Opis:
The present analysis discusses the solute transport process in a steady 2D (axial and radial) laminar flow of blood through a permeable, finite length capillary. Blood is treated as a homogeneous Newtonian fluid and the solute is absorbed at the capillary wall with a linear irreversible reaction rate. The velocity profile is obtained by a regular perturbation technique, whereas the transport coefficients depicted by the Gill generalized dispersion model are solved numerically. A number of different scenarios are considered, namely transport with no-reaction, weak absorption, strong absorption, low filtration or high filtration, etc. In the initial stages, the temporal behaviour of the dispersion coefficient is identical to those cases when there is no radial velocity. For the combined effect of radial and axial velocities, however, the dispersion coefficient is lower for a high absorption rate than for a weak absorption rate. Diffusion is accelerated with higher values of filtration coefficient. Owing to the opposite effects of radial diffusion and radial velocity, the solute particles require more time to reach the steady state. The analysis finds applications in, for example, reactive nutrient and pharmacological transport in capillary hemodynamics.

Opis:
The past few decades have witnessed a tremendous increase in the consumption of antibiotics worldwide. This rampant and unregulated use of antibiotics and their improper disposal has led to the accumulation of these drugs in the environment. This in turn has led to the emergence of antibiotic resistance in microbes and has become one of the most pressing global concerns in medicine, with highly resistant pathogens of many species proving difficult to treat. The aim of the study was to synthesise silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using white rot fungus, Pleurotus ostreatus and assess its potential to carry out photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin. UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope have been used to characterize biosynthesized Ag-NPs. The photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin in aqueous solution by Ag-NPs was evaluated under natural sunlight. The effect of the operating conditions (contact time, Ag-NP concentration and initial ampicillin concentration) on the photocatalytic degradation was also investigated. The highest ampicillin degradation of 96.5% was observed after exposure of the solution (antibiotic + nanoparticles) for 4 h in sunlight. The maximum degradation was observed at an Ag-NP concentration of 5 ppm at pH 6. To the best of our knowledge, photocatalytic degradation of ampicillin using Ag-NPs synthesised by P. ostreatus has not been reported earlier.

Bound state solutions of the Dirac equation for the pseudoharmonic potential with spin and pseudo-spin symmetry are studied in this paper. To obtain the exactly normalized bound state wave function and energy expressions we have used the Laplace transform approach.

Opis:
The process of stress accumulation near earthquake faults during the aseismic period in between two major seismic events in seismically active regions has become a subject of research during the last few decades. In the present paper a long dip -slip fault is taken to be situated in a viscoelastic layer over a viscoelastic half space representing the lithosphere-asthenosphere system. A movement of the dip-slip nature across the fault occurs when the accumulated stress due to various tectonic reasons, e.g., mantle convection etc., exceeds the local friction and cohesive forces across the fault. The movement is assumed to be slipping in nature, expressions for displacements, stresses and strains are obtained by solving the associated boundary value problem with the help of integral transformation and Green's function method. A detailed study of these expressions may give some ideas about the nature of stress accumulation in the system, which in turn will be helpful in formulating an earthquake prediction programme.
