Hydrogels are a unique class of macromolecular networks that can hold a large fraction of an aqueous solvent within their structure. They are suitable for biomedical area including controlled drug delivery and for technical applications as self-adhesive materials for bonding of wet surfaces. This paper describes photoreactive self-adhesive hydrogels based on acrylics crosslinked using UV radiation. They are prepared in ethyl acetate through radical polymerization of monomers mixture containing 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA), butyl acrylate (BA), acrylic acid (AA) and copolymerizable photoinitiator 4-acryloyloxy benzophenone (ABP) at presence of radical starter 2.2’-azobis-diisobutyronitrile AIBN. The synthesized acrylic copolymers were determined by viscosity and GPC analysis and later modified using ethoxylated amines. 4-acryloyloxy benzophenone (ABP) was used as crosslinking monomer. After UV crosslinking the properties of these novel synthesized hydrogels, such as tack, peel adhesion, shears strength, elongation and water adsorption were also studied.

Tradycyjna ekstrakcja w aparacie Soxhleta jest najczęstszą techniką używaną do izolowania związków naturalnych z materiałów biologicznych. Otrzymywanie amigdaliny również opiera się na ekstrakcji różnymi rozpuszczalnikami. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań usprawnionej ekstrakcji amigdaliny z zastosowaniem wody, 50% lub 96% alkoholu etylowego, a uzyskane wyniki porównano z ekstrakcją tradycyjną, w której stosuje się proste alkohole (w niniejszej pracy zastosowano bezwodny etanol).
The traditional extraction in the Soxhlet apparatus is the most common technique used for isolation of natural compounds from biological materials. The obtaining of amygdalin is also based on extraction with different solvents. The paper presents the results of an improved extraction of amygdalin with water, 98% and 50% ethanol and compared with traditional method, with methanol, isopropanol or anhydrous ethanol applied as a solvent for extraction.

The article presents the results of plastic shaping tests of AZ61 and WE43 alloys. There were both classic extrusion tests as well as extrusion tests of KOBO method. An assessment was made of the influence of extrusion process parameters on the mechanical properties and the structure of the alloys. On the basis of achieved results of mechanical properties for alloys AZ31 and WE43 the susceptibility of those alloys to plastic shaping was determined. Quantitative tests of structure assessment in case of alloys AZ61 and WE43 after extrusion with the use of KOBO method were conducted with the use of METILO program. It has been shown that extrusion AZ61,WE43 alloys method KOBO leads to considerable fragmentation of grains.

The article presents tests results of the influence of deformation methods on the microstructure and properties of alloy WE43. There were direct extrusion tests and extrusion with KoBo method performed. An assessment of the influence of the methods of deformation on the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the achieved rods from alloy WE43 was conducted. There was an analysis of microstructure carried out with the use of light and scanning microscopy techniques in the initial state and after plastic deformation. Static tensile test was conducted in temperature of 350°C at a speed of 0.0001 m·s-1 and microhardness measurements were performed of HV0.2. On the basis of the achieved mechanical tests results it was stated that in the temperature of 350°C for samples deformed with the use of KoBo method there was an effect of superplastic flow found. The value of elongation achieved was 250% which was 3 times higher than in case of classic extrusion (80%).

Opis:
The effect of the brewing and milling byproducts containing in the lambs diet on body weight growth, slaughter value and meat quality. The aim of the study was to evaluate the growth rate, slaughter value and meat quality characteristics of lambs fed of fresh brewer’s grain and by-product of the milling industry. Research was conducted on 45 Polish merino ram lambs, which were divided into three feeding groups and fattened to their slaughter weight of 40 kg (±2.0 kg). Lambs in control group were fed meadow hay, oat meal and steamed potatoes. In one of experimental group (WBG group) 35% of wet brewer’s grain was added to the feed. The second experimental group (BPM group) received 44% of by-product of the milling industry in the form of crushed grains of various cereal species. The obtained results indicated that the by-products of the brewing and milling industry used in nutrition on fattened lambs did not negatively affect the body weight growth and slaughter value. The application of these components also did not affect the quality of meat in respect to its chemical composition and physical characteristics. The brewer’s grain share in the ration increased the content important for human health monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids and the isomer C18:2 cis9, trans11 (CLA).

