    Opis:
    Baylisascaris procyonis is a large nematode of the order Ascaridida, specific for raccoon (Procyon lotor). In North America, raccoons are extremely common in rural, suburban, and urban settings, where they have become well adapted to living alongside people. In the 1930s raccoons were introduced into Europe (i. a. Poland) and Asia for the commercial fur trade and into Japan as pets. The prevalence of B. procyonis infection in raccoons is often high, and infected animals can disseminate in their feces enormous numbers of parasite eggs. Raccoons defecate in preferred communal sites, termed latrines which play a vital role in the transmission dynamics of B. procyonis. Intestinal infections of non-raccoon species have been documented in dogs, rabbits in Japan and experimentally in opossums. Over 100 species mammals and birds can be paratenic host for B. procyonis. This parasite has emerged in recent years as one of the most serious causes of zoonotic visceral, ocular, and neural larva migrans and, in particular, of devastating encephalitis in young children. Several probable or confirmed cases of severe or fatal human B. procyonis infection have been documented. Diagnosis of Baylisascaris encephalitis is based on clinical central nervous system disease, peripheral and cerebrospinal fluid eosinophilia, deep white matter lesions visible by magnetic resonance imaging, and positive results of serologic tests. Treatment efficacy in clinical cases is poor, but albendazole prevents disease if given promptly after infection. While human baylisascariasis appears to be rare, the devastating neurologic disease that is caused by this infection and the lack of effective treatment make it a disease of public health importance. Certain characteristics of B. procyonis make it a feasible bioterrorist agent, because eggs can survive in the environment for extended periods of time, and the infectious dose of B. procyonis is relatively low. Moreover, the organism causes a severe, frequently fatal infection in humans, and no effective therapy or vaccine exists.

    Tortoises are a novelty in the world of pets. Although a great deal of information has been acquired on the internal medicine and surgery on these animals, little is known of their parasitological fauna. Fecal samples of 11 species of tortoises housed in the City Zoological Garden in Wroclaw were examined. Eggs of parasitic helminths were isolated using flotation and sedimentation techniques. The overall prevalence was 81.2%. Two groups (Nematoda and Trematoda) of endoparasites were found. Oxyurid eggs were found almost in every animal examined. Co-infection with oxyurids and ascarids was recorded for T. horsfieldii and T. marginata. Three species of tortoises were infected by digenic trematodes.

    Opis:
    Innovative solutions are Implemented as a result of very complex and often lengthy processes. The processes of innovation are strong connected to the uncertainty and risk. The paper shows the proposal of multi-criteria assessment method oriented on potential effects of implementing innovation for the production system as a whole. It is more complete than monocriteria assessment, thus giving a more comprehensive image of the effects of the proposed solution. The method has been developed based on aggregate assessment. Aggregate assessment is a general assessment of the values of a certain object in this case the production system. It consists in combining individual assessment criteria into one unity. The values may be positive or negative and refers to various types of aspects, e.g. utilitarian, technical, economic, social, depending on the strategy of enterprise. When we want to implement the specified innovation in the production system, we should diagnose the potential effects of it for the whole system. It is the main reason of using the proposed methodology. The use of the method was shown on the example of implementation of the world class innovative software solution called IPOsystem. The system individually manages the work of employees and machines on an ongoing basis, including all changes concerning the condition of these resources and the current status in the production process in real time. IPOsystem complements ERP class systems in the field of active process planning and manufacturing process control. It provides managers with credible and current information concerning resources, production orders, terms of order realisation, actual working time, costs, quality control results, production deficiencies, breakdowns etc.
