    Anxiety-trait, emotional reactivity and superstitiousness of primary school pupilsThe aim of the research was to find relationship between anxiety-trait, emotional reactivity and superstitiousness. There were 75 six-class pupils chosen as research participants (33 girls and 42 boys) recruited from one of primary schools near Warsaw. Statistical analysis show statistically significant positive correlation between anxiety-trait and superstitiousness (r = 0,33;p<0,01)andnearly statistically significant positive correlation between emotional reactivity and superstitions (r = 0,22; p < 0,06). In result of the research it also turned out that as far as superstitions arę concerned, there arę gender differences: girls arę morę superstitious thanboys (F = 23,81 (1; 73); p < 0,001).

    The purpose of the research was to present one of the manifestations of magical thinking in late childhood, i.e. belief in the causative power of words, and relations between this phenomenon and language. One hundred and three primary school students (43 girls and 60 boys), grades 4 to 6, aged 10 to 13 were studied. A significant relation was found between belief in the direct effect of words on reality, and correct comprehension and number of phraseological units concerning the causative power of words.

    The article aims to explain how controlling influences an organisation as a whole, considering the job performance of employees and managers. It describes the development and verification of the Controlling Effectiveness Model, which characterises the impact, the place of each variable and the direction of each relationship in the effort to shape organisational performance. The hypothesis was verified with the help of empirical research, which was conducted with 264 organisations operating in Poland. The survey took place in October 2019. The authors of the article used the CAWI method. Efforts had been made to ensure a diversified research sample encompassing various organisational characteristics. The exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and the sequentially mediated regression model were used to verify the hypothesis. The empirical research allowed confirming a statistically significant indirect impact of the quality of controlling on organisational performance. This relationship depends on the job performance of managers and employees. The analysis of the impact made by controlling on the job performance of employees and managers as we as the organisational performance resulted in a mediation model (the Controlling Effectiveness Model) and confirmed the effect of controlling on organisational performance through the impact on job performance of managers and employees. The article has practical implications. The organisations that decide to implement controlling should focus on the quality of this management support method. It is not enough to simply implement controlling as organisations need to ensure the correct implementation. In this context, it is also relevant to properly shape functional, organisational and instrumental controlling solutions (tailored to the characteristics of the organisation as a whole, as well as to the environmental conditions, under which the organisation operates), which determine the quality of controlling.

    The purpose of the article is to provide knowledge on the similarities and differences in the use of controlling in organizations operating in Poland, Switzerland and the USA along with the main conditions of this use. This comparison in the indicated countries – so far not undertaken in the presented scope in the literature – is justified because controlling has not only a different history there, but also various solutions. The hypotheses formulated for the purpose of achieving the indicated goal were empirically verified on a sample of 2829 organizations: 1683 operating in Poland, 899 in Switzerland and 247 in the USA. Statistical analysis methods were used, including correlation analysis as well as a one-way analysis of variance and t-student analysis and χ2 test analysis. The presented results of the empirical research allow to show similarities and differences in the use of controlling in organizations functioning in the three examined contexts.
    Celem artykułu jest dostarczenie wiedzy na temat podobieństw i różnic w stosowaniu controllingu w organizacjach funkcjonujących w Polsce, Szwajcarii i USA wraz z głównymi uwarunkowaniami tego stosowania. Porównanie to we wskazanych krajach – jak dotąd niepodjęte w prezentowanym zakresie w literaturze przedmiotu – jest zasadne, gdyż controlling ma tam nie tylko odmienną historię, ale także wykształcone różne rozwiązania. Sformułowane na potrzeby osiągnięcia wskazanego celu hipotezy zostały empirycznie zweryfikowane na próbie 2829 organizacji: 1683 funkcjonujących w Polsce, 899 w Szwajcarii i 247 w USA. Zastosowano metody analizy statystycznej, w tym m.in. analizę korelacji, a także jednoczynnikową analizę wariancji oraz analizy t-studenta i analizę testem χ2. Zaprezentowane wyniki badań empirycznych pozwalają na pokazanie podobieństw i różnic w stosowaniu controllingu w organizacjach funkcjonujących w trzech badanych kontekstach.

    Opis:
    Job performance is an extremely complex factor affecting organisational performance. The literature recognises factors impacting job performance positively and negatively. This article aims to verify the turnover-mitigating effect on the relationship between servant leadership and job performance. The developed moderated mediation model is empirically verified based on the data collected from 263 managers working in Poland’s for-profit organisations. The results were analysed using Macro for IBM SPSS Statistics. It has been shown that employee turnover is a mediator in the job performance model based on turnover-mitigating servant leadership. Additionally, the influence of employees’ dynamic capabilities has been analysed. The study revealed the significance of servant leadership in influencing job performance and the disruptive relationship between employee turnover and the impact of employees’ dynamic capabilities in reducing employee turnover. This research provides practical implications for managers and organisations regarding selecting the right leadership style to improve employee job performance.

    The paper aims to verify the Job Performance Model based on Employees’ Dynamic Capabilities (EDC) and explain the mechanisms shaping job performance based on EDC in an initial phase of the crisis in an organisation due to the Black Swan phenomena, on the example of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. Empirical research on Italian organisations affected by the crisis shows that the Model is significantly distorted under such conditions. To verify the internal structure of the Job Performance Model based on EDC under critical conditions, the statistical correlation analysis, linear regression analysis and path analysis were executed using SPSS and SPSS AMOS. The research result of the statistical analysis confirmed that the new version of the Model for organisations under the Black Swan phenomenon was statistically significant without work motivation and job satisfaction. It was also proven that P–J fit still linked EDC and job performance through strengthening work engagement. The research confirmed that the Job Performance Model based on EDC, which has so far been verified under normal working conditions, radically changed its structure during the COVID-19 crisis. This means that factors previously considered important in the Job Performance Model based on EDC have become insignificant in shaping job performance. Therefore, this is an inspiration for further research to verify the Job Performance Model based on EDC in different phases of the crisis.

