Opis:
One of the basic stages of mining operations is development work. During them there can occur the events that affect the process of development work as well as the safety of workers. This article conducts a process risk assessment using the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method to identify events that disrupt the development work process, along with the causes of the occurrence of these events. The study covered the process of development work i.e. the execution of the M-2 roadway in seam 502/1 realized at a depth of about 550 m with an assumed length of about 500 m. As a result of the study, those risks for which countermeasures should be applied were identified, and measures were proposed to minimize the risks involved. As part of the research, an FMEA evaluation form was created to assess process risks in the execution of similar work. The highest process risk was identified for the drivage of the excavation with a road header, and is related to the possibility of frequent failure of hydraulic systems. Similar process risk results were obtained for the risk associated with improper execution of mining with explosives and the need to perform additional blasting work in the excavated roadway. The results can contribute to reducing the time of coal face stoppage during development work, and thus improve the process of them and reduce the costs incurred during this process.

Opis:
Development and implementation of a new product in the form of a lightweight screed with high impact sound reduction require a lot of measurements of different aggregates of lightweight elements and filling. The manufacturing process influences the final parameters of the solutions as well. This is why a method was developed, that allowed a comparison of many different samples within one measurement session. The measured samples must therefore be small and easy to move. In the paper, various possibilities of impact sound reduction measurements were analyzed being different variants of the normative methods and those existing in the literature on the subject. Based on the obtained results, it was shown that for lightweight floor screeds, sound pressure level measurement is more reliable than vibration acceleration measurements. The top vinyl layer used between the tapping machine and the sample did not influence the results significantly and protected the sample from being distorted by the tapping machine hammers.

Opis:
Increasing users’ requirements force to provide better and better solutions for reducing impact sounds. A lightweight floor screed can be a favorable solution for existing buildings with limited ceiling load capacity, where typical highly effective floating floors are too heavy to be used. In the paper further development of the impact sound reduction measurement method for small lightweight floor screed samples is presented. In order to protect the top layer of the sample from the hammers of the tapping machine, a thin concrete layer was coupled with the sample. What is more, a thin layer of sand below the sample was tested in order to improve the connection between the sample and the concrete floor. Based on obtained results, the concrete top layer and the sand bottom layer reduce slightly the effectiveness of the screed but decrease the uncertainty of the results significantly.

Opis:
People have been trying to send space vehicles to Mars since the early 1960s to explore the surface of this planet. One of the most important missions in discovering Mars was the Viking mission of 1975, which provided a lot of information shaping knowledge about the red planet at the turn of the century. The idea of sending Mössbauer spectrometer to Mars appeared due to the prevalence of iron in the planet's surfce and due to the specific properties of Mössbauer spectroscopy. Our paper describes the Warsaw project to send a Mössbauer spectrometer (MARMOS) to Mars and the project suggested by scientists from Mainz University (MIMOS II). A special Mössbauer spectrometer was constructed for the MER mission by West European Team. The paper presents the possibilities of using a miniaturized Mössbauer spectrometer for the investigation of archeological artefacts. The Mössbauer spectra obtained on the surface of Mars were discussed. The Mössbauer spectra obtained on the surface of Mars were discussed. The Mössbauer spectra measured on Mars are characterized by three doublets and one or two magnetic sextets. The spectra consist of a Fe3+ doublet (assigned to nanophase ferric oxide), two Fe2+ doublets (assigned to olivine and pyroxen) and two sextets (assigned to nonstoichiometric magnetite) or one sextet (assigned to a hematite-like phase).

Opis:
Recognizing faces under various lighting conditions is a challenging problem in artificial intelligence and applications. In this paper we describe a new face recognition algorithm which is invariant to illumination. We first convert image files to the logarithm domain and then we implement them using the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) which yields images approximately invariant to changes in illumination change. We classify the images by the collaborative representation-based classifier (CRC). We also perform the following sub-band transformations: (i) we set the approximation sub-band to zero if the noise standard deviation is greater than 5; (ii) we then threshold the two highest frequency wavelet sub-bands using bivariate wavelet shrinkage. (iii) otherwise, we set these two highest frequency wavelet sub-bands to zero. On obtained images we perform the inverse DTCWT which results in illumination invariant face images. The proposed method is strongly robust to Gaussian white noise. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms several existing methods on the Extended Yale Face Database B and the CMU-PIE face database.

