Podano też zarys klasyfikacji manipulatorów w funkcji realizowanych przez nie zadania.
    The article presents the general construction of an underwater vehicle manipulator along with a discussion of the materials used in their construction. The types of drive systems used by the manipulator have been characterised, distinguishing their advantages and disadvantages. The functions of the manipulator are specified in relation to the activities performed by it. Moreover, the paper discusses the manipulator's degrees of freedom with the specification of the formula for their calculation. The basic types of end effectors are presented as well as an outline of the classification of manipulators in relation to the tasks carried out.

Przedstawione zadania zrealizowano podczas prac podwodnych z okrętu ratowniczego na wraku kutra rybackiego WŁA-127.     The article demonstrates use of underwater remotely operated vehicles during an underwater visual inspection of a sunken vessel. The presented tasks were carried out in the course of underwater works performed from a Polish navy rescue vessel on the fishing boat WŁA-127. The discussed examples include a visual inspection of the sunken vessel and the support offered to Polish Navy rescue divers as they carried out underwater works.

    Stem canker of brassicas is a severe disease of oilseed rape in Australia, Canada and Europe, including Poland. The disease is caused by Leptosphaeria maculans and L. biglobosa - two pathogens belonging to the class Dothideomycetes. The species differ in pathogenicity, but they have identical shape and size of fruiting bodies and spores of the generative and vegetative stages. Both pathogens are often found together in infected tissues of oilseed rape plants. The main goal of the experiments was to measure the rate of pseudothecial maturation and to monitor ascospore concentration of L. maculans and L. biglobosa in air samples. The paper is the first investigation on the generative stage development of these two species in south-east Poland. The studies were done for three consecutive years (2005-2007), for six most important months in pathogen development and plant infection, including 3 months in the spring (March – May) and 3 months in the autumn (September – November). The stage of pseudothecial maturation was assessed visually, based on the development of asci and ascospores. Monitoring of spore concentration in the air was performed using a Hirst-type 7-day volumetric trap. It was proved that differences in pseudothecial maturation rate in south-east Poland, encompassing the climatic regions of the Carpathian Foothills and Cracow, do not exceed two weeks within one season. The first and the highest ascospore concentration dates depended on weather conditions in a particular season. The total number of spores during the studied seasons varied from 9 to12 spores/m3, which was from 70 to 90 times lower than the average from five other monitoring sites around Poland. The short exposition to spore showers and very small concentrations of L. maculans and L. biglobosa ascospores in air samples were the most probable reasons for relatively small damage of oilseed rape crops by stem canker in the south-east part of Poland.

    In patients with dyspeptic symptoms who have been treated for gastric cancer, other medical conditions apart from cancer recurrence should be considered. A long small-bowel loop left after esophagogastric anastomosis, flaccid diaphragmatic crura, and several external factors such as hard physical exertion can promote the development of postoperative hiatus hernia. The authors of this paper present a rare case of hiatus hernia considered a late complication of primary surgery performed due to gastric cancer. The 63-year-old patient had undergone total gastrectomy with double tract reconstruction (DTR) six years earlier. Gastrectomy was performed with extended lymphadenectomy (>D2). Histopathologic examination of tumor specimens showed mucinous adenocarcinoma with no lymph node metastasis and no distant metastases (pathologic staging: pT2, pN0, pM0). After six years, the patient was admitted to the 2nd Department of General and Gastroenterologic Surgery with abdominal pains, malaise, weight loss and feeling of fullness after small meals. Diagnostic procedures performed showed the presence of hiatus hernia, a very rare complication after this particular surgery, with no features of cancer recurrence. The patient was underwent surgery and the hernia was successfully repaired.

    The article presents the changes in the preferences of people vacationing in the forests of the Mazowiecki Landscape Park (MPK) in the years 2000−2012. The study covered the preferences for the frequency and duration of rest in the forest and the places and forms of recreation carried out in the MPK forests. These preferences were established on the basis of surveys conducted in the field. In 2000, a questionnaire was sent to 755 people vacationing in the MPK forests. In 2012, the survey covered 390 people vacationing within the MPK. In both cases, the survey involved people over 18 years of age. Preferences of respondents in both studies were compared using the chi−square independence test. The results showed that within twelve years the preferences of respondents in the frequency range of leisure, choice of the place and forms of recreation changed significantly. There was an increase in the number of respondents frequently utilising the MPK forests for recreation and leisure interested in areas equipped with appropriate recreational infrastructure. The share of respondents making such recreational activities in forests as horse riding, cycling and observing nature significantly increased, while the preferences for the duration of rest in the forest have not changed. Still, the MPK forests are primarily a place of the weekend rest. The results indicate that the preferences of recreational users of the forest are largely related to the scope of access to and management of the forest.

    Gallbladder cancer is a relatively rare cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, most commonly detected (approximately 95% of cases) in the most advanced clinical stage IV and burdened with high mortality rate. This is mainly due to the nonspecific symptoms in the early stages of the disease. The remaining cases of gallbladder cancer are usually detected after surgery due to gallstone disease. Gallstones, their size and pancreatic juice reflux into the gallbladder are risk factors in the development of gallbladder cancer. In this paper the authors carried out a retrospective research based on an evaluation of a group of 38 patients treated surgically due to the gallbladder cancer in the years 2005-2012 in the Second Department of General and Gastroenterological Surgery in Białystok Medical University Hospital. In this group there were 29 women and 9 men, in age between 48-86 years. Although women suffered from gallbladder cancer more often than men, their survival rate was significantly better after the surgery. The research showed some benefits of extended surgical procedures even in patients with advanced stages of the disease, while the effectiveness of surgical treatment depends mainly on the possibility of radical resection of the primary lesion and, eventually, the resection of lymph nodes and other infiltrated tissues.

    Introduction: Despite the progress in gaining knowledge about carcinogenesis, it is still unclear what processes are directly responsible for the differentiation of gastric cancer into its intestinal or diffuse form. Dividing of these two forms is based on one of the oldest, yet still commonly used classifications – the classification of Lauren. There are many factors that may influence the formation of gastric tumors of various aggressiveness. Purpose: To evaluate the expression of proteins: fragile histidine triad (FHIT), E-cadherin, α-catenin, γ-catenin, cathepsin B, epidermal growth factor (EGF), HER-2, MMP-9, MCM-2, Bak, Bax, BID, Bcl-XL, p53, FasL, Bcl-2, caspase-8, procaspase-3 in gastric cancer cells, depending on the type of tumor by Lauren classification. Materials and methods: Study group consisted of 91 patients treated surgically for gastric cancer in the Second Department of General and Gastroenterological Surgery, Medical University of Bialystok in years between 2000 and 2006. Results: It is shown, that the expression of E-cadherin was significantly higher in the Lauren I gastric cancer cells than in Lauren II. In case of caspase-8 there has been significantly less frequent expression of this protein in Lauren I gastric cancer cells compared to Lauren II. The authors describe no statistically significant differences in the expression of other proteins taken into consideration. Conclusions: These results suggest the role of adhesion and apoptosis-related proteins in the development of two different types of gastric cancer according to Lauren’s classification.
