    W artykule podjęta zostaje kwestia wykorzystania idei praw człowieka we współczesnych sporach na temat praw mniejszości seksualnych. W pierwszej części zostają przypomniane filozoficzne fundamenty, na których zasadza się idea praw człowieka. Podkreślony jest związek pomiędzy prawami jednostki a moralnymi obowiązkami. W części drugiej analizowane są treści i przesłanie, które zawiera w sobie Rezolucja Parlamentu Europejskiego w sprawie ogłoszenia UE strefą wolności osób LGBTIQ z 11 marca 2021 roku. W ocenie autora dokument ten może stanowić przykład instrumentalnego wykorzystania idei praw człowieka, co grodzi zachwianiem pozycji tego swoistego „monumentu”, który w europejskiej i światowej kulturze oraz praktyce politycznej odgrywa niezwykle istotną rolę.
    The article addresses the issue of the usage of the idea of human rights in contemporary disputes on the rights of sexual minorities. In the first part, the philosophical foundations on which the idea of human rights is based are recalled. The connection between rights of human being and his moral duties is underlined. The second part analyzes the content and message contained in the Resolution of the European Parliament on declaring the EU a zone of freedom for LGBTIQ persons of 11.03.2021. In the author’s opinion, this document may be an example of instrumental use of the idea of human rights, which threatens to undermine the position of this peculiar “monument,” which plays an extremely important role in European and world culture and political practice.

    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie tego, jak wielkie znaczenie idea sprawiedliwości odgrywa w życiu społecznym i politycznym. W pierwszej jego części zostaje zarysowana historia sprawiedliwości począwszy od tradycji greckiej („Państwo” Platona), poprzez chrześcijaństwo (w ujęciu encykliki „Bóg jest miłością” Benedykta XVI) aż do współczesnej teorii sprawiedliwości J. Rawlsa, której zasady (m.in. wyrównywania szans, redystrybucji dochodów) stały się swoistym modelem dla wielu współcześnie funkcjonujących państw. W części drugiej spróbujemy spojrzeć na polską transformację ustrojową po 1989 roku przez pryzmat twierdzenia Rawlsa, że wszelkie instytucje i mechanizmy regulujące życie politycznej wspólnoty, niezależnie od tego jak były nowatorskie i doskonałe, muszą zostać w dłuższym dystansie zakwestionowane, jeżeli nie spełniają elementarnego wymogu sprawiedliwości. Postawimy tezę, że program „Prawa i Sprawiedliwości” w 2015 roku odpowiadał trafnie na niespełnioną potrzebę sprawiedliwości w polskim społeczeństwie, co było źródłem sukcesu wyborczego i poparcia społecznego dla rządu w kolejnych trzech latach. W zakończeniu wskażemy jednak także na niebezpieczeństwa, które związane są z nadmiernym rozrostem rządowych programów społecznych. Przypomnimy za F. von Hayekiem, że dążenie do równości ekonomicznej stanowi śmiertelne zagrożenie dla wolności.
    The aim of the paper is to show a role of an idea of justice in social and political life. In the first part the Author describes the history of justice beginning with the Greek tradition (Platon’s State), through Christianity (as described in encyclical “God is love” by Benedykt XVI) till the modern theory of justice by J. Rawls, the rules of which (e.g. equality of chances, income redistribution) constitute a model for many modern states. In the second part an attempt to interpret the Polish political transformation after 1989 year is done, considering the Rawls’ claim that all institutions and mechanisms regulating a life of political community, independently of their modernity and excellence, must be put to the question in a long term if they do not fulfill the basic condition of justice. The Author proposes a thesis that the program of “Prawo i Sprawiedliwość” political party in 2015 year met the unfulfilled need for justice in Polish society and it was a source of the electoral success and social support for the government in the following three years. Nevertheless, some dangers connected with an excessive growth of the governmental social programs are indicated in the final part. It is reminded, on the basis of Hayek statement, that striving for economic equity creates a fatal threat for freedom.

