Opis:
The adsorption of rhodium (III) ions onto gallic acid formaldehyde resin in a batch adsorber has been studied. Adsorption experiments were carried out by agitating 1 g resin particles with 1000 ml of Rh (III) ion solution of the initial concentrations from 16.54 to 88.80 mg/l (293K, 1M HCl). Using Langmuir isotherm, a single stage batch adsorber was designed for different adsorbent mass/treated effluent volume ratios. An initial rhodium concentration of 100 g/m³ is assumed and the required amount of resin particles to recover metal ion content by 75%-99% at various volumes of effluents. For a single-stage adsorption system, thus the adsorbent demonstrated recovery capacity. For example, 1 m³ of solution is to be treated; the required masses of gallic acid resol resin are 25 kg for 75% rhodium removal. In order to recover 90% of the rhodium (III) at various volumes of solution which having different metal concentrations, the required amount of gallic acid resin was calculated. For example, 1 m³ of solution is to be treated, the required amounts of resin particles to reduce the rhodium content by 90% increased from 75 to 76 kg with increase in the initial rhodium metal concentration from 0.1 to 100 g/m³. Through such a projection, a real single stage adsorption system can be designed.

Opis:
Al^{3+} doped spinel structured cathode active nanoparticles were produced by microwave hydrothermal synthesis. Structural characterization of as synthesized nanoparticles was performed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) Spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Electrochemical characteristics of the material have been investigated by packaging cell material into a CR 2016 button cells. All electrochemical experiments were carried out using lithium metal foil as the counter electrode. First discharge capacitiy of doped material is 303 mAh/g at 0.1 C rate. We have obtained 69 mAh/g specific capacity and 98.7 percent capacity retention for the first cycle at 0.5 C rate.

Opis:
In this study, we consider a technology selection problem in maritime logistics based on lifespan, brand value, maintenance, repair, operations and cost. Low cost, acceptable risk, and environment friendly form of transportation are primarily required for the logistics sector. In a conventional holistic approach, technology is firstly selected in terms of its cost. However, in the step-wise manner, it is obvious that other factors (i.e. reliability, sustainability, etc.) directly involve in to the selection process. By using conventional AHP method, we investigate the general tendency of the ship owners and its reflections to the maritime logistics.

Opis:
Hydroxyapatite (HA) is one of the most widely used biomaterials for orthopedic and dental applications. However, HA is a brittle and weak material and this constrains its orthopedic applications. There are several methods for the improvement of mechanical properties of the HA. One of these methods is to strengthen the HA material by a secondary phase (i.e polymer, metal or ceramics), to make a stronger composite material. Alumina (Al₂O₃) is a bioinert material, which has been widely investigated as a reinforcing agent for HA. The aim of this study is to compare the microstructural and mechanical properties of HA-Al₂O₃ composites with the addition of 5 and 10 wt.% of commercial inert glass (CIG). The grain samples were produced according to BS 7253 at 350 MPa. Then, they were sintered at temperatures between 1000-1300°C for 4 hours. The samples were also analyzed by SEM + EDS to determine microstructural properties, phase analysis was done by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), mechanical properties were measured by compression and hardness tests. Results show that HA-Al₂O₃ composites with addition of 5 and 10 wt.% CIG have reached high density values and high mechanical properties, such as compression strength and hardness at 1300°C. The compression strength and hardness of composites has increased with the increasing CIG content.

Opis:
In this study several bioceramic materials (i.e. hydroxyapatite, whitlockite) were prepared by using chemical synthesis method from sea snail shells (Tiger Cowrie - Cypraea Tigris), originated from Pacific Ocean. Marine shells usually present aragonite-calcite structures and generally, complicated and pressurized equipment is necessary to convert these structures into bioceramics. Instead of using complicated systems, a basic ultrasonic equipment and simple chemical synthesis method was used in the process. DTA analysis was performed to calculate the required amount of H₃PO₄ solution in order to set the appropriate stoichiometric ratio of Ca/P equal to 1.667 for HA bioceramic or to 1.5 for β-TCP bioceramic in the titration. The prepared batches were sintered at 800°C and 400°C for hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tri calcium phosphate (β-TCP) forms respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared observations (FTIR) were implemented for both TCP and HA bioceramics. By applying the chemical synthesis with basic ultrasonic equipment, this study proposes a simple way of production for nano-HA /TCP powders from a natural marine sources.
