Resource-based cities were once the backbone of Chinese economy for decades. When natural resources were depleted, however, these cities become negative assets of China and urgently need sustainable transition. Given the vast number of resource-exhausted cities in China, their success transitions not only mean much to themselves but also have great implications on China’s sustainability. Taking Lengshuijiang, one of the 67 resource-exhausted cities of China, as a case, this article investigated sustainable transition of resource-exhausted cities in Chinese context. Firstly, we reviewed the development problems it faces in the past two decades. Secondly, we examined the countermeasures it took since 2009. Although this article mainly focuses on Lengshuijiang, the findings and discussion will provide insights for other resource-exhausted cities of China and other parts of the word in reviewing their development strategies as most of them are facing similar sustainable challenges.
Miasta bazujące na surowcach stanowiły trzon chińskiej gospodarki od dziesięcioleci. Gdy zasoby naturalne zostały wyczerpane, miasta te stały się ujemnymi aktywami Chin i pilnie potrzebują zrównoważonych przekształceń. Biorąc pod uwagę dużą liczbę takich miast, ich sukces nie tylko będzie ważny dla nich samych, ale odegra również istotną rolę w zrównoważonym rozwoju całych Chin. Jako przykład wybrano Lengshuijiang, jedno z 67 miast, które dotknęło wyczerpanie zasobów, analizując zrównoważoność dokonanych tam przekształceń. Po pierwsze oceniono problemy rozwojowe występujące w ciągu ostatnich dwudziestu lat. Po drugie, zbadano skuteczność środków zaradczych, wprowadzonych w 2009 r. Przykład miasta Lengshuijiang stanowi punkt odniesienia dla strategii rozwojowych innych miast dotkniętych problemem wyczerpania surowców tak w Chinach, jak i w innych państwach świata, ponieważ większość z nich to staje w obliczu podobnych wyzwań.

To improve the clinical effect of scutellarin by extending the action time in vivo, scutellarin loaded polymeric micelles were developed by D-alpha tocopherol polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate (Scu/TPGS). Scu/TPGS were prepared using film solvent diffusion methods and characterized on the basis of their particle size, zeta potential, and drug encapsulation efficiency. Dynamic dialysis was used to study the release behavior of the polymeric micelles in vitro. Its pharmacokinetic characteristics and antithrombotic efficacy were studied by intravenous injection in rats. The results showed that Scu/TPGS were spherical, 20.09±2.62 nm in size and a slow release in vitro. The pharmacokinetic parameter T1/2 of Scu/TPGS was 762.12±46.56 min compared with commercial injection of 59.30±10.67 min (p<0.05). At the 1 mg/kg dose, the thrombolysis effect of micellar group was stronger than that of the commercial group (p<0.05). In conclusion, TPGS polymer micelles provided a valid strategy in chemotherapy for cerebrovascular diseases with poor water solubility and poor lipid solubility drugs such as scutellarin.

Opis:
In order to reveal the seepage law of ammonium carboxylate solution in the in-situ leaching process of weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ores, the effects of concentration, pH, temperature, particle size and porosity on permeability were discussed in this paper. The results shown that the seepage of the leaching agent solutions in the rare earth ore follows Darcy's law and displays a laminar flow under the conditions of this experiment and seepage velocity can be increased by changing leaching conditions. The permeability coefficients are inversely proportional to concentrations of ammonium acetate, ammonium tartrate and ammonium citrate whose concentration is greater than 0.7wt%, because the insoluble complexes formed by the reaction of ammonium citrate with RE3+ at lower concentration n decrease the permeability coefficient. The permeability coefficients of ammonium carboxylate solutions increase firstly and then decrease with the pH increased. The maximum of permeability coefficients of ammonium acetate, ammonium tartrate and ammonium citrate solution were 2.92, 1.91 and 2.70, respectively, while the pH of solution were 5, 6 and 7, respectively. Increasing temperature is beneficial for the seepage of ammonium carboxylate solution in orebody, therefore, it is helpful for leaching operation in summer. Moreover, clay minerals particle size and porosity are the key factors affecting the permeability of ammonium carboxylate solution in orebody. The permeability coefficients of ammonium acetate, ammonium tartrate and ammonium citrate solutions are 2.92×104cm/s,1.90×10-4cm/s and 2.69×10-4cm/s, respectively, at the same temperature of 293K, original particle size and porosity of the ore. Ammonium acetate solution has the best permeability in orebody.

