    This article analyzes activities focused on cultural heritage resources, undertaken from a local position. The theoretical considerations refer to the example of the Koniaków lace. This handicraft, despite the changing reality, for more than 100 years has continuously been a manifestation of the region’s tradition. Local lace makers adapt their forms to new emerging needs. The educational or commercial activity concentrated around the lace makes this skill an important bonding element for the local community. The lively activity of dissemination and promotion of the Koniaków lace resulted in an entry to UNESCO’s National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017. The Koniaków lace also became one of the elements representing the Silesian region at the 2022 EXPO in Dubai. These events are the result of cultural policies implemented at the level of the institution and the result of the activity of the local community, influencing and shaping the frequently emotional relationships within it. The purpose of this article is to present practices using Koniaków lace, which are related to such issues as cultural policy, heritage management, or community empowerment.

    The article focuses on art understood as a tool for building relationships between man and nature, and the resulting participation of man in nature. The character of this tool, that is art, is dependent on the development of philosophical thoughts and the level of civilization, and has changed together with the development of culture. Recently, under the influence of the progressive degradation of the natural environment, artistic activities are ecologically oriented. However, it is an observable fact that the “taming” of nature through art makes one function more easily in the existing reality.

    The role of folk culture, especially artistic works based on traditional patterns and shaped under the influence of natural, historical, social and economic factors has an unquestionably important position in a discussion on the national heritage, its separateness and “place” in the European culture. Ethnologically, the folk art was interpreted as the utilitarian, religious, magic, prestigious, culture created as well as artistic and aesthetic value. The discussion on the contemporary state of the so called folk art and scope of definition of the very cultural phenomenon experiences many obstacles. The notions “ folk art”, “folk works” and “innate works” demand necessary verification in which one has to take into account new defining criteria, such as technique, subject-matter, function, and, above all attitude and author’s artistic self-awareness. A characteristic feature of this work is the continuation of traditional patterns and at the same time search for artistic individualism. In consequence, it leads to diverging from a typical convention, aiming at new, different formal, technical and thematic solutions. What needs verification is also the notion of “a folk author”. Nowadays it is rather a “pseudofolk” author, an artist for whom the most important is the process of creating his/her own artistic reality, experienced inside him/herself and its expression. A creative passion is an attempt to fight with passing time and rapid changes he/she does not follow, and overcoming workshop and emotional barriers. The very text is an attempt to characterize the contemporary and individual artistic work on the basis of the studies conducted in Silesia, especially Cieszyn Silesia and Zaolzie.

    In the light of a deepening globalization and degradation of a cultural diversification of societies, many actions aiming at maintaining their unique nature are taken. The very activity concentrates especially on intangible representations of cultural heritage which are particularly susceptible to depreciation, and, consequently, loss as a result of modern civilization processes such as uncontrolled urbanization and destruction of rural areas. The awareness of constantly progressing dangers enforces taking proper actions and engaging the international society. Out of concern for maintaining the most precious elements of the world intangible heritage, a series of programmes, among whom the ones conducted by UNESCO should be paid special attention to. One of them is the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the result of which is among others creating The Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. UNESCO’s convention was approved of enthusiastically as an important step to maintaining cultural heritage. At the same time, the actions undertaken initiated many debates, mainly in the circle of ethnologists, culturologists, animators or pedagogues. The voices of polemics touch upon many aspects of The Convention: from theoretical-methodological to those concerning particular means of realizing given tasks. The article concentrates on several selected issues that need reflection, or even, verification of opinions made so far. The findings in question are very important especially in the light of ratifying The Convention by the Republic of Poland in 2011.