    Celem artykułu jest prezentacja wyników badań w zakresie funkcji koordynacyjnej controllingu strategicznego, stosowanych w praktyce organizacji działających w Polsce. Na tle charakterystyki szczegółowych zagadnień dotyczących funkcji koordynacyjnej controllingu strategicznego zaprezentowano wyniki badań odniesionych do tych zagadnień. Obejmują one wyszczególnienie stosowanych w praktyce badanych organizacji funkcji controllingu strategicznego, zakresu zadań w ramach funkcji koordynacyjnej rozpatrywanego controllingu i sposobu realizacji tej funkcji. Wyniki przedstawiono w ujęciu ogólnym oraz z uwzględnieniem najistotniejszych kryteriów je różnicujących – wielkości organizacji i typu otoczenia.

    W artykule przedstawiono trudności w codziennym funkcjonowaniu związane z uszkodzeniem słuchu u osób w wieku senioralnym. W pierwszej części omówiona została epidemiologia, przyczyny oraz trudności w funkcjonowaniu psychospołecznym starszych osób, które tracą słuch. Następnie zwrócono uwagę na rolę wsparcia informacyjnego, jakiego udzielić mogą członkowie najbliższej rodziny, pracownicy służby zdrowia i/lub pracownicy socjalni. Jako kolejne, przedstawiono ogólne zasady postępowania, dzięki którym udzielanie skutecznej pomocy osobie z uszkodzeniem słuchu staje się łatwiejsze. Ostatnim elementem pracy jest opracowanie wytycznych – ścieżki postępowania oraz sposobów wsparcia komunikacji ze starszą osobą z uszkodzeniem słuchu, które mogą ułatwić działania podejmowane przez pracowników socjalnych, opiekunów w DPS, opiekunki środowiskowe, opiekunów osoby starszej, opiekuna medycznego, asystenta rodziny.

    The object and aim of the undertaken surveys was to assess the modifying impact of a child’s language development (independent variable) on selected areas of their mother’s functioning-the appearance of symptoms of depression, and concentration on the child’s disability (dependent variable). Surveys in a group of the same 30 dyads (mother-child) connected with the Association of Family and Friends of Children with Hearing Impairment in Krosno were conducted in 2007 and repeated after 9 years. Analysis of the test data (n=60) confirmed the hypothesis that the appearance of symptoms of depression in mothers is less frequent and a mother’s perception of a child’s hearing impairment as burdensome decreases alongside the development of a child’s language competence. The article is critical of the results of surveys conducted by other researchers. The authors also analyse other factors, including the Universal Neonatal Hearing Screening Programme, place of residence, quality of specialist treatment and therapy, and the passage of time, which may influence change in the functioning of mothers of children with hearing impairment.

    The article will present difficulties in everyday functioning related to hearing damage in people of senior age. The first part discusses epidemiology, causes and difficulties in the psychosocial functioning of older people who lose their hearing. Next, attention was paid to the role of information support that can be given by immediate family members, health care workers and/or social workers. Next, general rules of conduct are presented, thanks to which it will be easier to provide effective assistance to a person with hearing impairment. The final element of the work is to develop guidelines for the management and communication of an elderly person with hearing impairment.

    This article presents the results of research carried out to assess the potential non-auditory causes of articulation defects in deaf children. Who was tested were twenty people with hearing impairment between the ages of eleven and seventeen, whose functional hearing is 40 dB on average, as assessed on the basis of tonal audiometry in a free sound field. The study involved a questionnaire assessing the structure of the articulation apparatus, a questionnaire assessing the fitness and muscle tone of the articulation apparatus, and a questionnaire assessing functions (physiological functions) within the articulation apparatus. The obtained results point to the need for an in-depth diagnosis of articulation and its condition among deaf patients, the determination of pathomechanisms of sound disturbances in the assessed speech, and the inclusion of broadly understood preventive mechanisms derived from logopaedics in the therapeutic process.

    Większość dzieci z niedosłuchem dzięki programom przesiewowych badań słuchu, wczesnemu aparatowaniu oraz wczesnej interwencji terapeutycznej rozwija mowę tak dobrze, że uczestniczy w zajęciach przedszkolnych w grupach słyszących rówieśników. Zajęcia te często odbywają się w niekorzystnych warunkach akustycznych. W badaniu przeprowadzonym na grupie 25 dzieci z wadą słuchu w wieku 3–8 lat (śr. 5,9) – użytkowników implantu ślimakowego – sprawdzono skuteczność zastosowania dodatkowych akcesoriów wspomagających słyszenie (minimikrofonów bezprzewodowych) w terapii i edukacji. Uzyskano wyniki potwierdzające pozytywny wpływ użycia urządzenia dodatkowo wspomagającego słyszenie w zakresie reakcji na dźwięk, lokalizacji oraz jakości słyszenia.
    The majority of children with hearing loss, thanks to screening programs, early fitting with hearing aids, and early therapeutic interventions, develop speech well enough to attend preschool along with their hearing peers. These preschool programs often take place in adverse acoustic conditions. In a study conducted on 25 children with hearing impairments aged 3 to 8 years (mean 5.9) – cochlear implant users – the therapeutic and educational effectiveness of the use of an additional hearing assistive device (mini wireless microphone) was tested. The results obtained confirmed the positive impact of the use of the device in additionally aiding hearing abilities in the areas of response to sound, sound localization, and quality of hearing.
