    This article tries to estimate the importance and nature of challenges faced by humanistic research on admiration in light of mindfulness as defined by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The author seeks to establish to what extent mindfulness and the resulting admiration are present in the current school and university education system. The text ponders on reasons why admiration tends to be either absent or only flickering in the school reality. Examples of educational situations are analysed to show that admiration is often not required, taking into account the conditions for it to appear. The ‘undeserved’ admiration that wells up in response to typical school activities gives hope for it to be more frequently present at school and more consciously initiated by the teacher. The discussion is based on the author’s own study and content analysis of statements of Polish philology students from the University of Silesia in Katowice. Key thematic fields are defined to introduce and describe the nature of admiration, a largely underappreciated but extremely important experience in modern culture.

    W prezentowanym artykule przedmiotem refleksji dydaktycznej jest edukacja muzealna. Zastosowana metoda badań to autobiografia tematyczna. W badaniach uczestniczyło 27 nauczycieli wyłonionych na podstawie wyboru rekomendacyjnego. Analizie poddane zostały te fragmenty wypowiedzi autobiograficznych nauczycieli, które wiążą się bezpośrednio z ich pracą zawodową, z realizacją edukacji muzealnej w systemie kształcenia szkolnego. W prezentacji wyników badań własnych opisane zostały dwa pola tematyczne. Pierwsze to uwagi nauczycieli na temat powiązań edukacji muzealnej z realizacją podstawy programowej kształcenia ogólnego oraz drugie pole tematyczne związane z uczniem jako głównym odbiorcą i bezpośrednim uczestnikiem edukacji muzealnej.
    This article discusses didactic reflection in relation to museum education. 27 teachers were sampled through recommendation-based selection and the method of thematic autobiography was used. The analysis concerned some fragments of teachers’ autobiographies which were directly related to their professional work and the implementation of museum education in the school system. Two thematic fields are described. The first comprises teachers’ comments on the interrelations of museum education and the implementation of the core curriculum of general education. The second field concerns the learner as the main recipient and direct participant of museum education.

    The presented study explores the ways in which two events from the history of Poland – the baptism of Mieszko I and the so-called ‘pagan reaction’ – are shown in history textbooks and curricula. Both of these events are treated here as remembrance sites, creating the historical canon, which constitutes one of the pillars of Poles’ memory of the past. The method of public discourse analysis was applied. The analysis of textbooks and curricula showed that while the christening of Poland is presented as an exceptional remembrance site in its history (one of the major events constituting the historical canon), the so-called pagan reaction is a hardly noticeable event. The attitude to the Slavic past, which is characteristic for the analyzed texts, can be placed within the discourse of depreciation, to which the argumentation, linguistic means, and the symbolism have been subordinated.

    The paper is of investigative character for elaborating cooperation standards between museums and educational institutions. It aims at presenting and interpreting the results of the Museum’s own research of the Face Culture Project implemented in 2017–2019 at the National Museum in Cracow. The analysis of the factors favouring and impeding cooperation of museum and school has become the basis for a wider generalization and shaping models of museum and school learning in which the following elements have been distinguished: goals, subjects, objects, means, methods, conditions, and results. These elements have been presented from the perspective of both museum and school. The paper may prove of interest to school teachers and museum educators cooperating with schools, as well as to theoreticians of museology and of museum pedagogy, the latter developing as a subdiscipline of pedagogy.

    This article presents an excerpt from a qualitative study conducted as part of a research project on cultural education models within formal education. The method of document analysis was used in the study to analyse documents in the form of essays created especially for the study purposes. A total of 33 graduates of Creative Activity Classes aged from 19 to 26 years participated in the study. This article proposes some conclusions about the value of cultural education offered as a planned formal education activity. They are drawn based on the statements of the group of students who attended educational courses enriched with cultural practices.

    The paper presents the research project implemented by the staff of the University of Silesia in Katowice during the Museum Power Exhibition at the National Museum in Krakow. The semiotic interpretation of the data amassed in FGIs and IGIs, these enriched with class observations, Desk Research, as well as the analysis of purpose-created documents, allowed to fulfil the goal of the investigation. The interdepartmental cooperation launched when educators became Exhibition’s curators was of the main interest to the researchers. These actions were considered as examples of the implementation of the ‘educational turn’ in Polish museology where tendencies to clearly separate and differently evaluate curatorial and educational practices are distinctly visible. The analysis of the manners of extending fields of museum education by educators-curators enabled the identification of a set of recommendations for initiating display projects implemented and co-created by the education department staff. In the presentation of the research results the focus has been put on three areas in which the shift was observed: types of knowledge organizing thinking about the display; perception and application of educators’ competences; and shaping informal relations and producing institutional trust. The paper speaks in favour of the necessity to take into account the experience and competences of the education department employees when creating valuable exhibitions and consolidating good relations with committed public.

