Opis:
Globalization processes and internationalization of business activities have an impact on management issues. Conducting business activity in the supra-national dimension forces the need for a different view of perceiving a number of phenomena. These issues are strongly emphasized by the authors in their article. They emphasize not only the complexity of the process of making managerial decisions, but also the need, even the necessity, of continuous improvement of competences by persons holding managerial functions. The study emphasizes the necessity of analysing the environment, as well as forecasting the development of the situation, especially in the longer term. In the presented description, the authors go beyond the conventional description, adding new issues and threads, emphasizing in particular the growing role of human capital in managing organizations, and - which has not been clearly emphasized - their deliberations focus on the European economic area.

Opis:
With the rapid development of the marine economy and continuous improvement of the industry, the scale of the offshore engineering is increasing. This raises interest in studying, theoretically and experimentally, gripping and bearing mechanisms for large-scale holding and lifting tools used in foundation pile installations. In this paper, the embedded gripping mechanism is studied based on the theory of elastic-plastic mechanics. The embedded and bearing performance of the tooth is simulated and the influence factors are studied. In addition, the device used in the simplified embedded experiment on the tooth of the embedded block is designed. The relationship between embedded depth, load, and tooth profile angle is identified and validated. Meanwhile, the embedded performance of linear and ring type teeth is compared experimentally in order to select the suitable type of tooth for various situations. This comparison makes the basis for designing an upending gripper for the marine pile foundation, which can realize the operation of holding the pile to prevent its falling.

Opis:
In recent years, some expressway tunnels have started broadcasting warning sounds, such as fire alarms, to improve driver attention and traffic safety. However, there is few research on it, and in contrast to previous studies, we have considered different evaluation indices and through field measurement to determine the effectiveness of this practice. The characteristics of three warning sound signals, i.e., fire alarm, dynamic music, and voice command, in a tunnel were analyzed using MATLAB. Considering pupil diameter and blink duration as evaluation indexes, the change in the mental state of the driver after hearing a warning sound was analyzed. Based on Markov chain theory, the change in the gaze region and gaze shift of the driver under the condition of a warning sound was analyzed. Results shows fire alarms and voice commands can increase the mental load of drivers, but the degree of impact was not determined. Dynamic music does not affect the mental load of the driver. The fire alarm and dynamic music attracted the attention of the driver; conversely, as the voice command warns the driver to focus on safety, it did not impact the attention of the driver. The research results provide a scientific reference for the selection of warning sounds in expressway tunnels and new research ideas for the prevention of traffic injuries in expressway tunnels.

Opis:
Vibrio vulnificus is a virulent human pathogen causing gastroenteritis and possibly life threatening septicemia in patients. Most V. vulnificus are catalase positive and can deactivate peroxides, thus allowing them to survive within the host. In the study presented here, a catalase from V. vulnificus (CAT-Vv) was purified to homogeneity after expression in Escherichia coli. The kinetics and function of CAT-Vv were examined. CAT-Vv catalyzed the reduction of H2O2 at an optimal pH of 7.5 and temperature of 35°C. The Vmax and Km values were 65.8±1.2 U/mg and 10.5±0.7 mM for H2O2, respectively. Mutational analysis suggests that amino acids involved in heme binding play a key role in the catalysis. Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR revealed that in V. vulnificus, transcription of CAT-Vv was upregulated by low salinity, heat, and oxidative stresses. This research gives new clues to help inhibit the growth of, and infection by V. vulnificus.

Opis:
This paper designs a five-port transmission grating under normal incidence. Rigorous coupled-wave approach is used to optimize the grating parameters. The energy of the grating is mainly dispersed to the 0th, ±1st and ±2nd orders. The efficiency of each diffraction order under both polarizations is close to 20%. The modal method is used to describe the propagation mechanism of the two polarized lights in the grating, and the diffraction behavior of the grating is analyzed. In addition, the grating has a wide range of incident characteristics and a large process tolerance. Therefore, this five-port beam splitter with a connecting layer will be a good polarization-independent beam splitting device.

In order to explore the optimal route choice for emergency evacuation in the campus, we propose a novel route choice method based on brittle characteristics of campus system and improved ant colony algorithm. Both optimal and worst-case emergency evacuation routes are simulated in the campus of Ningbo University of Technology. From the simulation, the length of optimal and worse-case evacuation routes between the starting point and eight exits can be obtained by adjusting the importance value of trip distance and the degree of conformity, under the condition of static relative importance of pheromone concentration to graph G. The optimal route of emergency evacuation in the campus can be obtained when the importance of trip distance is above 5 and the degree of conformity is above 0.3; while the worse-case route is obtained with the importance of trip distance above 5 and the degree of conformity below 0.5.

