    The interrelationships between the development of the financial system and the growth in the economy are the subject of the research of many authors. The research on these relations is being conducted both on theoretical and empirical land. On the basis of current analyses and studies concerning the relation between the financial development and the growth in the economy it is hard explicitly to answer whether it is a development of the financial sector it influences the growth in the economy whether rather a growth in the economy causes the development of the financial sector as well as whether these relations are simultaneous or delayed. The purpose of this article is an attempt to identify occurring reports between the growth in the economy and the development of the financial sector in Poland on the basis of the attempt given annual in the period 1994-2005. Research analysis has empirical character and it comes down to estimating its parameters by construction of the econometric model in which an interrelationships are appearing between the growth in the economy and the development of the bank system in Poland and carrying simulation analysis out.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie relacji między wskaźnikiem reprezentującym wartość udzielonych kredytów do PKB a wzrostem gospodarczym dla grupy jedenastu krajów Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej. Parametry modelu ekonometrycznego szacowane są za pomocą metody najmniejszych kwadratów oraz uogólnionej metody momentów przy wykorzystaniu estymatora Blundella‑Bonda. Wyniki badania empirycznego pokazują, że cała grupa może być podzielona na trzy jednorodne podgrupy o różnych wartościach optymalnego poziomu wskaźnika krajowego kredytu do PKB. Wyniki oszacowania parametrów modelu paneli pokazują, że Łotwa, Litwa, Estonia i Słowacja prawdopodobnie osiągnęłyby wyższy poziom wzrostu gospodarczego, jeżeli analizowany współczynnik wynosiłby 0,48. W przypadku Polski, Czech i Węgier optymalna wartość analizowanego współczynnika wyniosła 0,6. W przypadku Bułgarii, Chorwacji i Rumunii rozwój systemu finansowego wydaje się nie mieć żadnego wpływu na poziom wzrostu realnego PKB.
    This paper analyses the relationship between the domestic credit to GDP ratio and economic growth in a group of 11 countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The parameters of the econometric model used, were estimated using a pooled regression method and the Blundell‑Bond systemic estimator. The results of our empirical investigation show that the entire group can be divided into 3 homogeneous sub‑groups with different values of the optimal level of domestic credit to GDP ratio. Estimation of the parameters with the use of a panel model show that Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Slovakia would probably have reached a higher level of economic growth if the analysed coefficient had been at a level of 0.48. In the case of the sub‑group encompassing Poland, Czech Republic and Hungary, the optimal value of the analysed coefficient turned out to be 0.6. In the case of the Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania sub‑group, the development of the financial system, which is represented in this article by the ratio of domestic credit to GDP, does not seem to have any impact on the rate of growth of real GDP.

    This paper reviewd theoretical aspects between financial system and economic growth. Theory and practice illuminates many of channels though which the emergence of financial instruments, markets and institutions affect - and are affected - economic development. Financial system may provide different services at different stages of economic development, so that the financial system needs to evolve if growth is to continue. Theory suggests that financial systems influence growth by easing information and transactions costs and thereby improving the allocation of capital, corporate governance and financial exchanges.

    The business of investment banking is trending toward one-stop shopping and globalization. This article presents the history and the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act, which determine present level of development of investment banking. The 1933 Banking Act combined a bill sponsored by Representative Steagall to establishing federal deposit insurance with a bill sponsored by Senator Glass to segregate the banking and securities industries. More commonly known as the Glass-Steagall Act, is distinguished between: commercial banking, which is the business of taking deposits and making loans and investment banking, which is the business of underwriting and dealing in securities. In 1999 Congress passed the Financial Services Competition Act, eroded the Glass-Steagall separation of commercial and investment banking by permitting banks to have affiliated securities firms.

