Opis:
Musicians in the orchestra pit often report problems with too high sound levels during performances. At the same time, numerous surveys indicate frequent problems with the mutual hearing of musicians with each other, as well as themselves or a singer from the stage. The structure of the orchestra pit causes the musicians to be exposed to strong reflections with low delay, which increases the overall sound pressure level. In the literature, one can find recommendations that the space of the orchestra pit should be treated with sound absorbing materials in a wide range and with sound-scattering materials without indicating their quantity or localization. This paper focuses on the development of tools for assessing and predicting the value of energetic parameters such as sound strength G or clarity C80 in the orchestra pit based on its acoustic absorption and the volume of the hall. The sound propagation model in concert halls proposed by Barron and Lee was adapted for this purpose. The sound strength G can be used to predict the acoustic conditions in the orchestra pit, such as the sound pressure level, the mutual audibility of the musicians, and how the room supports playing musicians. The analysis covers several existing halls of different geometry and size, as well as the design of the barrier of the orchestra pit with the proposed modifications.

Opis:
The orchestra pit is not a friendly workplace for musicians, and the need to ensure their interaction with the stage and audience places very high demands on this interior. The aim of the considerations presented in the article was to analyse the various possibilities of acoustic adaptation of the orchestra pit against the background of obtaining the expected effects. The conducted simulation studies and the use of the results of the experimental studies carried out in the well-equipped orchestra pit of the Krakow Opera allowed for the indication of representative acoustic parameters useful for the assessment of the results of acoustic treatment. Based on the comparison of the reverberation time T20 and EDT for various variants of the orchestra pit interior, the confirmation of the legitimacy of using sound diffusing and absorbing systems was obtained. They spread the energy of the first sound reflections in time and reduce the risk to the musicians' hearing. Reflective elements and sound dispersing within the orchestral will ensure adequate audibility between the musicians.

Opis:
The article presents an idea how to increase the room acoustic absorption without significantly interfering with its appearance and architectural character. Based on scale model tests, analytical calculations and computer simulations, it has been shown that a noticeable reduction of room reverberation time and improvement of speech transmission index can be achieved by installing additional absorbing systems on selected furniture surfaces. By selecting the appropriate design and location of such systems, the functionality and appearance of the modified furniture can be maintained.