    Artykuł przedstawia projekt badań zrealizowany przez pracowników Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach w czasie trwania wystawy Moc Muzeum w Muzeum Narodowym w Krakowie. Interpretacja semiotyczna danych, zebranych w drodze wywiadów zogniskowanych oraz indywidualnych wzbogaconych o obserwację zajęć i analizę dokumentów zastanych i intencjonalnie stworzonych, pozwoliła na realizację celu badań. Interesowała nas współpraca międzydziałowa rozpoczęta, gdy edukatorzy stali się kuratorami wystawy. Działanie to potraktowaliśmy jako przykład realizacji w obrębie „zwrotu edukacyjnego” w polskim muzealnictwie, gdzie wciąż widoczne są tendencje do wyrazistego oddzielenia i odmiennego wartościowania praktyki kuratorskiej i edukacyjnej. Analiza sposobów rozszerzania pola edukacji muzealnej przez edukatorów-kuratorów pozwoliła na sformułowanie zestawu rekomendacji w inicjowaniu projektów ekspozycyjnych realizowanych i współtworzonych przez pracowników działów edukacji. W prezentacji wyników badań skupiliśmy się na trzech obszarach, w ramach których doszło do przesunięć pola: w zakresie typów wiedzy organizującej myślenie o ekspozycji, w zakresie postrzegania i wykorzystywania kompetencji edukatorów oraz w zakresie kształtowania relacji nieformalnych i wytwarzania zaufania instytucjonalnego. Artykuł stanowi głos w sprawie konieczności uwzględnienia doświadczeń i kompetencji pracowników działów edukacji w konstruowaniu wartościowych wystaw i budowaniu dobrych relacji z zaangażowaną publicznością.

    W prezentowanym artykule przedstawiono fragment badań jakościowych, będących częścią większego projektu badawczego, dotyczącego kulturowej koncepcji pedagogiki, w tym szczególnie praktyk kulturalnych młodzieży studiującej w trybie stacjonarnym. W badaniach posłużono się metodą biograficzną, autorskim kwestionariuszem wywiadu narracyjnego. Dobór próby był celowy, uzyskano 32 narracje autobiograficzne. Wszystkie wywiady zostały nagrane na dyktafon, a następnie dokonano ich transkrypcji. Do analizy materiału badawczego wykorzystano metodę analizy treści. Badania dały zróżnicowany i złożony obraz autoedukacji studentów, której przedmiotem są treści z kultury: Model I: Systematyczne i celowe wykorzystywanie treści z kultury w procesie autoedukacji; Model II: Mniej lub bardziej świadome wykorzystywanie treści z kultury do rozwijania samego siebie; Model III: Kultura jako sposób wypełniania czasu wolnego – mimowolny wpływ kultury na rozwój człowieka; Modele mieszane.

    Objectives This study examined the effects of 6-week Nordic walking (NW) workout with individually customized intensity, on the body composition, and oxidative stress biomarkers for women > 55 years of age. Material and Methods Sixteen sedentary women (age 58.1±2.02 years old, body mass index (BMI) 26.74±2.72 kg/m²) worked out the NW 3 times/week over the 6-week period. Training intensity, which reflected the dominance of oxygen metabolism, was determined based on changes in physiological indicators during graded exercise on a treadmill (walking with poles). The body composition and oxidative stress biomarkers in blood were measured before and after the exercise routine. Results After the training period, body weight, body fat percentage, body mass index and uric acid levels in serum decreased significantly (p < 0.05). At the same time the plasma total antioxidant status increased considerably (p < 0.05), while the total oxidative status and the oxidized low-density lipoproteins concentration levels did not change significantly (p > 0.05). Conclusions Within a relatively short time, the Nordic walking with the customized intensity level focused on the dominance of fat metabolism, decreased body fat and improved the blood antioxidant defense system for previously sedentary women.
