    This study aimed to determine the effects of Turkey-sourced pumpkin seed oil (PSO), administered orally to rats in different dosages, to research its anti-inflammatory effect in rat oedema model, induced by carrageenan, based on different dosages, and to evaluate its effects comparatively with indomethacin. The study was conducted on 42 rats in total, divided into 7 groups (control, carr, PSO40, PSO100, PSO40+carr, PSO100+carr and indo+carr). In the study, doses of 40 and 100 mg/kg of PSO were found to significantly suppress rat paw oedema in time, and it was observed that this effect was more pronounced in the fourth hour. It was found that MDA and cytokine (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β) levels were inhibited, and GPX and SOD activities were enhanced in groups that received PSO and indo+carr groups. Histopathological examinations also support these findings. As a result of the study, the significant anti-inflammatory effect of Turkey-sourced PSO was attributed to the existence of unsaturated fatty acids and enriched phytochemical compounds.

    High carbonate content in soil negatively affect plant growth, because the availability of nutrients is restricted due to high pH. The present investigations were carried out to reveal possible alleviating effects of the exogenous root inoculation PGPRs on development and physiology of soilless-grown grapevines cultivated under alkaline stress in controlled glass house. pH of growth medium was increased from 7.5 to the values ranging from 7.9 (control) to 8.1 (A18) according to the bacterial inoculations by NaHCO3 supplementations. Bacteria inoculations did not result in statistically significant differences in pH values of growth media. The bacterial population density found in the rhizosphere of grapevines ranged from 6 × 108 CFU mL−1 (M-3) to 9 × 108 CFU mL−1 (Ca-637). The highest value of shoot thickness was obtained from Ca-637 (5.3 mm), followed by A18 (5.2 mm), while M3 did not significantly affected the shoot thickness. The greatest pruning residue per vine was obtained from A18 treatment (81.5 g), followed by Ca-637 (80.8 g) while the lowest value was determined in control. Vine yield was the greatest with A18 (1128 g) treatment and was followed by Ca 637 (1059 g). Considering the general observations, root inoculation of PGPRs A18 and Ca-637 may be recommended in enhancing bioremediation of alkali growth media.

    Objectives: The aim of this 7-year follow-up study was to determine respiratory changes in dental technicians. Material and Methods: In our region, in the year 2005, 36 dental technicians were evaluated with a cross-sectional study on respiratory occupational diseases, and in 2012 we evaluated them again. Inclusion of information on respiratory symptoms and demographic features questionnaires was applied. Pulmonary function tests (PFT) were performed. Chest X-rays (CXR) were evaluated according to the ILO-2000 classification. For the comparisons of the technicians' findings in 2005 and 2012, data analyses were performed with the Wilcoxon test in addition to descriptive statistical procedures. Results: In 2012, 19 out of the 36 technicians continued to work in the same place, so we were able to evaluate their findings. The prevalence of respiratory symptoms in dental technician was as follows: dyspnea 7 (37%), cough 6 (32%), and phlegm 5 (26%). According to ILO classifications in 2005, among the 36 technicians, 5 (13.8%) had pneumoconiosis. At the end of 7 years, there were 9 pneumoconiosis cases among the 19 remaining technicians (47%). Thus, there was a statistically significant progression on the profusion of the radiologic findings (p < 0.005). Also there was a significant worsening on spirometric findings (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In dental technicians, a determination of both radiologic and functional progressions at the end of 7 years demonstrate that the primary and secondary preventive measures are necessary for these workplaces. Workplaces must be regularly controlled for worker health and hygiene.

    The role of fungi in the treatment of wastewater has been extensively researched. Many genera of fungi have been employed for the dye decolourization either in living or dead form. In this study, the removal of an acidic dye, Indigo Carmine (IC), from an aqueous solution by biosorption on dead fungus, Pleurotus ostreatus, was investigated. The effects of contact time, initial dye concentration, amount of dead biomass, agitation rate and initial pH on dye removal have been determined. Experimental results show that an increase in the amount of dead biomass positively affected the dye removal. The highest removal was obtained at 150–200 rpm. Slightly lower removing activities were found at lower agitation rates. The dye adsorption effi ciency was not affected by pH except minor variation in the pH of 2–8. Color removal was observed to occur rapidly within 60 minutes. The removal of dye by dead biomass of P. ostreatus was clearly dependent on the initial dye concentration of the solution. Dye removal was reduced from 93% to 64% as concentration was increased from 50 to 500 mg/L Indigo Carmine. This study showed that it was possible to remove textile dyes by dead biomass of P. ostreatus.

    The total X-ray attenuation coefficients in elements Zr, Ag, and In for K$\text{}_{α}$ and K$\text{}_{β}$ characteristic lines of elements with different Z (33 ≤ Z ≤ 92) were estimated by measuring attenuation in transmission method. The intensity of K X-rays was monitored by a Ge(Li) detector with energy resolution 190 eV at 5.9 keV. The experimentally measured attenuation coefficients were found in good agreement with the theoretical values of attenuation coefficients calculated by Storm, Israel and Hubbell, Seltzer.