The paper presents the results of tests concerning the effect of the extrusion process in the complex strain state on the microstructure and properties of one of magnesium alloy with aluminium, zinc and manganese, designated AZ61. Due to its specific gravity, it is increasingly being used in the automotive and aerospace industries to reduce the weight of structural elements. As a result of plastic deformation processes, rods with a diameter of 8, 6 and 4 mm were obtained from AZ61 magnesium alloy. The microstructure analysis was performed using light and electron microscopy (STEM) techniques in the initial state and afterplastic deformation. Microstructure studies were supplemented with a quantitative analysis using the Metilo program. A number of stereological parameters were determined: average diameter of grain, shape factor. A static tensile test was carried out at 250ºC and 300ºC, at deformation rates of 0.01, 0.001 and 0.0001 m·s-1. Better plastic properties after deformation using KoBo methodwere obtained than with conventional extrusion.

The article presents the dynamic mechanical properties of two types of high manganese austenitic TWIP steels. The investigations were carried out for the wide range of strain rates from 10¯² s¯¹ up to 4×10³ s¯¹ using servo-hydraulic testing machine and split Hopkinson bar for the quasi-static and dynamic loading regime, respectively. The mechanical properties at different strain rates like yield strength and true stress were calculated out on the base of the results of impact tests. In the next step, the microstructure of the analyzed steels after different deformation rates were observed by scanning transmission electron microscopy technique in order to disclose a dislocation structures and mainly the TWIP effect. In the studies observed that with the strain rate increasing yield strength as well as true stress for 0.3 true strain increasing in both steels. The microstructure observations reveal the influence of strain rate on the structure evolution for analyzed steels.

Phase shifting transformers (PST) are new elements in the Polish power system. Their main task is to enable the transmission system operator to control the active power flows at the cross-border connection between the Polish and the German power systems. The paper presents the design characteristics of a 2-tank, 3-phase, symmetric phase shifting transformer (including key structural aspects) and the idea of its operation. A description of the structure of the automatic protection applied to this phase shifting transformer is included, with consideration of the measuring transducer locations and the protection criteria employed in the protection from the effects of high current short circuits.
Przesuwniki fazowe są nowym elementem polskiego systemu elektroenergetycznego. Ich podstawowym zadaniem jest umożliwienie operatorowi systemu przesyłowego sterowania przepływami mocy czynnej na połączeniu transgranicznym polskiego i niemieckiego systemu elektroenergetycznego. W artykule przedstawiono charakterystykę budowy 2-kadziowego, 3-fazowego, symetrycznego przesuwnika fazowego (z uwzględnieniem kluczowych aspektów konstrukcyjnych) oraz ideę jego działania. Zamieszczono opis struktury elektroenergetycznej automatyki zabezpieczeniowej stosowanej dla takiego przesuwnika fazowego, uwzględniając umiejscowienie przetworników pomiarowych oraz kryteria zabezpieczeniowe wykorzystywane w zabezpieczeniach służących do jego ochrony przed skutkami zwarć wielkoprądowych.

Solutions accepted in world scenarios of energy development until 2030 have been presented in the paper and compared with the principles of "The Polish Energy Policy until 2030". Indicators characterizing production of electric energy from coal in Poland in 2005-2009 and resulting synthetic relationships have been given. Strategic brown coal reserves in Legnica and Gubin region have been discussed and their main parameters have been compared. Development of coal processing technology and electric energy production has been indicated.

