Opis:
In today´s competitive global markets, selection of a potential supplier plays an important role to cut production costs as well as material costs of the company. This leads to successful survival and sustainability in a competitive marketplace. Therefore, evaluation and selection of an appropriate supplier has become an important part of supply chain management. The nature of the supplier selection process is a complex multi-attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problem which deals with both quantitative and qualitative factors may be conflicting in nature as well as contain incomplete and uncertain information. In order to solve such a kind of MAGDM problems, the development of an effective supplier selection model is evidently desirable. In this paper, an application of the VIKOR method combined with fuzzy logic has been used to solve supplier selection problems with conflicting and non-commensurable (different units) criteria, assuming that compromising is acceptable for conflict resolution. The decision maker wants a solution, which must be closest to the ideal, and the alternatives are evaluated according to all established criteria. Linguistic values are used to assess the ratings and weights for the conflicting factors. These linguistic ratings can be expressed in triangular fuzzy numbers. Then, a hierarchy MAGDM model based on fuzzy sets theory and the VIKOR method has been proposed to deal with the supplier selection problems in the supply chain system. A case study has been illustrated as an application of the proposed model.

Opis:
This paper presents a multi-objective extended optimization methodology applied in the machining of a randomly oriented GFRP rod. Design of Experiment (DOE) has been selected based on a L9 orthogonal array design with varying process control parameters like: spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut. Multiple surface roughness parameters of the machined FRP product along with the Material Removal Rate (MRR) of the machining process have been optimized simultaneously. The Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) has been proposed for providing feasible means for the meaningful aggregation of multiple objective unctions into an equivalent single performance index (MPCI). This Multi-Performance Characteristic Index (MPCI) has been optimized using the Taguchi method. The approach adapted here is capable of overcoming limitations/assumptions of existing optimization methodologies available in the literature.

The compounds 5-pentyl-2-(4'-cyanophenyl) pyrimidine [CM 7035] and 4-n-butyl-4'-ethoxytolan [PTP4O2] and mixtures of different mole fractions of them show nematic phase with supercooling effect. From the phase diagram the equimolar mixture is found to be the eutectic mixture. Temperature variation of the density and refractive indices ($n_{o}$, $n_{e}$) of the pure compounds and their eutectic mixture have been reported here. The density and birefringence values of the eutectic mixture are found to be less than that of pure compounds. However the average refractive index values of eutectic mixture almost coincide with those of CM 7035 which are much less than those of PTP4O2. The refractive indices and density values have been analyzed to obtain the orientational order parameters. Experimental order parameter values of the pure compounds and the eutectic mixture are compared with theoretical Maier-Saupe values. The possible reasons for disagreement between theoretical and experimental values for the pure compounds are discussed. The agreement between theoretical and experimental order parameters are fairly good for the eutectic mixture.

Opis:
Plant glutathione peroxidases are an important class of enzymes which play key roles in the stress adaptability of plants both in context of biotic and abiotic stress pathways. They have been over the years much studied in animals since the catalytic residues are comprised of selenocysteine a variant amino acid which is ribosomally encoded with the help of an RNA structural element known as SECIS. Various workers over the years have shown that plant glutathione peroxidases play active roles in ROS sequestration, lipid hydroperoxidation as well as regulate glutathione levels. However, each plant has various patterns of glutathione peroxidase expression and action and in some plants certain isoforms have not been detected at all. This work focuses on the prediction and identification of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and INDELs in the coding regions of plant glutathione peroxidases, with the help of a Bayesian based algorithm subsequently validated. A large number of informative sites were detected 279 of which had variant frequency of ≥ 50 %. This data should be beneficial for future studies involving genetic manipulation and population based breeding experiments.

A Green function method is developed for estimation of lattice parameter r(χ) of an AX-BX solid solution over entire composition range (χ=0 to 1). The r(χ) obtained in the present method is different from the value r$\text{}_{V}$(χ) suggested by Vegard's law. We estimated the deviation from Vegard's law, r(χ)-r$\text{}_{V}$(χ), over entire composition range for isovalent substitutional defect in alkali halide crystals. When compared to X-ray diffraction measurements, we find that the deviation is in correct direction, variation of r(χ) with χ is consistent with experiment and the overall agreement is fairly good considering the accuracy of the experiment.

Opis:
Incomplete reduction of oxygen molecules is the primary source for the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during cytosolic metabolism or mitochondrial respiration. These phenomenons may be as a result of biotic or abiotic stress. Exposure to exogenous stimuli such as radiation might be an alternative pathway of ROS production. Thus plants require counter defense strategies to combat the increase of this toxic molecular build up in its cell cytoplasm. As a result they have devised an army of free radical scavenging enzymes which enable them to dissipate the oxidative stress imposed by the accumulation of these toxic moieties. Glutathione Peroxidase forms an important part of this arms race along with several catalases and organelle specific enzymes such as superoxide dismutase. Plant glutathione peroxidases(GPXs) have been studied exclusively for their evolutionary lineages since they represent a hybrid class of molecules in context of the presence and absence of selenocysteine at their catalytic centres, the former situation predominant in non vascular plant groups while the later a predominant feature of vascular plants. This analysis focuses on three important aspects of protein structure analyses – hydrophobic cluster analyses for identification of homologues, and acetylation and myristoylation sites which provide us with information regarding the post translational modifications of a particular protein group. Specific patterns of clusters along with acetylation and myristoylation site frequencies were obtained which indicate that GPXs of non vascular plant members possess less chances of getting myristoylated while acetylation was predominant in most land plant lineages but absent in aquatic members.