In the reliability analysis of a sealing structure, radial clearance of the contact surface is usually regarded as a failure criterion, and the sample size is usually quite small, which brings great challenges to uncertainty quantification. Therefore, this paper proposes a reliability analysis method based on the leakage mechanism of the sealing. With the application of dynamic interval, the proposed method can be used to deal with problem of degradation in small sample to evaluate reliability. Moreover, the dynamic reliability with the mixture of the probabilistic and non-probabilistic variables can be obtained using the proposed method. An illustrative numerical case study of a spool valve is conducted in order to validate the proposed method and the implemented reliability sensitivity analysis. The proposed method is of great help in evaluating and predicting reliability with small degradation sample and hybrid uncertainties.

Opis:
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most severe traumatic injuries that results in dysfunction of limbs and trunk below the damaged section. Recent studies have shown that gastrodin (GAS) could improve the recovery of SCI. In the current study, we aimed to examine the possible mechanism underlying the effect of GAS on recovery of SCI in rats. In rats with SCI, GAS improved locomotor functions and decreased permeability of blood-spinal cord barrier, as illustrated by increase of Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan scores and decrease of Evans blue leakage. In addition, GAS inhibited inflammation, as evidenced by decrease of proinflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β) in rats following SCI. Moreover, increase of TBARS content and decrease of glutathione (GSH) content and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in SCI rats were inhibited by GAS. Furthermore, GAS enhanced mRNA expression of nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2), catalytic subunit of γ-glutamylcysteine ligase (GCLc) and modified subunit of γ-glutamylcysteine ligase (GCLm). The data suggested that GAS may promote the recovery of SCI through the enhancement of Nrf2-GCLc/GCLm signaling pathway, and subsequent improvement of oxidative stress and inflammation, resulting in decrease of permeability of BSCB and improved recovery of locomotor function in rats with SCI. The results have provided novel insights into GAS-related therapy of SCI and associated neurodegenerative diseases.

Sound joint of hollow-extruded 6005A-T6 aluminum alloy was achieved by friction stir welding and its high cycle fatigue performance was mainly investigated. As a result, the joint fatigue limit reaches 128.1 MPa which is 55% of the joint tensile strength. The fatigue fracture mainly occurs at the boundary between the stir zone and thermo-mechanically affected zone due to the large difference in the grain size. This difference is caused by the layered microstructure of the base material. The shell pattern with parallel arcs is the typical morphology in the fracture surface and the distance between arcs is increased with the increase of stress level. The specimen with the fracture located in the stir zone possesses a relatively low fatigue life.

The purpose of using a mixed collector is to increase both flotation efficiency and selectivity. The mixed collector of potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate and N-dodecyl mercaptan exhibits high efficiency for the flotation of auriferous arsenopyrite, and the 2:1 mixing mass ratio of potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate and N-dodecyl mercaptan is preferred. Batch flotation tests indicate that a concentrate with the grade of 47.58 g/Mg Au and the recovery of 86.45% Au is achieved by using the mixed potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate/N-dodecyl mercaptan in weakly alkaline pulp. The collector mixture potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate + N-dodecyl mercaptan has greater adsorption density on the arsenopyrite surface than other conventional mixed collectors. The mixed potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate/N-dodecyl mercaptan can adsorb onto the arsenopyrite surface by intense chemisorptions, and the Sulfur-Iron chemical complexation is considered as the main adsorption mode. This is the reason why mixed potassium isopentyldithiocarbonate and N-dodecyl mercaptan collector can improve the flotation efficiency of auriferous sulfides.

Stability studies of the formulations of CAR solid dispersions were analyzed at 300C/65%RH for a period of three months. A simple reverse phase HPLC was developed and validated for the quantification of CAR solid dispersions. Chromatographic separation was achieved on Waters Atlantis dC18 (4.6 X 150mm) column with a mobile phase consisting of 0.033M phosphate buffer and methanol (35:65). The mobile phase was filtered using an organic filter paper and sonicated for about 20 min. The flow rate was 1ml/min and 242nm wavelength was used for detection. Force degradation studies were conducted under three conditions namely; acidic, basic and hydroxide peroxide conditions. With the HPLC linearity concentration was in the range of 5-80μg/ml with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9995. There was no interference with drug carriers. The suggested reverse phase HPLC methodology is simple, selective, linear and robust in quantifying the amount of CAR in the various solid dispersion samples. In hydrogen peroxide a degraded product was found on the chromatogram unlike that of the acidic and basic conditions. Degradation occurred more strongly in the acidic condition than in the basic condition. The binary systems were less stable than the ternary system solid dispersions due to the presence of HP-β-CD.

Opis:
The issue of controlling a swarm of autonomous unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) in a practical maritime environment is studied in this paper. A hierarchical control framework associated with control algorithms for the USV swarm is proposed. In order to implement the distributed control of the autonomous swarm, the control framework is divided into three task layers. The first layer is the tele-operated task layer, which delivers the human operator’s command to the remote USV swarm. The second layer deals with autonomous tasks (i.e. swarm dispersion, or avoidance of obstacles and/or inner-USV collisions), which are defined by specific mathematical functions. The third layer is the control allocation layer, in which the control inputs are designed by applying the sliding mode control method. The motion controller is proved asymptotically stable by using the Lyapunov method. Numerical simulation of USV swarm motion is used to verify the effectiveness of the control framework.