Quick Response Manufacturing

Opis:
The market of consumer goods requires nowadays quick response to customer needs. As a consequence, this is transferred to the time restrictions that the semi-finished product manufacturer must meet. Therefore the cost of manufacturing cannot determine how production processes are designed, and the main evaluation function of manufacturing processes is the response time to customers’ orders. One of the ideas for implementing this idea is the QRM (Quick Response Manufacturing) production organization system. The purpose of the research undertaken by the authors was to develop an innovative solution in the field of production structure, allowing for the implementation of the QRM concept in a Contract Manufacturer, which realizes its tasks according to engineering-to-order (ETO) system in conditions defined as High Mix, Low Volume, High Complexity. The object of the research was to select appropriate methods for grouping products assuming that certain operations will be carried out in traditional but well-organized technological and/or linear cells. The research was carried out in one of the largest producers of sheet metal components in Europe. Pre-completed groupings for data obtained from the company had indicated that – among the classical methods – the best results had been given by the following methods: King’s Algorithm (otherwise called: Binary Ordering, Rank Order Clustering), k-means, and Kohonen’s neural networks. The results of the tests and preliminary simulations based on the data from the company proved that the implementation of the QRM concept does not have to be associated with the absolute formation of multi-purpose cells. It turned out that the effect of reducing the response time to customer needs can be obtained by using hybrid structures that combine solutions characteristic of cellular systems with traditional systems such as a technological, linear, or mixed structure. However, this requires the application of technological solutions with the highest level of organization.

Opis:
Scheduling buses in public transport systems consists in assigning trips to vehicle blocks. To minimize the cost of fuel and environmental impact of public transport, the number of vehicle blocks used should be as small as possible, but sufficient to cover all trips in a timetable. However, when solving real life transportation problems, it is difficult to decide whether the number of vehicle blocks obtained from an algorithm is minimal, unless the actual minimal number is already known, which is rare, or the theoretical lower bound on the number of vehicles has been determined. The lower bound on the number of vehicle blocks is even more important and useful since it can be used both as a parameter that controls the optimization process and as the minimum expected value of the respective optimization criterion. Therefore, methods for determining the lower bound in transportation optimization problems have been studied for decades. However, the existing methods for determining the lower bound on the number of vehicle blocks are very limited and do not take multiple depots or heterogeneous fleet of vehicles into account. In this research, we propose a new practical and effective method to assess the lower bound on the number of vehicle blocks in the Multi-Depot Vehicle Scheduling Problem (MDVSP) with a mixed fleet covering electric vehicles (MDVSP-EV). The considered MDVSP-EV reflects a problem of public transport planning encountered in medium-sized cities. The experimental results obtained for a real public transport system show the great potential of the proposed method in determining the fairly strong lower bound on the number of vehicle blocks. The method can generate an estimated distribution of the number of blocks during the day, which may be helpful, for example, in planning duties and crew scheduling. An important advantage of the proposed method is its low calculation time, which is very important when solving real life transportation problems.

Opis:
This paper presents the problem of public transport planning in terms of the optimal use of the available fleet of vehicles and reductions in operational costs and environmental impact. The research takes into account the large fleet of vehicles of various types that are typically found in large cities, including the increasingly widely used electric buses, many depots, and numerous limitations of urban public transport. The mathematical multi-criteria mathematical model formulated in this work considers many important criteria, including technical, economic, and environmental criteria. The preliminary results of the Mixed Integer Linear Programming solver for the proposed model on both theoretical data and real data from urban public transport show the possibility of the practical application of this solver to the transport problems of medium-sized cities with up to two depots, a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles, and up to about 1500 daily timetable trips. Further research directions have been formulated with regard to larger transport systems and new dedicated heuristic algorithms.
