    This article presents the issue of linguistic policy and the attitude of educational authorities towards dialects from the point of view of the multi-lingual and multiculture Italian society. Due to specific historical conditions the linguistic situation in Italy is characterized by a high degree of heterogeneity -numerous dialects exist alongside the national language. After the period of the political unity of Italy in 1861 the educational authorities have had to tackle two problems: the necessity of having to choose a linguistic norm and also mutual relations between the language and the dialects. Those issues were and still are highly controversial and are subject to heated polemics as the answer to the question of whether to accept dialects or eliminate them from school education has never been found.

    The aim of this article is to discuss the fundamental features and the main avenues of the development of the modern Italian language. A great many specialists express their concern over the excessive influence of the spoken language on the morphosyntactic structures of the written language, which is evidenced by, among other things, the use o f repetitions, pleonasms, a lack of discourse coherence as well as rampant use of ready-made expressions copied from the “jargon” used in politics, or the language used by publicists or by bureaucrats. Another problem which is raised by contemporary linguists is the relation between the national language and dialects. Researchers are not in agreement as to the extent to which the Italian language is spread among dialectophones and the mutual influence of these two codes. Finally, attention is drawn to trends in the contemporary Italian language.

    This paper is devoted to the problems of teaching Italian language at an advanced level in the context of the internal diversification of Italian language: diatopic variation, diastratic variation, diamesic variation, diaphasic variation. In the process of language acquisition the so called Variation Awareness plays a vital role. It allows the learner – aided by the teacher – to attain communicative competence in the broad sense of its meaning. In case of teaching at an advanced level, the emphasis must be put not only on the grammatical correctness, but also, and mainly, on the ability to properly relate the message to the context it appears in, moreover, the kind of message – oral or written – must be taken into account. In relation to the linguistic situation in contemporary Italy, it is also important to draw the attention of a learner to diatopic variations (linguistic regional variations) as well as diastratic ones (matching the message to the social status of the interlocutor ). In the final part of the article there are specific suggestions of how to make use of available sources, so as to enable a combination of theory and practice.

    Nel quadro del presente contributo ci si propone di trattare due argomenti in particolare:i fenomeni del cambio di codice (code-switching lingua/dialetto) nella conversazione e il problema della traducibilità in lingue diverse (polacco e francese) di sfumature contestuali determinate dal valore discorsivo e dalle funzioni pragmatiche dell’alternanza di codice lingua/dialetto presso la comunità verbale italiana. L’analisi che ci si propone di condurre consisterà nel paragonare le strategie adoperate da traduttori polacchi e francesi volte a trasferire nelle rispettive lingue peculiarità sociopragmatiche del discorso bilingue tipico della situazione italiana lingua cum dialectis.
    W artykule prowadzi się rozważania na temat stopnia przekładalności zjawiska przełączania kodów (język włoski/dialekt), a zwłaszcza jego funkcji dyskursywnych (por. Auer 2003), wykorzystywanych przez włoskich użytkowników języka w konwersacji potocznej. Jako materiał badawczy posłużyły trzy powieści A. Camillerego, w których Autor dokonuje zabiegu stylizacji literackiej na włoski język mówiony. Na podstawie przekładu na język polski i francuski wspomnianych powieści przeprowadza się analizę porównawczą technik translatorycznych zastosowanych przez poszczególnych tłumaczy w tych fragmentach tekstu, gdzie występuje zjawisko przełączania kodów.

    Język a dialekt w konwersacji Niniejszy artykuł jest poświęcony problematyce relacji między językiem a dialektem na gruncie analizy konwersacyjnej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zjawisk określanych w angielskich i amerykańskich badanich językoznawczych jako code-switching oraz code-mixing. Zazwyczaj zjawiska te pojawiają się w kontekście bilingwizmu lub dyglosji (cfr. Ferguson 1959), a więc gdy dochodzi do kontaktu między dwoma językami narodowymi. Tymczasem w obrębie włoskiej wspólnoty językowej kontakt międzyjęzykowy zachodzi pomiędzy językiem a dialektem, co stanowi interesujący punkt wyjścia do rozważań na temat określonych funkcji natury pragmalingwistycznej, jakie mogą być implikowane poprzez użycie obu kodów językowych w konkretnych sytuacjach komunikacyjnych.

    The phenomenon of “neodialettalità” is examined from to perspectives. Initially the term was used to describe works of Italian poets in vernacular languages. Such choice of language was a result of Italian poets’ protest in 1960s against gradual disappearance of vernacular languages and cultural traditions inherent to them. Currently the phenomenon of “neodialettalità” is a consequence of revolutionary sociocultural changes which took place over the last 30-40 years. Those changes did make Italian commonly used but at the cost of vernacular languages which for decades have been pushed to the margin and considered to be a symbol of backwardness or social degradation. It should come as no surprise then that those languages degenerated (or degraded, went through a crisis – author’s comment) and as a result cultural values inherent to them did too. Currently we can observe in Italian society a desire to partly resurrect those traditions though popularization of vernacular languages in many aspects of social life: in literature, advertising, graffiti, newspapers, websites etc. In this paper the author analyses novels of two authors from Apulia region whose works, both in terms of language and sociopragmatics, refer to the phenomenon of “neodialettalità”.

    This article describes certain fundamental issues relates to the current linguistic situation in Italy: the analysis of reciprocal relations between the national language and the Italian dialects (diglossia, bilinguism); the internal variants of Italian language depending on geographical location, social stratification, circumstances of the communication and the communication channels; the patterns of repertory proposed by famous linguists; some crucial problems concerning contemporary linguistic situation in Italy as: the importance of the diatopic variation; the recognition of the tension between Italian standard language derived from literary tradition and a new common form of the standard language; the recognition of the existence of a substandard variant - popular Italian.

    The objective of this analysis is a description of euphemism in the onomastics referring to a woman through the lexicology of erotica found in everyday circulation. The description is not merely confined to lexemes referring to a women but also contains words describing parts of her body, physiological functions and sexual activity. Sexuality belongs to those domain which constitute a basis for a linguistics ban, indubitably, repression too. Studies of language prove that linguistic denial is inseparably tied with and present in interhuman communication.
