Opis:
This study was conducted in Çanakkale Province, Bayramiç County between 2011 and 2013. The aim of this study was to determine the best rootstock × genotype combination by grafting 14 standard and local sweet cherry genotypes cultivated in Amasya Province on Mazzard, Gisela 5 and Gisela 6 rootstocks with T-budding method. Graftings were conducted on August 15th in both years. Following the grafting, the average daily temperature and relative humidity values in addition to bud sprout ratios and graft shoot lengths and diameters were examined. The experiment location was suitable for fall T-budding based on obtained climate data. The results of research showed that cherry genotypes and rootstocks had significant effects on bud sprout ratio. The best bud sprout rates among the sweet cherry genotypes and rootstocks were obtained from ‘Kargayüreği’ genotype (100%) and Gisela 6 rootstock (91.4 and 94.5%, respectively) in both year. Graft shoot lengths and diameters showed differences depending on genotypes and rootstocks. Among the sweet cherry genotypes and rootstocks, the best graft shoot length were obtained from ’Kargayüreği’ genotype and Gisela 5 rootstock in both year. The highest graft shoot diameter values among the sweet cherry genotypes and rootstocks were obtained from ‘Bing’ genotype and Gisela 5 rootstock in both years. As a result, it was shown that the 14 sweet cherry genotypes cultivated in Amasya can be successfully grafted on Mazzard, Gisela 5 and Gisela 6 cherry rootstocks and that 1st and 2nd class sweet cherry saplings can be produced.

Opis:
In this study, tungsten-vanadium carbide-graphite and tungsten-vanadium carbide-titanium carbide-graphite composites (W-VC-TiC-C) which can be used in high-tech equipment were investigated against different gamma radioisotopes. The composite materials were produced via mechanical alloying method in two groups; one of them includes 93% tungsten (W), 6% vanadium carbide (VC) and 1% graphite (C) which was synthesized during three different alloying times (6, 12, 24 hours). Other group of the samples were composited as 91% tungsten, 6% vanadium carbide (VC), 2% titanium carbide (TiC) and 1% graphite (C) which has also three different alloying times (6, 12, 24 hours). Gamma transmission technique was used in the experiments to investigate the gamma attenuation properties of the composite materials. Linear and mass attenuation coefficients of the samples were determined in the experiments and theoretical mass attenuation coefficients were calculated using widely acknowledged XCOM computer code. The experimental mass attenuation coefficients and calculated theoretical results were compared and evaluated with each other. Results showed that gamma attenuation coefficients of the composite materials dependent on alloying time. It can be concluded that increasing the tungsten ratio causes higher linear attenuation coefficient which decreases with increasing gamma energies.

Opis:
Agricultural wastes have increased with the intensive production in recent years. These wastes that affect the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils should be composted and added to soil. In this study, composts were consisted of different agricultural wastes such as greenhouse wastes-GPW, used cocopeat wastes-UCW, spent mushroom composts-SMC and at different ratios. Used cocopeat wastes were especially chosen in this experiment because it was not preferred in compost mixtures up to the present. Five different compost mixtures were added to the soil and their effects on growth and nutrient contents of lettuce plants were determined. The experiment was carried out during two successive seasons (autumn and spring). The results showed that plant growth and yield were found higher in the compost applications than in control. Generally the highest values were obtained from M1 application (80% GPW + 10% UCW + 10% SMC) for many parameters.

Opis:
Aluminium-boride composites ($Al-AlB_2$) having two different volume fractions of reinforcing ($AlB_2$), namely 4.0 and 10.0 per cent have been produced through synthesizing boron by reaction of boron oxide ($B_2O_3$) with liquid aluminium. Friction and wear characteristic of the composites have been investigated under dry sliding condition and results compared with pure aluminium. The wear rate increases with normal load and sliding speed and is significantly lower with the composites when compared to that of monolithic material. The coefficient of friction increased with increasing volume fraction of $AlB_2$ reinforcement phase. The wear rate, however, decreased with increasing volume fraction of $AlB_2$.

Opis:
Pistachio processing wastewater was characterized and the treatability of wastewater using Fenton’s process, the combination of Fenton’s process with ultrasonic irradiation and coagulation processes was investigated. [Fe2+] = 27.6 mg/dm3, [H2O,sub>2]= 30 mg/dm3 and 75 min of reaction time were determined as the optimum conditions for Fenton’s process. Then, the combined treatment (ultrasound with Fenton’s process, was applied to the pistachio processing wastewater and 45% of COD removal efficiency was obtained. For the coagulation process, the optimum removal efficiencies of 60% and 45% were achieved for FeCl3 dosage of 2000 mg/dm3 and Al2(SO4)3 dosage of 3000 mg/dm3, respectively. The results demonstrate that higher COD removal efficiencies could be obtained from the combined ultrasound and Fenton’s process with respect to Fenton’s process alone. Besides, applying the coagulation process using FeCl3and Al2(SO4)3 also presents high COD removal efficiencies.

Opis:
In this study, tungsten-vanadium carbide-graphite (W-VC-C) and tungsten-vanadium carbide-titanium carbide-graphite composite (W-VC-TiC-C) materials were investigated against Co-60 gamma radioisotope. The composite materials which are used in advanced technological studies and high temperature applications in many various fields especially in the areas of fission and fusion armor materials were produced by mechanical alloying method as in two groups. One of them include 93% tungsten (W), 6% vanadium carbide (VC) and 1% graphite (C) also which has three different alloying times (6-12-24 h). Other group of the samples was composed of 91% tungsten, 6% vanadium carbide (VC), 2% titanium carbide (TiC) and 1% graphite (C) also which has three different alloying times (6-12-24 h) and sintered at 1750°C. Co-60 gamma radioisotope source and gamma transmission technique were used in the experiments to investigate the properties of the composite materials. The mass attenuation coefficients of the samples were determined by using experimental results and theoretical mass attenuation coefficients were calculated from XCOM computer code. It can be concluded that increasing the tungsten ratio causes higher mass attenuation coefficient and the composite materials have provided us benefits better than lead for radiation gamma shielding.
