To reduce the risk of subgrade landslides is particularly important now, because with the Polish accession to the European Union there was a need to adept existing railway infrastructure to EU standards, including the increased speed of trains. This article presents the cause of the landslide phenomena, methods of detection and study of landslides and the proper method of proceeding in the event of landslide occurence on railway lines managed by PKP PLK S.A. The article presents also a description of several subgrade landslides in Poland. It was found that in most cases the direct causes of landslides on operating railways were construction and maintenance mistakes resulting in deterioration of water run-off and increasing the load of land substructure. Rapid assessment of landslide threats in case of all operating lines is not possible. Therefore, more attention should be paid to possible preventive actions, in particular to prevent the deterioration of working conditions of the substructure, use the results of measurements of the track and DP expert system for early detection of potential threats and implement the principle of full recognition of geotechnical subgrade before modernization the line. - Źródło:
