Opis:
Quite recently we modified the original model of Sarkar et al. for cubic metals in extending the ion-ion interaction, ion-electron interaction and the introduction of crystal equilibrium condition. We applied our scheme to alkali metals. We studied here the lattice dynamics of noble metals on our approach by calculating phonon dispersion relations along the three principal symmetry directions, [ξ00], [ξξ0] and [ξξξ] and the (θ-T) curves of three noble metals: copper, silver and gold. We obtained reasonable agreement with the experimental findings.

Opis:
The original model of Das et al. is modified in extending the electron-ion interaction on a three-body forces and including the crystal equilibrium condition to reduce one independent parameter. We studied the phonon dispersion relations along the three principal symmetry directions i.e. [ξ,0,0], [ξ,ξ,0] and [ξ,ξ,ξ] and θ-T curves of alkali metals, Na, K, Rb, Cs and Li. There is close agreement between the computed results and the experimental observations.

Opis:
The protein profiles of the epimastigote stages from eight reference strains of Trypanosoma cruzi belonging to three different lineages (TcI, TcII and TcVI) were analyzed by SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), under standardized conditions. More than 40 protein bands were observed in each strain. Around 55% of them were not shared by all stocks (non-conserved proteins), representing their intra-specific variability. Then, they were coded for processing by numerical taxonomy, using three association coefficients and the UPGMA clustering algorithm. With all coefficients assayed, two major groups were clearly seen, confirming the dichotomy within T. cruzi taxon, as demonstrated by other molecular and biochemical approaches. In the present study, the term peptideme was used to name the groups of strains based on their polypeptide profiles, following the above-cited methodology. Then, two major peptidemes were identified, each one presenting subdivisions. The isolates identified as TcI clustered in the same major peptideme, displaying a subgroup with the opossum isolates (G, SC28, Dm28c) apart from the stock of human origin (Colombian strain). The other major peptideme also showed two subgroups, regardless the coefficient used. One of them included the TcII strains (Y, SF21), both from Brazilian patients, and the other the TcVI stocks, both originally from triatomines from Southern Brazil (CL Brener, FL). As far we know, this is the first report on the parity between the T. cruzi lineages consensually accepted and their grouping into peptidemes based on SDS-PAGE and the numerical analysis of non-conserved proteins.

Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory
Opis:
Objectives Reliable and valid instruments are essential for understanding fatigue in occupational settings. This study analyzed the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory (SOFI). Material and Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with 218 workers from an automotive industry involved in assembly tasks for fabrication of mechanical cables. Convergent and discriminant validity, internal consistency reliability and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. Results Results showed adequate fit to data, yielding a 20-item, 5-factor structure (all intercorrelated): Chi²/df (ratio Chi² and degrees of freedom) = 2.530, confirmatory fit index (CFI) = 0.919, goodness of fit index (GFI) = 0.845, root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA) = 0.084. The SOFI presented an adequate internal consistency, with the sub-scales and total scale presenting good reliability values (Cronbach’s α values from 0.742 to 0.903 and 0.943 respectively). Conclusions Findings suggest that the Portuguese version of the SOFI may be a useful tool to assess fatigue and prevent work-related injuries. In future research, other instruments should be used as an external criterion to correlate with the SOFI dimensions. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2017;30(3):407–417

Opis:
The Movable Scaffolding System (MSS) is a heavy construction equipment used for casting situ of concrete bridge decks. In the past decades, MSSs have become increasingly complex and industrialized, enlarging its span ranges, incorporating auxiliary elevation machinery and increasing productivity. The tendency nowadays is for strong reutilization and the notion of MSS as a disposable or temporary structure is somehow reductive. The main structure of MSSs may be potentially exposed to fatigue, usually characterized by low number of cycles with significant stress amplitude. Fatigue may be prevented through adequate design; judicious selection of materials; demanding quality control and implementation of robust inspection and maintenance plans.
System ruchomych rusztowań – Movable Scaffolding System (MSS) to ciężki konstrukcja budowlana wspomagająca wykonanie betonowych mostów. Zmęczeniu można zapobiec poprzez odpowiedni projekt i rozsądny dobór materiałów. Jest to konstrukcja wymagająca ścisłej kontroli jakości i wdrożenia solidnych planów inspekcji i konserwacji.

Opis:
The austenitic stainless steels are a group of alloys normally used under high mechanical and thermal requests, in which high temperature oxidation is normally present due to oxygen presence. This study examines the oxide layer evolution for Fe24Cr12NiXNb modified austenitic stainless steel A297 HH with 0,09%Nb and 0,77%Nb content at 900°C under atmospheric air and isothermal oxidation. The modifiers elements such as Mo, Co and Ti, added to provide high mechanical strength, varied due to the casting procedure, however main elements such as Cr, Ni, Mn and Si were kept at balanced levels to avoid microstructure changing. The oxide layer analysis was performed by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The elemental analysis of the different phases was measured with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The Nb-alloyed steel generated a thicker Cr oxide layer. Generally elemental Nb did not provide any noticeable difference in oxide scale growth, for the specific range of Nb amount and temperature studied. High temperature oxidation up to 120h was characterized by protective Cr oxidation, after this period a non-protective Fe-based oxidation took place. Cr, Fe and Ni oxides were observed in the multilayer oxide scale.