The adsorption behavior of lead species on the hydrated rutile surface was investigated with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. ICP-MS experiments suggested that lead species can be readily absorbed by the rutile powder in water at pH 6.5. From the ICP-MS results and the species distribution of Pb2+, it was concluded that Pb2+ was the major lead species adsorbing at the rutile/water interface at the pH of 6.5. DFT calculation results indicated that Pb2+ could adsorb at four different sites on the surface. At each site, water molecules or OH groups were involved in the reaction with Pb2+. The water molecules/OH groups on the rutile surface play an important role during the adsorption of Pb2+ on the hydrated rutile surface.

N-hexadecanoylglycine (C16Gly) is a newly synthesized collector, which can be used as an efficient collector for fluorapatite (FA) rather than for dolomite. To extend our knowledge regarding the C16Gly collector, the contact angle method was employed to understand the flotation selectivity of C16Gly in the FA and dolomite system. On the other hand, the possible binding models of C16Gly anion on Ca-rich and PO4-rich terminations of FA (001) surface were investigated with density functional theory calculations to reveal the interaction between the C16Gly and the FA surface. Results showed that C16Gly anion could interact with these two terminations to generate 12 low-energy configurations, including bidentate, tridentate and chelating binding models. The C16Gly anion preferred to adsorb onto the Ca-rich termination, which is caused by the weaker electrostatic repulsion force between the C16Gly anion and the PO4 groups on this termination. The adsorption of C16Gly on these terminations was more stable than that on the dolomite (104) surface, which is one of the reasons for the preferential flotation of FA from dolomite using C16Gly as a collector. These findings provide further insights into the selectivity of C16Gly during the flotation of FA and dolomite.

Opis:
Structure of samples of lithium iron vanadium phosphates of different compositions were investigated by X-rays, electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The investigated salts were mainly of olivine-like and NASICON-like structures. The X-ray diffraction and the Raman scattering show different crystalline structures, which is probably caused by difference between cores of the crystallites (probed by X-rays) and their shells (probed by the Raman scattering). Most of the Raman spectra were identified with previously published data, however in the samples with high vanadium concentration we have observed new, not reported earlier modes at 835 $cm^{-1}$ and 877 $cm^{-1}$, that we identified as oscillations related to $V_2O_7^{4-}$ or $VO_4^{3-}$ anions.

Opis:
In the extra- thick coal seams and multi-layered hard roofs, the longwall hydraulic support yielding, coal face spalling, strong deformations of goaf-side entry, and severe ground pressure dynamic events typically occur at the longwall top coal caving longwall faces. Based on the Key strata theory an over-burden caving model is proposed here to predict the multilayered hard strata behaviour. The proposed model together with the measured stress changes in coal seam and underground observations in Tongxin coal mine provides a new idea to analyse stress changes in coal and help to minimise rock bursts in the multi-layered hard rock ground. Using the proposed primary Key and the sub-Key strata units the model predicts the formation and instability of the overlying strata that leads to abrupt dynamic changes to the surrounding rock stress. The data obtained from the vertical stress monitoring in the 38 m wide coal pillar located adjacent to the longwall face indicates that the Key strata layers have a significant influence on ground behaviour. Sudden dynamically driven unloading of strata was caused by the first caving of the sub-Key strata while reloading of the vertical stress occurred when the goaf overhang of the sub-Key strata failed. Based on this findings several measures were recommended to minimise the undesirable dynamic occurrences including pre-split of the hard Key strata by blasting and using the energy consumption yielding reinforcement to support the damage prone gate road areas. Use of the numerical modelling simulations was suggested to improve the key theory accuracy.
Przy eksploatacji pokładów węgla o dużej miąższości i w warunkach stropu złożonego z wielu warstw górotworu w rejonie przodka ściany występuje szereg niekorzystnych zjawisk dynamicznych skutkujących zmianami ciśnienia górotworu: ugięcie podpór hydraulicznych stabilizujących strop, pękanie skały węglowej w rejonie przodka, silne odkształcenia chodnika od strony zrobów. W oparciu o teorię warstwy kluczowej (o największej nośności), zaproponowano model zawału warstwy nadkładu do prognozowania zachowania wielowarstwowej formacji złożonej ze skał twardych. Zaproponowany model w połączeniu z pomiarami zmian ciśnienia w pokładzie węgla oraz wynikami obserwacji w podziemnej kopalni węgla Tongxin umożliwia analizę zmian ciśnienia w złożu przyczyniając się do redukcji ryzyka wystąpienia tąpnięć w górotworze zbudowanym z wielu warstw skalnych. Uwzględniając charakterystyki podstawowych warstw kluczowych, model umożliwia prognozowanie wystąpienia niestabilności warstw nadkładu, które prowadzić mogą do gwałtownych zmian ciśnienia w otaczających warstwach. Dane z monitoringu naprężeń pionowych rejestrowane w filarze węglowym o szerokości 38 m zlokalizowanym w pobliżu przodka ściany wskazują, że warstwy kluczowe górotworu w zasadniczy sposób warunkują zachowanie się gruntu. Gwałtowne odprężenie warstw górotworu wskutek zjawisk dynamicznych spowodowane zawałem warstwy znajdującej się poniżej warstwy kluczowej przy ponownym obciążeniu wskutek naprężeń pionowych wystąpiło w momencie zawału nawisu górnej ławy warstwy znajdującej się poniżej warstwy kluczowej. W oparciu o te ustalenia, zaproponowano szereg rozwiązań mających na celu zminimalizowanie skutków niekorzystnych zjawisk dynamicznych, w tym wstępne rozszczepienie twardych warstw kluczowych poprzez wybuchy i zabezpieczenie obudową wejść do chodników, które mogłyby ulec uszkodzeniu. Zaproponowano wykorzystanie modelu wraz z symulacjami numerycznymi w celu poprawy dokładności teorii dotyczącej zachowania warstw kluczowych w górotworze.

