovakia. Both localities were found in the Latorica River catchment area in 2015 when persistent summer droughts enabled the development of natural mudflat vegetation in the dried oxbows. Confirmation of this historic site indicates the long-term survival ability of the species. We assigned L. palustris dominated vegetation in the class Isoëto-Nanojuncetea, association Ludwigio palustris-Lindernietum procumbentis. This association is new to Slovakia as well as for Central Europe. The stands of this association developed on the exposed muddy shores of disconnected oxbow lake.