In this paper we calculate nearest neighbour relaxation in some dilute substitutional alloys using a lattice static Green function and the Morse potential function. Distant neighbour relaxation is calculated by invoking a continuum approximation. The potential parameters for the unlike interactions are calculated using simple interpolation formulae. Using the above relaxation, we calculate volume changes in the above alloys. It is observed that the simple model predicts values which are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental values in all cases. The calculated values are also compared with those obtained from the Vegard law. For Au-Ag alloy, our model reproduces both the correct sign and the magnitude of the volume change, whereas the Vegard law cannot even give the sign of the volume change. This shows the inherent strength of the present model.

Plant RNA interference has been a very well studied phenomenon since its discovery. We are well versed with the types of small noncoding RNAs that are prevalent in the plant systems and their pathways of biogenesis and subsequent actions. However, apart from model plant systems such as Arabidopsis and Oryza, very little information is available regarding the other members of the RNA interference machinery; specially Argonaute proteins which acts as the major stabilizing factor for execution of the interference. This work focuses on the exploration of the sequenced crop genomes available on the web using a hybrid approach of computational protein fishing and genome mining. The results indicate that this hybrid approach was successful in the identification of argonaute proteins in the crop genomes under study.

Opis:
RNA silencing is one of the important phenomenon in plant defense mechanism, it actively protect host plants against viral infections. Existing viruses must have developed counter defense strategies to survive this arms race. Such counter defense strategy is the viral silencing suppressor (VSRs) which have been reported to directly interfere with the various steps leading to the interference of viral RNAs. Most identified VSRs are multifunctional, besides being RNA-silencing suppressors, they often perform essential roles by functioning as coat proteins, helper components for viral transmission, replicases and movement proteins, proteases or transcriptional regulators. One such identified VSR is AC4 of Sri Lankan cassava mosaic virus strain. Trivial knowledge about the structure –function relationship of this VSR leads to this work, where we focus on the structure generation by modelling to identify the mode of interactions with the various effector molecules of the silencing pathways. Structural analyses have been performed to screen interacting residues. Results indicate conserved structural features which signify propensity of functional interactions and further shows that this VSR can be a potent tool for the analysis of RNA silencing mechanisms and the relationships between different silencing pathways and VSRs.

HIV-1 or Human Immuno Deficiency Virus-1 is the main causative agent of Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Human host infected with HIV - 1 extensively harbours many viral variants but very little is known about the difference in pattern[17] of evolution of phylogenetic lineages of HIV-1 non recombinant, normal inter subtype recombinant and main two specific recombinant forms of HIV-1 i.e., Circulating Recombinant Forms (CRFs) and Unique Recombinant Forms (URFs). This study is mainly concerned with study of the difference in evolutionary lineages of non-recombinant and recombinant sequences of HIV-1 genome sequences and identification of geographically rich areas which has reported high degree of HIV-1 occurrence and variety. Total 1550 HIV-1 genome sequences were obtained from HIV Los Alamos Database. The sequences were aligned using MAFFT (Multiple Alignment using Fast Fourier Transform) web server tool. Alignment was carried out using 10 different set of alignment parameter values. After alignment the aligned file was used for constructing N-J phylogenetic tree using Clustal X2 tool. Phylogenetic analysis was performed keeping in mind the category to which the sequence belongs. Upon analysis it was observed that the clade containing the probable ancestor belongs remained constant in all cases of different alignment values. Non recombinant isolates, inter subtype recombinants, CRFs, URFs all followed different patterns of evolution. Non recombinant sequences were found geographically specific and subtype specific to some extent whereas, normal recombinants were subtype specific and less geographically specific. CRFs showed variation among the pattern of their evolution. At some instances the sequences occurred as sister taxa of non-recombinant or normal inter subtype recombinant sequences, while at some instances as sister taxa of other CRFs where they were geographically specific. Three CRFs existed as completely diverged sequences. URFs were four in number; two of them were Indian isolates of while other two were Japanese isolates. URFs were found to be totally geographically specific. Geography wise high rate of variation was observed in India and Japan as these two countries had sequences belonging to all of the above categories. Cameroon and South Africa have very large number isolates and a considerable amount of genetic variation among isolates but they lack URFs.

The morphology and distribution of the local density of states of the observed films did not show any difference for the films deposited at different conditions. The distribution of the local density of states was temperature dependent. The changes in the shape of the local density of states observed at 473 K were reversible with temperature implying that no permanent change of the electronic structure occurred.