Due to their excellent performance, composite materials are increasingly used in the marine field. It is of great importance to study the low-velocity impact performance of composite laminates to ensure the operational safety of composite ship structures. Herein, low-velocity drop-weight impact tests were carried out on 12 types of GRP laminates with different layup forms. The impact-induced mechanical response characteristics of the GRP laminates were obtained. Based on the damage model and stiffness degradation criterion of the composite laminates, a low-velocity impact simulation model was proposed by writing a VUMAT subroutine and using the 3D Hashin failure criterion and the cohesive zone model. The fibre failure, matrix failure and interlaminar failure of the composite structures could be determined by this model. The predicted mechanical behaviours of the composite laminates with different layup forms were verified through comparisons with the impact test results, which revealed that the simulation model can well characterise the low-velocity impact process of the composite laminates. According to the damage morphologies of the impact and back sides, the influence of the different layup forms on the low-velocity impact damage of the GRP laminates was summarised. The layup form had great effects on the damage of the composite laminates. Especially, the outer 2‒3 layers play a major role in the damage of the impact and the back side. For the same impact energy, the damage areas are larger for the back side than for the impact side, and there is a corresponding layup form to minimise the damage area. Through analyses of the time response relationships of impact force, impactor displacement, rebound velocity and absorbed energy, a better layup form of GRP laminates was obtained. Among the 12 plates, the maximum impact force, absorbed energy and damage area of the plate P4 are the smallest, and it has better impact resistance than the others, and can be more in line with the requirements of composite ships. It is beneficial to study the low-velocity impact performance of composite ship structures.

Opis:
Considering the environmental pollution caused by waste rubber, some measures should be taken to improve the utilization rate of waste rubber. In this study, the effect of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) particles in the polyurethane (PU) foams on sound absorption behavior is investigated for improving sound environment within vehicles and reducing the environment pollution. EPDM particles of different contents and hardness are used as fillers for producing foams with different pore morphologies and sound absorption properties. The results show that adding EPDM to foam would produce smaller pores, higher density and bigger air-flow resistivity. Simultaneously, there are better sound absorption properties of the PU foam composites in the medium frequency region, and the better value can be obtained at the lower frequency with the content of EPDM increasing. The hardness of EPDM also shows better influence on sound absorption properties, especially in the medium frequency region. It means the foam pore morphologies have influence on sound absorption properties.

