Opis:
The paper describes the avifauna of the dumping site of a power station (305 ha) and of the belt of adjoining area 250-500 m wide. The dumping site is located about 2 km from the area of the Natura 2000: Middle Vistula Valley, and it borders on the Kozienice Important Bird Area to the south-east. The inventory conducted in 2008 showed that the dumping site was occupied by the most important bird species from the avifaunal viewpoint. 33-34 breeding species were recorded, including 7 from Annex I to the Council Directive on the conservation of wild birds, 2 from the Red Book of the Threatened Animals in Poland (Głowaciński 2001), and 14-15 species that valuate Areas of Special Bird Protection (Gromadzki 2004). In 2008, 15-16 species of Non-Passeriformes associated with waters nested there, and 21-22 species in 1993-2008. In total, 61-64 bird species were nesting on the dumping site and surrounding area.
W pracy scharakteryzowano awifaunę składowiska odpadów paleniskowych (305 ha) oraz terenu przyległego w pasie 250 do 500 m. Składowisko leży ok. 2 km od obszaru Natura 2000 Dolina Środkowej Wisły i graniczy od strony południowo-wschodniej z Ostoją Kozienicką. Wyniki inwentaryzacji z roku 2008 wykazały, że najcenniejsze z awifaunistycznego punktu widzenia gatunki zasiedlają teren składowiska. Stwierdzono tam 33-34 gatunki lęgowe, w tym 7 wymienionych w Załączniku I Dyrektywy Ptasiej, 2 w Polskiej Czerwonej Księdze Zwierząt (Głowaciński 2001) oraz 14-15 waloryzujących Obszary Specjalnej Ochrony Ptaków (Gromadzki 2004). W roku 2008 gniazdowało na składowisku 15-16 gatunków wodno-błotnych Non-Passeriformes, w latach 1993-2008 21-22. Łącznie wraz z analizowanym otoczeniem stwierdzono gniazdowanie 61-64 gatunków ptaków.

Praca dotyczy gospodarczych i środowiskowych aspektów wypasu dużych stad owiec, głównie rasy polskiej owcy górskiej (p.o.g.). Przyrodnicze ich uwarunkowania przedstawiono w odniesieniu do biomasy roślinnej i zwierzęcej wytwarzanej na pastwiskach karpackich. Podkreślono, że wraz z wznoszeniem się terenu n.p.m. pogarszają się warunki produkcji rolniczej i obniża naturalny potencjał produkcyjny siedlisk. Granicę stanowi strefa 500-600 m n.p.m., powyżej której wielkość produkcji roślinnej obniża się. Na podstawie średnich z wielolecia 1973-1991 sezonowych przyrostów masy ciała różnych grup produkcyjnych owiec na pastwisku, stwierdzono, że większymi przyrostami masy ciała cechują się jagnięta i jarki (8,3-9,6 kg·szt.-¹) niż owce-matki i tryki (6,3-6,8 kg·szt.-¹). Wskazano na koszarzenie jako prośrodowiskowy sposób wykorzystania pozostawianych przez zwierzęta świeżych odchodów. Podano masę odchodów w rozdzieleniu na kał i mocz, a także ich siłę nawozową, zwracając uwagę na wysoką średnią zawartość azotu: 0,95% (kał) i 1,48% (mocz). Racjonalne dawkowanie przy obsadzie co najmniej 15 szt.·ha-¹ owiec umożliwia zachowanie produkcji roślinnej na poziomie 5,0-6,0 t·ha-¹ s.m.
The paper outlines some economic and environmental aspects of grazing sheep in large flocks, particularly the sheep of Polish Mountain breed. Some natural preconditions of such shepherding were described in regard to the production of animal and plant biomass in the Carpathian pastures. It was emphasised that with a rise of altitude the terms of agricultural production deteriorate and natural productivity of the site decreases. The elevation of 500-600 m a.s.l. is a borderline above which the yielding of plants dramatically declines. The paper puts together the average values of animal weight gains per season collected for the years 1973-1991 due to specific categories of grazing sheep. It was find out that the gains characteristic of lambs and ewe hoggets (8.3-9.6 kg per head) were higher than those of adult ewes and rams (6.3-6.8 kg per head). Furthermore, the role of hurdling as the environmental friendly use of animals' excreta left on a pasture was summarized. Their weight separated for urine and faeces and their fertilizing potential was given with the emphasis put on a remarkable nitrogen content: 0.95 % (faeces) and 1.48 % (urine). It was concluded that in terms of minimum stocking rate of 15 sheep per hectare such organic fertilisation with fresh manure would only be promising. If its dosage is reasonable, plant production sustains at a level of 5.0-6.0 t DM·ha-¹.

Methodology that recently leads us to predict to an amazing accuracy the date (July 11, 2008) of reverse of the oil price up trend is briefly summarized and some further aspects of the related oil price dynamics elaborated. This methodology is based on the concept of discrete scale invariance whose finance-prediction-oriented variant involves such elements as log-periodic self-similarity, the universal preferred scaling factor λ≈2, and allows a phenomenon of the "super-bubble". From this perspective the present (as of August 22, 2008) violent - but still log-periodically decelerating - decrease of the oil prices is associated with the decay of such a "super-bubble" that has started developing about one year ago on top of the longer-term oil price increasing phase (normal bubble) whose ultimate termination is evaluated to occur in around mid 2010.

