Opis:
Cel pracy. Określenie determinantów korelujących z wyborem kierunku studiów oraz poznanie planów zawodowych studentów ratownictwa medycznego. Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w 2013 roku metodą sondażu diagnostycznego. W celu zebrania materiału empirycznego zastosowano autorski kwestionariusz ankiety. Grupę badaną stanowiło 133 studentów kierunku ratownictwo medyczne Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Zawodowej (PWSZ) im. J. Grodka w Sanoku. Wyniki. Wnioski. W badanej grupie zmiennymi korelującymi z wyborem kierunku studiów były: płeć, miejsce zamieszkania, wiek studentów oraz tryb studiowania.
Introduction. Among the factors deciding about the choice of study specialty by young people are: interests, personal predispositions, and possibilities. The impact of the closest friends/family, mass media and prospects for finding employment with professional prospects are also of great importance. Objective. The objective of the study was determination of factors affecting the choice of study specialty, and recognition of professional plans among students of emergency medicine. Material and methods. The study was conducted in 2013 by the method of a diagnostic survey. In order to collect the empirical material, a questionnaire was used designed by the author. The study group were 133 students of the specialty of emergency medicine at the J. Grodek State Higher Vocational School in Sanok. Results. In the majority of students in the study, being convinced by others was the factor deciding about the choice of emergency medicine as a profession, mainly among part-time students. A coincidence most frequently decided about the choice of the specialty of emergency medicine by urban inhabitants and female students. Females evaluated the possibilities of their employment in this profession in less optimistic terms than males. Males and persons aged 31–35, as well as urban inhabitants, after studies, planned to undertake work with the ambulance services, whereas females and part-time students – in a hospital emergency department. Full-time students and rural inhabitants intended to undertake employment with the State Fire Brigade. More than a half of respondents evaluated their opportunities for employment in accordance with the learned profession in high terms. In the respondents’ opinions, studies, including practical and theoretical education, prepare the graduates for practicing their occupation. The students indicated that having a vocation is very important in the profession of a paramedic. Conclusions. In the examined group, the variables correlating with the choice of study specialty were: gender, place of residence, students’ age, and mode of studies.

Opis:
Introduction. Despite great progress in the diagnostics and treatment, breast cancer still remains the most frequently diagnosed malignant cancer in women. The outcomes of cancer treatment depend, to a considerable extent, on the degree of acceptance of the illness. The objective of the study was determination of the level of acceptance of the disease among the examined women with breast cancer. Materials and method. The study covered a group of 231 women who received treatment for breast cancer in the Rev. Bronislaw Markiewicz Subcarpathian Oncology Centre in Brzozow, south-eastern Poland, and conducted by the method of a diagnostic survey, using an author constructed questionnaire and the standard Acceptance of Illness Scale, adapted by Z. Juczyński. Statistical analyses were performed using the software IBM SPSS v. 21.0.0.1. The p values p≤0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results. The mean level of acceptance of the illness in the examined group of women was 26.53 (SD = 7.71; Me = 26). The largest number of respondents (50.6%) obtained scores within the range of 20–29, according to the AIS Scale. From among the adopted variables, the level of acceptance of the illness significantly varied according to age and occupational activity. However, no such differences were confirmed according to the place of residence, marital status, education level, or the type of occupation performed. Conclusions. In the examined group of women, a mediocre level of acceptance of cancer was observed. The respondents’ age and occupational situation exerted a significant effect on the level of acceptance of the illness. The results of the study should be considered as satisfactory because the number of women with a high level of acceptance of breast cancer was more than twice as high as those ones with a low acceptance of the disease.

Introduction. The biggest threat to life are cardiovascular diseases which are a serious problem in Poland, Europe, and worldwide. Therefore, it has become important to have proper health behaviours which significantly eliminate the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases. Objective. The main aim of this study is to present factors that determine health behaviours of the 50+ population with cardiovascular diseases. Materials and metod. The study was carried out among 411 individuals aged over 50 with cardiovascular diseases. The method used was a diagnostic survey. The study involved an authors’ survey questionnaire and the Inventory of Health-Related Behaviours (IHB). A detailed statistical analysis was carried out in the R programme, version 3.5.1. Results. The most common disease in the study group was coronary heart disease – 63.75%. The majority of respondents showed (via Inventory of Health-Related Behaviour [IHB]) that the level of their health behaviours was moderate – 41.12%; the highest level of health behaviours in the study group were related to health practices, while a slightly lower level was observed in the area of positive mental attitude. Statistical significance was also found between the level of intensity of health behaviours and age, gender, BMI, place of residence, education, professional activity and marital status of the respondents. Conclusions. Anti-health behaviours were predominant among the respondents; significant demographic and social factors determining health behaviour were determined, such as age and gender; a high level of health behaviours was found in the group of women with higher education and correct body mass, living in cities and married.

Introduction. In the human skin exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, melanogenesis occurs in two stages, accompanied by urinary excretion of Thormalen-positive melanogen (TPM). In Poland, no data are available on the course and intensity of melanogonesis in relation to UV exposure in an industrial region. Material and methods. The Thormalen test was used for the collected samples (N=136) as modified by Matous and Suchoń. Results. Maximum environmental TPM content (0.67 μg/dm3) was observed in August. Conclusion. The time of UV exposure and local type of solar radiation promote melanogenesis.

Opis:
Introduction. Many known substances affecting the serotoninergic system induce definite physiological effects, including those which are therapeutic. For instance, the enhanced serotoninergic transmission due to decreased functions of autoreceptors and increased inhibitory functions of postsynaptic 5-HT1A is associated with antidepressant effect. The central serotoninergic system takes part in the regulation of many bodily functions, such as sleep, wakefulness, blood pressure, pain perception or sexual behaviours. Moreover, it is involved in the pathogenesis of depression, anxiety, addictions, migraine and other headaches. In pain therapy, not only typical analgesics are used, but also substances without obvious analgesic effect, thus allowing potential pharmacological modulation of analgesic activity in the treatment of pain. Objective. The aim of the study was to determine whether a chemical lesion to the central noradrenergic system at an early stage of individual development alters reactivity of 5-HT3 receptors in adult rats. Materials and method. The study used newborn and adult Wistar rats aged 8–10 weeks. Behavioural tests (writhing test, formalin assay) were used to assess the analgesic action of ondansetron as a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. Results. The analgesic effect of ondansetron (1.0 mg/kg b.w., i.p.) in the writhing test was weak and short. Pain intensity score after ondansetron injection (1.0 mg/kg b.w., i.p) was 2–3 points and did not differ significantly between the study groups. Conclusions. Damage to the central noradrenergic system at an early stage of individual development has no effect on the antinociceptive effects of the serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonist, ondansetron, in the persistent pain model.
