    Maintenance is fundamental to ensure the safety, reliability and availability of engineering systems, and predictive maintenance is the leading one in maintenance technology. This paper aims to develop a novel data-driven predictive maintenance strategy that can make appropriate maintenance decisions for repairable complex engineering systems. The proposed strategy includes degradation feature selection and degradation prognostic modeling modules to achieve accurate failure prognostics. For maintenance decision-making, the perfect time for taking maintenance activities is determined by evaluating the maintenance cost online that has taken into account of the failure prognostic results of performance degradation. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy is confirmed using the NASA data set of aero-engines. Results show that the proposed strategy outperforms the two benchmark maintenance strategies: classical periodic maintenance and emerging dynamic predictive maintenance.

    In this study, direct shear tests were carried out on cement mortar specimens with single-ladder, single-rectangular, and double-rectangular step joints. Consequently, the shear strength, and crack shape of specimens with these through-step joints were analyzed, for understanding the influence of the through-step joint’s shape on the direct shear mechanical properties. The results of the investigation are as follows: (1) Under the same normal stress, any increases in the height h of the step joint causes an initial-increase-decrease in the shear strengths of specimens with single-ladder and double-rectangular step joints, causing a type-W variation pattern for the specimens with single-rectangular step joint. More essentially, when normal stress and h are constant, the shear strength of specimens with a single-ladder step joint is the greatest, followed by specimens with a double-rectangular step joint, and then specimens with a single-rectangular step joint is the least. (2) Furthermore, given a small h and low normal stress, specimen with a single-ladder step joint mainly experiences shear failure, whereas specimens with single-rectangular and double-rectangular step joints mainly generate extrusion milling in the step joints.

    By combining a wavelet transform with chaos scrambling, an image compression and encryption algorithm based on 2D compressive sensing is designed. The wavelet transform is employed to obtain the sparse representation of a plaintext image. The sparse image is measured in two orthogonal directions by compressive sensing. Then, the result of 2D compressive sensing is confused by the Arnold transform and the random pixel scrambling. The combination of four-dimensional chaos and logistic map is exploited to generate the first row of the key-controlled circulant matrix. The proposed algorithm not only carries out image compression and encryption simultaneously, but also reduces the consumption of the key by controlling the generation of measurement matrix. Experimental results reveal that the proposed image compression and encryption algorithm is resistant to noise attacks with good compression performance and high key sensitivity.

    The normal mode solution for the form function and target strength (TS) of a solid-filled spherical shell is derived. The calculation results of the spherical shell’s acoustic TS are in good agreement with the results of the finite element method (FEM). Based on these normal mode solutions, the influences of parameters such as the material, radius, and thickness of the inner and outer shells on the TS of a solid-filled spherical shell are analyzed. An underwater spherical shell scatterer is designed, which uses room temperature vulcanized (RTV) silicone rubber as a solid filling material and does not contain a suspension structure inside. The scatterer has a good TS enhancement effect.

    Due to the relatively closed environment, complex internal structure, and difficult evacuation of personnel, it is more difficult to prevent ship fires than land fires. In this paper, taking the large cruise ship as the research object, the physical model of a cruise cabin fire is established through PyroSim software, and the safety indexes such as smoke temperature, CO concentration, and visibility are numerically simulated. An Attention-BP neural network model is designed for realizing the intelligent identification of a cabin fire and dividing the risk level, which integrates the diagnosis results of multiple neural network models through the self-Attention mechanism and adaptively distributes the weight of each BP neural network model. The proposed model can provide decision-making reference for subsequent fire-fighting measures and personnel evacuation. Experimental results show that the proposed Attention-BP neural network model can effectively realize the early warning of the fire risk level. Compared with other machine learning algorithms, it has the highest stability and accuracy and reduces the uncertainty of early cabin fire warning.

    With the needs of social development, the scale of power equipment continues to expand. Among them, the transformer, as the core equipment in the power system, plays a key role in the safe and stable operation of the power system. However, in the field where the field strength is too high, partial breakdown of insulating media, that is the partial discharge occurs, which brings certain threats and damage to the safe operation of the power system. Therefore, this article uses the kurtosis-approximate entropy variational mode decomposition (VMD) partial discharge signal denoising method is used to preprocess the UHF partial discharge signal, through the simulation analysis and the result comparison, the feasibility of the method for denoising the partial signal of the transformer is clarified, designed to improve the safety and reliability of transformer operation.

    Polyurethane (PU) is a polymer widely used in the biomedical field with excellent mechanical properties and good biocompatibility. However, it usually exhibits poor antibacterial properties for practical applications. Efforts are needed to improve the antibacterial activities of PU films for broader application prospect and added application values. In the present work, two PU films, TDI-P(E-co-T) and TDI-N-100-P(E-co-T), were prepared. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were composited into the TDI-N-100-P(E-co-T) film for better mechanical properties and antibacterial activities, and resultant PU/AgNPs composite film was systematically characterized and studied. The as-prepared PU/AgNPs composite film exhibits much better antibacterial properties than the traditional PU membrane, exhibiting broader application prospect.

    Opis:
    Soluble APRIL (sAPRIL), the active form of a proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL), is implicated in the proliferation of tumor cells. Suppressing APRIL function has been considered as a potential strategy for the therapy of APRIL-associated tumors. In the present study, we generated human sAPRIL and its two mutants, Gln187-D-sAPRIL (Gln187 deleted) and Gly187-sAPRIL (Gln187 replaced by Gly). In vitro experiments showed that the two mutants had similar specific binding capacity to lung carcinoma A549 cells compared to the wild-type sAPRIL, and both, especially Gly187-sAPRIL, exhibited significant antagonistic effect on sAPRIL-induced tumor cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner, which might be predominantly mediated by blocking sAPRIL-induced MEK and ERK phosphorylation but not p38MAPK or JNK signaling. In vivo experiments with nude mice bearing A549 cell-derived xenograft tumor showed that only the Gly187-sAPRIL mutant could significantly suppress the tumor growth. These results suggest that Gln187 may be a crucial amino acid in APRIL-mediated tumor cell proliferation via the MEK-ERK signaling pathway and that the sAPRIL mutants may serve as novel potential antagonists of APRIL for the therapy of APRIL-associated cancers.

    It is shown that under certain conditions on ${c_{jk}}$, the rectangular partial sums $s_{mn}(x,y)$ converge uniformly on $T^2$. These conditions include conditions of bounded variation of order (1,0), (0,1), and (1,1) with the weights |j|, |k|, |jk|, respectively. The convergence rate is also established. Corresponding to the mentioned conditions, an analogous condition for single trigonometric series is $∑_{|k|= n}^∞ |Δc_k| = o(1/n)$ (as n → ∞). For O-regularly varying quasimonotone sequences, we prove that it is equivalent to the condition: $nc_{n} = o(1)$ as n → ∞. As a consequence, our result generalizes those of Chaundy-Jolliffe [CJ], Jolliffe [J], Nurcombe [N], and Xie-Zhou [XZ].
