Opis:
We prove a factorization theorem for transfinite kernel dimension in the class of metrizable spaces. Our result in conjunction with Pasynkov's technique implies the existence of a universal element in the class of metrizable spaces of given weight and transfinite kernel dimension, a result known from the work of Luxemburg and Olszewski.

Opis:
Critical Infrastructures (CIs), such as those that are found in the energy, financial, transport, communications, water, health and national security sectors, are an essential pillar to the well-being of the national and international economy, security and quality of life. These infrastructures are dependent on a wide variety of highly interconnected information systems for their smooth, reliable and continuous operation. Cybercrime has become a major threat for such Critical Information Infrastructures (CIIs). To mitigate this phenomenon, several techniques have been proposed within the space of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs). IDS is an important and necessary component in ensuring network security and protecting network resources and network infrastructures. In this paper, we propose a lightweight, non-intrusive generic embedded system that aids in the protection of CIIs. The operation of the proposed system is based on state of the art IDS and other open source frameworks for the monitoring and supporting services and aims to fulfill the end-user’s requirements. The generic and non-intrusive nature of the system along with the low configuration effort allows rapid deployment to a wide range of CII nodes such as telecommunication routers and smart grid nodes, as well as for single endpoint protection.

Opis:
The majority of operations, as well as the physical and chemical processes, which take place on offshore Natural Gas installations are controlled by computer systems. These computer systems are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. If successful, such attacks can have disastrous and far-reaching consequences, including human casualties, large-scale pollution, and immense financial cost. In this paper we identify one possible way that an attacker can inflict material damage, by altering the parameters of the gas hydrate inhibition system. The formation of gas hydrates can completely halt operations for a prolonged period of time, could damage equipment, and directly endanger human lives. To raise the level of protection we propose the implementation of two lines of defense the second based on machine learning algorithms. Appreciating the sophistication of attacks, the inherent risks and complexity of multi-billion offshore energy assets we highlight the need for further research intended to address safety loopholes.