Opis:
Ionic liquid (IL) pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials has provided a new technical tool to improve lignocellulosic ethanol production. To evaluate the influence of the residual IL in the fermentable sugars from enzymatic hydrolysis of IL pretreatment of lignocellulosic materials on the subsequent ethanol fermentation, the toxicity of the IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMIM]Cl) to Saccharomyces cerevisiae AY93161 was investigated. Firstly, the morphological structure, budding and metabolic activity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae AY93161 at different [BMIM]Cl concentrations were observed under an optical microscope. The results show that its single cell morphology remained unchanged at all [BMIM]Cl concentrations, but its reproduction rate by budding and its metabolic activity decreased with the [BMIM]Cl concentration increasing. The half effective concentration (EC50) and the half inhibition concentration (IC50) of [BMIM]Cl to Saccharomyces cerevisiae AY93161 were then measured using solid and liquid suspension culture and their value were 0.53 and 0.39 g.L-1 respectively. Finally, the influence of [BMIM]Cl on ethanol production was investigated. The results indicate that the [BMIM]Cl inhibited the growth and ethanol production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae AY93161. This toxicity study provides useful basic data for further development in lignocellulosic ethanol production by using IL technology and it also enriches the IL toxicity data.

As an important research area of modern manufacturing, tool condition monitoring (TCM) has attracted much attention, especially artificial intelligence (AI)- based TCM method. However, the training samples obtained in practical experiments have the problem of sample missing and sample insufficiency. A numerical simulation- based TCM method is proposed to solve the above problem. First, a numerical model based on Johnson-Cook model is established, and the model parameters are optimized through orthogonal experiment technology, in which the KL divergence and cosine similarity are used as the evaluation indexes. Second, samples under various tool wear categories are obtained by the optimized numerical model above to provide missing samples not present in the practical experiments and expand sample size. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by its application in end milling TCM experiments. The results indicate the classification accuracies of four classifiers (SVM, RF, DT, and GRNN) can be improved significantly by the proposed TCM method.

In this study, we report the cloning and characteristics of an adiponectin-like receptor gene from Bombyx mori (BmAdipoR) with highly conserved deduced amino-acid sequences and similar structure to the human adiponectin receptor (AdipoR). Structural analysis of the translated cDNA suggested it encoded a membrane protein with seven transmembrane domains. BmAdipoR was found to be expressed in multiple tissues and highly expressed in Malpighian tubules, fat body and testis. BmNPV (Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus) bacmid system combined with confocal microscopy revealed that BmAdipoR was targeted to the cell membrane. We also found that infection with BmNPV did not have an effect on BmAdipoR mRNA quantity in the midgut of susceptible Bombyx mori strain (306) at 48 h, but BmAdipoR mRNA quantity increased significantly at 72 h. We concluded that BmAdipoR gene was a membrane protein ubiquitously expressed in Bombyx mori tissues and that its expression was altered by treating with BmNPV.

ObjectivesThe proper porthole angle contributes to relieving the operation fatigue and improving the efficiency of oceanauts. In this study, the authors explored the effect of 3 different porthole longitudinal positions on the oceanauts’ back muscles using surface electromyography (sEMG) analysis, and the characteristics of the perceived body comfort was obtained.Material and MethodsOverall, 40 healthy participants were recruited to perform tasks in a simulated cabin environment. Electromyographic (EMG) signals were recorded from the trapezius medius, lower trapezius, and erector spinal muscles for porthole angles of –5°, –15°, and +15°, relative to the horizontal line of sight during a 21-minute experiment. The subject comfort scores were collected at 7, 14 and 21 min. The integrated electromyogram (iEMG) and the root mean square (RMS) of EMG signals, as well as the mean power frequency (MPF), and the mean frequency (MF) were calculated.ResultsThe subjective scores of the +15° porthole at each stage of work are higher than those of the –15° and –5° portholes. The results of iEMG, RMS, MF and MPF all indicated that the +15° porthole design was more conducive to lowering the rate of muscle fatigue, while the –5° and –15° portholes increased the muscle fatigue rate and led to greater fatigue. It was found that the lower trapezius was more prone to fatigue than the trapezius medius and erector spinal muscles. The height, weight and body mass index of the participants were found to negatively correlate with muscles at the +15° porthole, which is highly consistent with the actual situation.ConclusionsThe findings suggested that the +15° position was optimal for delaying the muscle fatigue of the participants and for improving the work efficiency of oceanauts.