Applicability of the concept of financial log-periodicity is discussed and encouragingly verified for various phases of the world stock markets development in the period 2000-2010. In particular, a speculative forecasting scenario designed in the end of 2004, that properly predicted the world stock market increases in 2007, is updated by setting some more precise constraints on the time of duration of the present long-term equity market bullish phase. A termination of this phase is evaluated to occur in around November 2009. In particular, on the way towards this dead-line, a Spring-Summer 2008 increase is expected. On the precious metals market a forthcoming critical time signal is detected at the turn of March/April 2008 which marks a tendency for at least a serious correction to begin.

The paper presents a number of concerns related to studies of electromagnetic interference produced by renewable energy sources. Firsty, the paper describes types of interference, focusing mainly on impulse disturbances and possible impact on people and the environment. Next, the evaluation methods and measurement equipment are discussed, followed by results of measurements of interference occurring in main power circuits of wind and small hydro-electric power plants. The summary offers recommendations to improve the quality of electricity generated by renewable power sources.
W referacie przedstawiono pewne problemy dotyczące badań zaburzeń elektromagnetycznych wytwarzanych przez odnawialne źródła energii. Na wstępie omówiono rodzaje tych zaburzeń, koncentrując się głównie na zaburzeniach impulsowych oraz przedstawiono możliwe skutki ich oddziaływania dla ludzi i środowiska. Dalej omówiono metody badań zaburzeń oraz stosowane urządzenia pomiarowe. Przedstawiono również przykładowe wyniki pomiarów zaburzeń występujących w obwodach sieci energetycznej generatorów wiatrowych i generatora małej Badania zaburzeń elektromagnetycznych źródeł energii odnawialnej elektrowni wodnej. W podsumowaniu wskazano kierunki dalszych działań dla poprawy jakości energii elektrycznej wytwarzanej przez źródła odnawialne.

A modification of Yasutomi's agent-based model of the commodity market is investigated. It is argued that introduced modification of the microscopic exchange rules allows for emergence of commodity exchange rates in the model. Accuracy of the box-counting algorithm for numerical computation of the fractal exponents is investigated. To this end several sample mathematical fractal sets are analyzed. It is shown that the standard deviation obtained for the fit of the fractal scaling in the log-log plot strongly underestimates the actual error. The real computational error was found to have power scaling with respect to the number of data points in the sample $(n_{tot})$. For fractals embedded in two-dimensional space the error is larger than for those embedded in one-dimensional space. For fractal functions the error is even larger. Obtained formula can give more realistic estimates for the computed generalized fractal exponents' accuracy.

Correlation matrices of foreign exchange rate time series are investigated for 60 world currencies. Minimal spanning tree graphs for the gold, silver and platinum are presented. Inverse power like scaling is discussed for these graphs as well as for four distinct currency groups (major, liquid, less liquid and non-tradable). The worst scaling was found for USD and related currencies.

The agent-based computational economic (ACE) model with one free parameter (Thresh) proposed by Yasutomi is analyzed in details. We have found that for a narrow range of the parameter, in the money emergence phase, the money lifetime is finite and the "money switching" effect can be observed for long enough time evolution. Long periods of stability are followed by shorter periods with much shorter money lifetimes. Distributions of the money switching points have been found to have non-Cantor distribution on the time axis, i.e. the Rényi exponents determined by the box-counting algorithm equal 1.0 with high accuracy.

We decompose the exchange rates returns of 38 currencies (including gold) into their sign and amplitude components. Then we group together all exchange rates with a common base currency, construct Minimal Spanning Trees for each group independently, and analyze properties of these trees. We show that both the sign and the amplitude time series have similar correlation properties as far as the core network structure is concerned. There exist however interesting peripheral differences that may open a new perspective to view the Forex dynamics.

W artykule dokonano oceny ergonomiczno-ekspolatacyjnej wybranych samochodów ciężarowych wykorzystywanych w rodzinnej firmie transportowej. Uwzględniony został przedział mocy od 206 KW do 397 KW. Zakres pracy obejmował analizę teoretyczno–praktyczną badanych samochodów ciężarowych z uwzględnieniem nowoczesnych rozwiązań technicznych przekładających się na komfort i bezpieczeństwo pracy kierowcy zawodowego. Ponadto przeprowadzona została ocena ergonomiczna, dotycząca geometrii stanowiska pracy kierowcy oraz trudności obsługi urządzeń i stopnia skomplikowania urządzeń sygnalizacyjnych. Z przeprowadzonej analizy wynika, że najlepszym z badanej grupy samochodów ciężarowym w obrębie właściwości eksploatacyjno–ergonomicznych jest DAF XF105.460 oraz Volvo FH16.540.
The aim was operational and - ergonomic assessment truck used in the family business to carry freight transport on short and long-haul routes. Included is a power range from 206 kW to 397 kW. The scope of work included analysis of theoretical - practical surveyed trucks including modern technical solutions translate into comfort and safety professional driver. In addition, the ergonomic assessment has been carried out concerning the geometry of the job of the driver and the difficulties operating and the complexity of the signaling equipment. The analysis shows that the best truck taking into account the operational and performance - ergonomic is XF105.460 DAF and Volvo FH16.540.

The new Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS)-based method has been developed for taking into account, in an approximate manner, the effect of external acoustic forcing on laminar-to-turbulent transition in a separated boundary layer. Experimental studies [33] report an increase of the turbulent shear stress within the separated boundary layer under the influence of acoustic forcing. Enhancement of flow disturbances in a reversed flow region was also reported in our experiment. Experimental findings stimulated the development of a reduced-order aero-acoustic strategy. The effect of acoustic forcing was incorporated into the modelling framework of an algebraic intermittency model. The model component was tuned based on our experimental data and validated on reference experiments. The results show the feasibility of the proposed model to simulate flow over a flat plate and the NACA0018 profile.
