Opis:: Artykuł porusza problem tłumaczenia automatycznego tekstów specjalistycznych, w których często pojawiają się rzeczowniki określające części ciała, lecz używane w zawężonym kontekście technicznym. Autorka koncentruje się na kilku najczęściej pojawiających się rzeczownikach i bada, w jaki sposób radzą sobie z ich prawidłowym tłumaczeniem na język polski wybrane translatory automatyczne dostępne online. Autorka przedstawia jednocześnie, w jaki sposób można rozwiązać tego typu problemy pojawiające się w tłumaczeniu automatycznym za pomocą metody zorientowanej obiektowo, w której zasadniczą rolę odgrywają klasy obiektowe ujęte w odpowiedni kadr pojęciowy.
The article concentrates on the problem of automatic translation of specialist texts which often include the nouns referring to parts of the body but used in the narrowed technical context. The author discusses a few most often used nouns and examines how a group of chosen automatic translators available on-line cope with their appropriate translation into Polish. Simultaneously, the author proposes how some problems which appear in the process of automatic translation can be solved with the help of the object oriented approach, where the main role is ascribed to object classes presented in the appropriate frame.

Opis:: Business Sustainability Model Summary The challenges of sustainable development are considered by contemporary managers to be one of the decisive forces affecting the manner of thinking, acting, managing and competing in the short-term and long-term perspectives. Many management theoreticians view business sustainability as the superior management concept or even as a new paradigm in management sciences. However, the review of the management literature proves that there is no explicitness in the understanding of the notion of business sustainability. The aim of the monograph was to construct a multi-dimensional concept of business sustainability and to verify it empirically. In the monograph a theoretical proposal of the multi-dimensional concept of business sustainability was formulated. A thorough and critical analysis of several dozen studies defining business sustainability (and sustainable business) showed that it is a complex notion, integrating many, often contradictory, aspects. The participation of a business in sustainable development became a key criterion for formulating the gradable, multi-dimensional concept, finally defined as the business”s commitment and activity for the benefit of contributing to sustainable development. The dimensions of business sustainability were identified. Five dimensions were distinguished in reference to sustainable development dimensions, but they were explicitly defined as the dimensions of business sustainability. They are as follows: the sustainable value (with reference to the economic dimension), the social orientation, the environmental orientation, the temporal orientation and the spatial scope. The analysis of the relationships among the aforementioned dimensions of business sustainability (also the tensions and contradictions among them) formed the basis for distinguishing additional dimensions. These are: the integrated cognitive logic, business sustainability management and the holistic-altruistic axiology. The proposed concept was the basis for the hypothetical multi-dimensional model of business sustainability. The extensive empirical research were carried out to verify the hypothetical model of business sustainability. In total, 694 businesses were examined. Among them were 391 businesses functioning in Poland and 303 in Denmark. Those businesses were different in terms of their industries, sizes and ownership forms. The research was carried out by means of the survey method. The primary method of statistical analysis was the confirmatory factor analysis. As a result of the research, the two-factor concept of business sustainability was formulated which considers the scope of the business”s commitments and the activities performed for the benefit of contributing to sustainable development and the mechanisms integrating this commitment and activities. The research results prove the strong interdependence of both factors. The empirical verification provides the basis for speaking about a certain continuum of business sustainability: from instrumental to holistic approach. Moreover, the relationship between business sustainability and organizational performance were investigated.

Opis:: Four-month-old female Wistar rats were exposed for 20 days to tobacco smoke obtained from non-filter cigarettes. During the exposure, concentration of tobacco smoke was monitored indirectly by measuring the CO level (1500 mg/m3 air). The efficacy of exposure was assessed by measuring urine nicotine and cotinine levels. Cigarette smoke did not change total cytochrome P450 and b5 protein levels in any of the organs studied, and most of these organs did not show any changes in the activity of reductases associated with these cytochromes. Following exposure to tobacco smoke, fetal rat liver expressed CYP2B1/2 protein; in newborns (day 1) both liver and lung showed CYP2B1/2 protein expression and very low pentoxyresorufin O-dealkylase activity. Western blot analysis of adult liver, lung, heart, but not of brain microsomes, showed that tobacco smoke induced CYP2B1/2 in both nonpregnant and pregnant rats, though its expression was lower in the livers and hearts of pregnant females. In the rat and human placenta, neither rat CYP2B1/2 nor human CYP2B6 showed basal or tobacco smoke-induced expression at the protein level. This study shows clearly that the expression of CYP2B1/2, which metabolizes nicotine and some drugs and activates carcinogens, is controlled in rats by age-, pregnancy-, and tissue-specific regulatory mechanisms.

Opis:: Objectives Gonadoliberin (GnRH) analogs may be expected to indirectly modify growth hormone (GH) total concentration and its 24-h secretion profile. As a consequence, changes in the levels of GH may modify the mechanism of sexdependent cytochromes P450 (CYP450) synthesis, including the expression of transcriptional factors. The aim of the study has been to evaluate the effect of long-term administration of a low dose of GnRH analogs on hepatic expression of CYP2C and CYP3A isoforms, and the transcription factors: pregnane X receptor (PXR), hepatocyte nuclear factor 4α (HNF4α), HNF6 and signal transducers and activators of transcription 5b (STAT5b). Material and Methods The study was carried out on adult female Sprague-Dawley rats during a 3-month treatment with dalarelin (GnRH agonist) and cetrorelix (GnRH antagonist), at a daily intraperitoneal injection (i.p.) dose of 6 μg/kg body weight/day, and 1, 2, and 4 weeks after treatment discontinuation. The concentrations of ovarian hormones and GH in the blood serum were determined by radioimmunoassay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method, respectively. Then, the expression of hepatic CYP450s (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction – RT-PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry) and transcription factors (RT-PCR) was evaluated. Results We have found that cetrorelix induces changes in the circadian pattern of GH secretion and enhances GH blood concentrations. These changes may cause increased expression of both, female-specific CYP450s (especially CYP3A9), and HNF4α/HNF6 transcription factors. Decrease in GH blood concentrations, resulting from the effect of dalarelin, may promote inhibition of female-specific CYP2C12 and CYP3A9 isoforms as well as STAT5b transcription factor. Slight changes in sex-independent CYP3A1 protein expression caused by GnRH analogs were also observed. Conclusions In adult female rats, HNF4α/HNF6 and STAT5b seem to be crucial for the regulation of GnRH antagonist/GH- and GnRH agonist/GH-dependent pattern of CYP450 expression, respectively.