    This text deals with selected issues related to the use of cultural heritage undertaken from the position of stakeholders. Theoretical considerations are based on selected examples of craft skills used in safeguarding intangible heritage. The lively activity of dissemination and promotion of these skills is largely linked to the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention on the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and the consequent creation of the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. In particular, the text analyses aspects of the nomination process of heritage bearers and the outcomes of such a role. More broadly, the article highlights issues related to the boundary between cultural heritage appreciation and appropriation, as well as heritage management and community empowerment.
    Niniejszy tekst dotyczy wybranych zagadnień związanych z praktykowaniem dziedzictwa kulturowego. Rozważania teoretyczne odnoszą się do egzemplifikacji wybranych przykładów umiejętności rzemieślniczych i rękodzielniczych, które są wykorzystywane w działaniach na rzecz zachowania niematerialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego. Ożywiona aktywność upowszechniania i promowania tych umiejętności wiąże się w znacznym stopniu z implementacją Konwencji UNESCO z 2003 r. w sprawie ochrony niematerialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego oraz wynikającej z niej Krajowej listy niematerialnego dziedzictwa kulturowego. W tekście analizie poddano głównie aspekty dotyczące procesu nominowania depozytariuszy dziedzictwa kulturowego i tego, co wynika z takiej roli. W szerszej perspektywie, artykuł rzuca światło na zagadnienia związane z granicą między docenieniem a zawłaszczaniem dziedzictwa kulturowego oraz z zarządzaniem dziedzictwem i podmiotowością społeczności lokalnej.

    Opis:
    This paper provides an overview on the current knowledge of chlamydiae prevalence in pigs. Within the order Chlamydiales are Gram negative obligate intracellular pathogens. The family Chlamydiaceae has recently been taxonomically revised and there are two genera proposed: Chlamydia and Chlamydophila. Organisms of both genera can be isolated from their specific animal hosts worldwide. In pigs C. suis, C. abortus, C. pecorum and C. psittaci have been isolated. Chlamydial infections in pigs are associated with different clinical diseases such as conjunctivitis, rhinitis, pneumonia, pericarditis, polyarthritis, abortion, stillbirths and reproductive disorders. Infections can be frequently asymptomatic, and the host serves as natural reservoir of the organisms. Diagnosis of swine chlamydiosis is rather rare, since most veterinary diagnostic laboratories do not perform routine examination for chlamydiae. Meanwhile, recent scientific reports present data, confirming that swine chlamydiosis can be an important health problem in swine farms and may cause significant economic losses.

    Introduction. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive joint condition that leads to joints destruction and complications in the internal organs and significantly affects the a patient’s functional, physical, psychological and social condition. Over the last few years, research into the quality of life (QoL) in people with chronic disease has been conducted to assess the results of treatment. Aim. The aim of the study was to assess QoL in various areas of life in regards to physical and mental functioning, social relations, and environmental influences in people with RA. Material and methods. The study group (subjects with RA) and the control group (subjects without RA) consisted of 48 people each. Subject age ranged from 19 to 68. In order to assess QoL, the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was used, while socio-demographic data were assessed with a questionnaire developed by the authors. Results. QoL in people with RA was lower than that of healthy individuals. The worst QoL was observed in the physical domain. No statistically significant association was found between BMI and QoL. It was found, however, that subjects with RA and a higher level of physical activity had a better QoL than those with a lower level of physical activity. Conclusion. There was no association between the body mass of RA patients and QoL assessment. However, an association was found between the level of physical activity in people with RA and QoL in the physical and environmental domain.

    The issues of aesthetic values of city space have so far been the interest of urbanists, architects or aestheticians and rarely ethnologies despite the fact that the discipline has been dealing with the subject matter of the city and urbanness for years. An attempt to find the answer to the question: What decides on our positive or negative reception of an industrial space and to what an extent do aesthetic values shape it? constitute the subject matter of the article. The space which surrounds us, shapes psychophysical attitudes of individuals, which influences its contacts with the society in which it functions. High aesthetic values of the city give rise to and decide on the dynamics of interactions taking place here, increase the need of identification and sense of community, especially important among the inhabitants. They also condition the attitudes of newcomers and tourists, which may decide on its development. At the same time, the ugliness of the city brings about negative effects, causes frustration, alienation, or even aggression of individuals as well as de orientation of the group. Aesthetic values of the city space depend on the natural environment in which the city (the lie of the land, river) is inscribed, from the structure and building and street plan, especially on a clearly indicated centre - the market square, finally from the compilation of colour, chiaroscuro model, small architecture forms which “furnish” the city, the greenery and people. An important place is given here to the advertisement and reflections of the so called street art.