    Opis:
    Services of the financial sector is one of the most important catalysts of economic growth. The main focus is the analysis of one of the elements characteristic and strongly interacting in recent decades, the participation of credit intermediation in promoting economic growth. The Global Financial Crisis has affected the changes in the architecture of the global financial system. In this paper the main attention is directed towards trying to optimize the bank credit to GDP ratio in the Polish economy We obtained that the optimal level of financial depth is 0.43 in the case of Polish economy. If the financial depth is below this level then it has positive impact on the economic growth. Above this level, financial system in Poland seems to be “too large” compared to the size of the domestic economy. Above this line the financial development hits negative social returns.
    Usługi sektora finansowego są jednym z najważniejszych katalizatorów wzrostu gospodarczego. Główna uwaga jest zwrócona w kierunku próby optymalizacji relacji kredytu bankowego do PKB w polskiej gospodarce. Globalny Kryzys Finansowy ponownie ukazał pewne nieprawidłowości w funkcjonowaniu i rozwoju sektora finansowego i jego „przecenionego” oddziaływania na wzrost gospodarczy. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, iż optymalny poziom udziału kredytów bankowych w stosunku do PKB za lata 2000-2015 wynosi 43%. Poniżej tego poziomu potencjał wzrostowy gospodarki nie jest w pełni wykorzystywany. Jeśli analizowana relacja przekracza 0.43, to wówczas nadmierne zadłużenie gospodarstw domowych i konieczność płacenia wysokich rat hamuje popyt wewnętrzny i prowadzi do niższej stopy wzrostu PKB.

    The aim of the study is to evaluate changes in the net international investment position in the European Union in the years 2006–2014 in the context of compliance within the framework of the announced process of macroeconomic disturbances. It was reviewed of the most important theoretical concepts. The goal of the article is a critical analysis of the literature of the subject and analysis of statistical data regarding the international investment position of countries for the period 2006–2014. On this basis, it was made an attempt to assess the current movement behavior of the MPI net balance in the EU. In the EU there are significant differences in capital flows measured by the net international position. The outbreak of the crisis in 2008 caused changes in trend in the development of the capital structure in MPI. During 2006–2014 increased the absolute value of the assets and liabilities of MPI. In most EU countries deepens the negative balance of financial flows of international investment position to GDP of the countries.
    Celem opracowania jest próba ocenienia zmian, jeśli chodzi o międzynarodową pozycję inwestycyjną netto45w krajach Unii Europejskiej w latach 2006–2014 w kontekście przestrzegania zaleceń w ramach ogłoszonej procedury zakłóceń makroekonomicznych. W niniejszej pracy dokonano przeglądu najważniejszych koncepcji teoretycznych, będących punktem wyjścia dalszych rozważań. W tym celu przeanalizowano literaturę przedmiotu oraz dane statystyczne dotyczące międzynarodowej pozycji inwestycyjnej krajów w latach 2006–2014. Na tej podstawie spróbowano ocenić współczesne tendencje dotyczące salda netto MPI w UE. W krajach UE występują znaczące różnice w przepływach kapitału mierzonego międzynarodową pozycją netto. Wybuch kryzysu w 2008 r. wywołał zmiany w tendencji w kształtowaniu się struktury kapitału w MPI. W okresie 2006–2014 następuje wzrost absolutnych wartości aktywów oraz pasywów MPI. W większości krajów UE pogłębia się ujemne saldo przepływów finansowych międzynarodowej pozycji inwestycyjnej względem PKB badanych krajów.

    Project finance has been used for decades in Western countries to found major resource and infrastructure projects in a manner which is satisfactory and beneficial to the sponsors and financiers alike. Central and Eastern Europe represents the next frontier for successful project finance transactions. Project finance refers to the financing of long-term infrastructure, industrial projects and public services based upon a non-recourse or limited recourse financial structure where project debt and equity used to finance the project are paid back from the cash-flow generated by the project. Private sector investment and management of public sector assets is being openly encouraged by governments and multilateral agencies who recognize that private sector companies are belter equipped and more efficient than governments in developing and managing major public services. Countries such as Poland have the potential to greatly benefit from this method of financing.

    Opis:
    Celem pracy jest ocena zmian w przepływach wybranych form kapitału w procesie integracji finansowej w Unii Europejskiej. Państwa członkowskie UE podzielono na dwie grupy: kraje strefy euro oraz kraje spoza niej należąc do UE. Analiza zbiega się z ustanowieniem unii monetarnej w UE i obejmuje okres z początku XXI wieku. Dokonano przeglądu najważniejszych koncepcji teoretycznych. Wraz z postępującą integracją finansową państw członkowskich UE następuje wzrost ogólnej wartości przepływów finansowych netto mierzonej MPI. Metoda badawcza stosowana w tym studium zawiera przegląd koncepcji teoretycznych, przegląd literatury oraz dokonano analizy porównawczej wybranych wielkości. Wyniki badania wykazały istotne różnice pomiędzy krajami rozwiniętymi i rozwijającymi jeśli chodzi o różnice w przepływach netto różnych form kapitału oraz jego relacje względem PKB wykorzystując do tego międzynarodową pozycję inwestycyjną. Analiza stopnia integracji finansowej i handlowej krajów strefy euro w porównaniu z państwami członkowskimi pokazała, że obie grupy leżą na dwóch przeciwstawnych biegunach.
    The paper aims at assessing the changes in flows of selected forms of capital under deepening financial integration in the European Union. EU Member States are divided into two groups: members of the euro area and those outside of it. The analysis coincides with the establishing of the EU monetary union and covers the turn and early 21st century. We have reviewed major theoretical concepts providing grounds for further considerations. Together with the progressing financial integration of the EU Member States there is an increase in the overall value of financial flows measured with net IIP. Research method applied in this particular study includes the overview of theoretical concepts, literature review and a comparative analysis based on statistical data. Analyses of selected data revealed significant differences between developed and developing countries when it comes to various forms of net capital and its relation to the GDP based on the International Investment Position. The analysis of the degree of financial and trade integration of the Eurozone countries compared to the Member States outside of the euro area demonstrated that the two groups are at two opposite extremes.

