Opis:
The protein encoded by the IRR1/SCC3 gene is an element of the cohesin complex of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, responsible for establishing and maintaining sister chromatid cohesion during mitotic cell division. We noticed previously that lowering the level of expression of IRR1/SCC3 affects colony formation on solid support. Here we describe two dosage suppressors (IST2, NOG2) overcoming the inability to form colonies of an Irr1p-deficient strain. Ist2 is probably involved in osmotolerance, Nog2p is a putative GTPase required for 60S ribosomal subunit maturation, but may also participate in mRNA splicing.

Opis:
The Saccharomyces cerevisiae spindle pole body (SPB) consists of numerous proteins forming the outer, inner and central plaques. The protein Cnm67 is an important component of the outer plaque. The C-terminus of this protein contains a determinant important for its SPB localization. We identified a protein encoded by YOR129c which interacts with this C-terminus in the two-hybrid system. YOR129c and CNM67 exhibit weak genetic interaction. The double deletion strain yor129cΔ cnm67Δ exhibits moderately increased resistance to 0.1 M LiCl and hygromycin B compared with the cnm67Δ single mutant. We propose that the YOR129c protein is an accessory factor associated with the cytoplasmic face of SPB and plays a role in cation homeostasis and/or multidrug resistance.

Opis:
The aim of the present work was the preparation and properties evaluation of two innovative fertilizers based on multicomponent polymers characterized by a controlled release of nutrients. One method was based on a multi-component liquid containing different amounts of microelements NPK 12-5-6 fertilizers with polyacrylamide hydrogel beads. The second method concerned the cross-linking of biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol with multi-component NPK fertilizers. Polyacrylamide-based compositions with the highest amount of NPK salts as well as polyvinyl alcohol-based fertilizers in dense gel form, based on 60 phr crosslinking concentrate have shown optimal properties. Regardless of the type of fertilizers used, their components were released slowly. The obtained fertilizers were classifi ed according to the kinetics of nutrient release. Fertilizers made from polyacrylamide based fertilizers have been classifi ed into a group of controlled release fertilizers (CRF), while those made from biodegradable environmentally friendly polyvinyl alcohol have been defi ned as slow released fertilizers (SRF).

Opis:
We cloned and sequenced the cspA-like gene from a psychrotrophic Antarctic soil-dwelling bacterial strain Psychrobacter sp. B6. The gene is 213 bp long and shows 99% and 98% sequence identity with the Psychrobacter cryohalolentis K5 gene encoding a cold-shock DNA-binding domain protein and the Psychrobacter arcticus transcriptional regulator-CspA gene, respectively. The protein encoded by the Psychrobacter sp. B6 cspA-like gene shows 100% identity with the two proteins mentioned above, and also 61% sequence identity with CspB from Bacillus subtilis and Csp from Bacillus caldolyticus, and 56% - with Escherichia coli CspA protein. A three-dimensional model of the CspA-like protein from Psychrobacter sp. B6 was generated based on three known structures of cold shock proteins: the crystal structure of the major cold shock protein from Escherichia coli (CspA), the NMR structure of the latter protein, and the NMR structure of Csp from Thermotoga maritima. The deduced structure of the CspA-like protein from Psychrobacter sp. B6 was found to be very similar to these known structures of Csp-like proteins.
