Opis:
Origanum dubium is a valuable wild oregano species of the natural flora of Antalya, Turkey. In this study, we extracted essential oil (EO) by hydro-distillation of the aerial parts of selected O. dubium chemotype with highest EO content, and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Carvacrol was the primary component (85.9%) among 24 different compounds in the EO. The volatile test showed minimum inhibitory effect of the EO against Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria, Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis, Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli, Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli var. fuscans, and Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, at 309, 303, 318, 254, and 901 µL/mL, respectively. A 1-hour treatment of bean and tomato seeds in the volatile phase of the EO effectively sterilized the seeds from bacterial pathogens without inhibiting their germination. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study on the potential for the use of O. dubium EO as a seed protectant against bean and tomato seed-borne bacterial pathogens.

Opis:
Cabbage plants showing symptoms of leaf spot were detected from various fields in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan in the winter seasons of 2015 and 2016. The disease incidences of approximately 50% were recorded in various fields visited in the Almaty region. The pathogen was aseptically isolated from the symptomatic leaves and maintained in an in vitro culture media. Morphological characteristics and sporulation of the fungus was determined under both light and electron microscopy. The extracted genomic DNA of the fungi was subjected to Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using ABCsens/ABCrev and ITS1/ITS4 primers amplifying ABC transporter (Atr1) gene and the internal transcribed spacer regions, respectively. The amplified products of PCR were sequenced, aligned, blasted and compared for similarity with other species in the NCBI GenBank. The cluster analysis result showed 99% homology with related fungi retrieved from the NCBI GenBank for the ITS region. The fungal isolate was pathogenic towards twenty-two-day-old plants, namely, Brassica oleracea, Lycopersicon esculentum, Solanum melongena, and was established as the causal agent of leaf spot on these plants. This is the first record implicating A. brassicae for black leaf spot disease of cabbage in Kazakhstan.

Opis:
The current research focuses on investigating the effect of using reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) on performance of hot mix asphalt (HMA) prepared with polymer modified bitumen (PMB) binder. This PMB used for the first time with HMA contained RAP. The mechanical properties and performance of HMA were assessed using several standard tests including Marshall, indirect tensile strength, creep compliance, and wheel track test. The RAP replacement was conducted up to 70% of total aggregate in HMA with an increment of 10%. The results of investigation showed, that the use of PMB binder prepared by addition novolac (phenol formaldehyde solid resin) and hexamine to conventional bitumen, significantly improved the performance of HMA contained RAP. Also, the optimum percentage of RAP replacement was found to be 50% of total aggregate in HMA. For this level of replacement, the rut depth reduced up to 38% of its original value.

Opis:
The main objective of the present work is to study the behavior of Nano-lubricated journal bearing considering elasticity and variable viscosity effects. A mathematical model for a journal bearing is employed using three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics. The study is implemented for a journal bearing with laminar flow and smooth surfaces lubricated with pure oil as well as lubricants containing different concentrations of Al2O3 Nano-particles. The dependence of the oil viscosity on the temperature is considered by using the modified Krieger Dougherty model. Pressure, temperature and elastic deformation in addition to the bearing load-carrying capacity of the bearing working under different eccentricity ratios (0.1-0.6) have been studied. The mathematical model is confirmed by comparing the results of the pressure and temperature distributions obtained in the current work with those obtained by Ferron et al.(1983) for a bearing lubricated with pure oil. Also, the pressure obtained for the Nano-lubricated bearing of the present work is validated with that obtained by Solighar (2015). The results are found in good agreement with a maximum deviation not exceeding 5%. The obtained results show that the oil film pressure increases by about 17.9% with a slight decrease in oil film temperature and friction coefficient.

Opis:
The profile of microbial diversity in a NABR digesting RPMW was investigated using phylogenetic analysis of partial 16S rRNA sequences by a neighbor-joining-tree, supported by microbial morphology analysis by SEM. The results showed that microorganism inside NABR consisted of dominant Bacillus (25 strains) and Bacterium (1 strain) which were isolated from the settled sludge at the bottom of the reactor, whilst Bacillus (2 strains), Pseudomonas (2 strain) and Chryseobacterium (2 strain) were isolated from the biofilm formed on the packing material. It revealed that the microbial community strains, function, and structure changed simultaneously throughout the reactor system. The microscopic results showed rich biofacies, while the dominant microorganisms have various morphologies in every compartment of the system. It consisted of a long rod-shaped and filamentous bacterium composed majorly of bacilli of different sizes. Although the study successfully analyzed the microbial diversity and morphology in the system, the microbial communities reported in this study were different from other similar studies. This may be caused by the application of a culture-based technique that usually provides limited information due to the number of barely cultivated or uncultured strains.