The recent decade brought about new dimensions to materials developments; stimuliresponse materials capable of responding to internal or external stimuli. The ability of materials to autonomously self-heal is the most promising property [1]. The number of publications that appeared in the past decade concerning the self-repair of polymeric materials is quite extensive. They cover different fields of research, including thermoplastic and thermoset polymers, polymer composites, and coatings. The first ideas already started to develop in the 1990s, when scientists started to look at nature to solve the recurring problem of damage to materials [2]. The process of implementing a strategy of autorepair of a damage is a subject of increasing interest. One of the challenges for many of the already developed self- -repairing systems is to enhance the structural stability and mechanical properties of the materials. The first developed self-healing materials relied on microencapsulated healing agents within the bulk polymer [3]. Upon mechanical stress, the microcapsules were ruptured releasing agents that reacted with the catalyst in the polymer matrix to repair the damage [4–5]. Among many other crosslinking methods relying mainly on epoxy chemistry, ‘click’-based chemistry, the use of thiolene-based systems, as well as catalytic crosslinking reactions based on ring opening metathesis polymerization have found wide application in materials science. In the latter methodology, the catalyst present inside the matrix then promotes an autorepair reaction via ROMP. Thermosetting autorepair polymers which have been proposed so far include Grubbs’ first-generation catalyst; currently, the possibility of applying other ruthenium catalysts such as second-generation Grubbs’ catalyst and Hoveyda–Grubbs’ second-generation catalyst are under evaluation [3]. In addition to the aforementioned methods, you can also find self-healing coatings in the reaction of Diels-Alder. The self-healing concept envisages a similar recovery of material properties, such as fracture toughness, corrosion resistance, or conductivity, to improve the durability and reliability of the polymer materials. Damage due to impact, wear or fatigue initiates a healing mechanism that preferentially without external stimulus can recover any functionality. Researchers working in the field of self-healing polymeric materials mainly focus on high-end applications where the added value outweighs the cost of production. Such applications can, for example, be found in the transport sector, electronics, and structural materials. Car coatings, structural composites in airplanes, conductive polymers in sensors are only some examples of many targeted applications. Repair of damage in these materials is often laborious, not cost-efficient and only detected on the macroscopic level when it is too late. On the other hand, self -healing materials try to avoid macroscopic failure by responding immediately or at least fast enough to damage [1].

Opis:
Photocurable materials which are obtained on the basis of urethane acrylate resins are often used in the industry for the production varnishes or protective coatings. The main disadvantage which is connected with the utilization of these varnishes is their unpleasant smell during the process of production and curing. This work presents the photocurable varnish which was obtained on the basis of aliphatic urethane acrylate and R-(+)-limonene. The utilization of this raw materials allows to obtain the smelling coatings. The aim of this work were the studies on the influence of limonene molecules on the mechanical properties of the UV-cured coatings. These studies showed that the coatings with limonene molecules retain their properties, and are characterized by the very good adhesion, cohesion and high gloss. These kinds of varnishes can be applied for preparation of appropriate protective coatings on the surface of wood, metals, and nail plates. These protective coatings have not only pleasure smell but also can have the bactericidal and fungicidal properties. The studies performed with Escherichia coli ATCC29425 and Candida albicans confirmed these properties.

Background: Immunization in Poland might be seriously threatened because of inaccurate information about its safety and effectiveness. It is necessary to monitor people’s opinions about immunization in order to stop the negative process of disinformation. Aim of the study: The aim of the diploma paper was to understand parents’ attitude and concerns about immunization in Poland. Material and methods: Two hundred parents from Lower Silesia were enrolled in the study in 2016. The research tool was the author’s unnamed questionnaire. Results: The research shows that the majority of parents 92.5% (183) have positive attitudes towards immunization. The obligatory immunization rate among children in Poland was very high 96% (191). 70.4% (138) of children were given at least one vaccination that was not obligatory in Poland and in most cases that was vaccination against pneumococcus – 61% (103) of children and chickenpox – 54.4% (92) of children. A relationship was noted between the recommended vaccination and financial situation of parents and their education level. There were several reasons why people’s attitudes to vaccination might be negative: financial reasons 60.3% (41), vaccine injury 27.19% (19), ineffectiveness 7.4% (5), and natural ways of supporting immunity 20.6% (14). More than half of respondents 51.6% (101) claim that their knowledge about the immunization is insufficient. The main source of information about immunization for parents is medical staff (doctors, nurses and midwifes). Nevertheless, 32.8% (65) of respondents reported not receiving any information about recommended vaccination from their attending physician. Conclusions: The uptake of immunization is related on parents’ education and financial reasons. Medical staff do not inform parents and promote immunization adequately. Parents are not informed about the possibility of extended vaccination. It is necessary to educate parents about the safety and effectiveness of immunization.