    In the history of European civilisation there have been several documents of particular cultural weight and symbolic meaning. From Magna Carta Libertatum of 1215 to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from 1948 we can trace the development of political ideas which, while being rooted in religious and philosophical thought, have had a strong impact on the lives of whole societies. In this article I attempt to look at the famous 21 Gdańsk demands from that perspective. The document, signed in August 1980 kindled a peace process which culminated in the collapse of communism in Europe. I would like to infer a relation between the possibility of signing such a document and the election of Karol Wojtyła as Pope. It also seemed interesting to compare the content of the 21 Gdańsk Agreement with that of the less well-known Rzeszów-Ustrzyki Dolne Protocol signed several months later.

    Opis:
    Among all sorts of technological and cultural breakthroughs affecting our civilisation which we have witnessed over the last few decades, the changes regarding the most intimate spheres of human nature, those of sexuality, may have passed unnoticed. A series of changes in social norms triggered after 1968 resulted in a situation which, as far as sexuality is concerned, can be described as a real „controversy over human existence”. This paper will briefly outline some of the characteristics of the social changes that have occurred over the past fifty years and which have had a significant impact on the understanding of the nature of sexuality. Then, two apparently competing visions of man, the traditional and the modernist will be compared. As far as the traditional concept is concerned, reference will be made to the teachings of John Paul II. The modernist approach will be illustrated based on the „Standards for Sexuality Education in Europa” formulated by the World Health Organisation. The objective is not to settle the dispute, but to try and highlight its substance as well as the consequences arising from adopting one or the other of the proposed approaches.

    This article briefly discusses the relationship between life and death. Understanding of this relationship has changed over the centuries, but this article focuses primarily on contemporary issues. The analysis makes reference to the texts of Max Scheler and Arthur Schopenhauer, as well as to the poetry of Rilke. This indicates that a human being should accept the necessity of death.     The problem of freedom of speech caught the attention of thinkers from the very beginnings of our civilization, but it was only in the modern age that it became a central issue both in theoretical philosophy and in social practices that aimed at organizing a rational political community. Freedom of speech is not only a matter of the individual’s private right, but also one of the fundamental conditions for the proper functioning of the public sphere. Secondly, the space of mutual communication has gone through the last decades and we are still experiencing extremely dynamic changes before our eyes – we live in the proverbial “global village” in a total network where the possibilities of accessing information, storing it, analyzing and exchanging views with others seem unlimited. However, parallel to these possibilities, extremely real threats appear: the danger of being manipulated by entities that are difficult to identify, as well as the phenomenon of excessive “crowds of information” and the inability to practically distinguish the fact from the appearance, the essential from the banality. The aim of the article is the author’s presentation of the idea of freedom of speech present in the scientific literature and the presentation of one case study that eludes standard public behavior.
    Problem wolności słowa zwracał uwagę myślicieli od samego początku naszej cywilizacji, ale dopiero we współczesnym wieku stał się centralnym zagadnieniem zarówno w filozofii teoretycznej, jak i praktykach społecznych, które miały na celu organizowanie racjonalnej wspólnoty politycznej. Wolność słowa jest nie tylko kwestią prywatnego prawa jednostki, ale także jednym z podstawowych warunków prawidłowego funkcjonowania sfery publicznej. Po drugie, przestrzeń wzajemnej komunikacji przeszła przez ostatnie dziesięciolecia znaczące zmiany, których wciąż doświadczamy. Współczesny odbiorca mediów żyje w McLuhanowskiej „globalnej wiosce”, w której możliwości dostępu do informacji, przechowywania ich, analizowania i wymiany wydają się nieograniczone. Jednak równolegle do tych możliwości pojawiają się niezwykle realne zagrożenia: niebezpieczeństwo manipulacji przez trudne do zidentyfikowania podmioty medialne, a także zjawisko nadmiernych „szumów informacyjnych” oraz niemożność odróżnienia tego faktu od kreacji informacyjnej. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja idei wolności słowa w ujęciu teoretycznym oraz prezentacja jednego studium przypadku, które wymyka się standardowym zachowaniom medialnym.