    In this article the attention is concentrating on one thing of TOOW aspects and the new endogenous approach which analysis of the commercial interrelation of countries of shared monetary area. According to McKinnon (1963) the top stair of opening economies of running states is an essential criterion of OOW creating. And so countries can create this area about the great participation of the foreign trade in the national product. Economy for them more opened the all the greater significance in shaping prices in the country has the currency exchange rate. On this base an attempt of the reply to the question will be taken whether monetary integration of Poland with the euro zone can contribute considerably to the height of the trade exchange between Poland and remaining members of the euro zone.

    Artykuł koncentruje się na jednym z aspektów TOOW oraz nowego endogenicznego podejścia, którym jest analiza wzajemnych powiązań handlowych krajów wspólnego obszaru walutowego. Według McKinnona (1963) podstawowym kryterium tworzenia OOW jest wysoki stopień otwarcia gospodarek państw kandydujących. A zatem obszar ten mogą tworzyć kraje o dużym udziale handlu zagranicznego w produkcie narodowym. Im bardziej otwarta gospodarka, tym większe znaczenie w kształtowaniu cen w kraju ma kurs walutowy. Dokonano analizy literaturowej wybranych badań w badanym przedmiocie oraz analizy danych statystycznych odnoszących się do wymiany handlowej Polski w okresie 2000–2010 pomiędzy strefą euro oraz krajami należącymi do Unii Europejskiej pozostającymi poza unią walutową.
    The paper focuses on one of the aspects of the OCA theory and on a new endogenous approach analysing mutual trade links of the countries in a common currency area. According to Kinnon (1963), a high degree of openness of the candidate countries is a precondition for establishing an OCA. Thus, the area can be created by countries with a high share of exports and imports in their GDP. The more open an economy, the higher the importance of the exchange rate for prices. We reviewed the literature on selected studies on the subject and analysed statistical data describing Poland’s trade in the years 2000–2010 with the euro area and EU member states outside of it.

    At the turn of the twentieth and twenty-first century, worldwide significant changes were made in the structure of the external investment position. In Asia and in the countries of the Middle East, there was recorded a dynamic growth of financial surpluses, while in other developing countries there was noted a significant increase of the equity in liabilities and a strong accumulation of foreign exchange reserves. Generally, in the era of financial globalization since the 70s and 80s followed by a dynamic increase in the share of IIP liabilities in the GDP of developed countries. From the 90s to the beginning of the XXI century, we can note a high growth rate of the share of equity capital in the capital structure. The aim of the study is to analyze the international investment position of Poland to selected countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the countries in the euro area.
    Na przełomie XX i XXI w. na świecie zaszły znaczące zmiany w strukturze zewnętrznej pozycji inwestycyjnej krajów. W państwach Azji i Środkowego Wschodu zanotowano dynamiczny wzrost nadwyżek finansowych, natomiast w pozostałych krajach rozwijających się zauważono znaczący wzrost kapitału udziałowego w pasywach ogółem oraz silną akumulację rezerw walutowych. Generalnie, w dobie postępującej globalizacji finansowej od lat 70. i 80. XX w. następuje dynamiczny wzrost udziału pasywów MPI w PKB krajów rozwiniętych. Od lat 90. XX w. do początku XXI w. zauważyć można wysokie tempo wzrostu kapitału udziałowego w strukturze kapitału. Celem opracowania jest analiza międzynarodowej pozycji inwestycyjnej Polski na tle wybranych krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej oraz krajów strefy euro.
