Opis:
For non-sinusoidal single-phase systems, the classical apparent power has been divided into various components using different techniques. These power resolutions generally aim at to provide a tool for the accurate determination of the maximum power factor achievable with a passive compensator and to measure the load's nonlinearity degree. This paper presents a current decomposition-based methodology that can be employed for computationally efficient implementation of the widely recognized non-sinusoidal power resolutions. The proposed measurement method and the original expressions of the power resolutions are comparatively evaluated by considering their computational complexity. The results show that the proposed method has a significant advantage in terms of computational efficiency for the simultaneous measurements of the powers when compared with the original expressions. Finally, in this paper, a PC-based power meter is developed using the proposed measurement method via the LabVIEW programme.

W-1 wt% Ni (W1Ni) matrix composites reinforced with $TiB_2$ and $La_2O_3$ particles were fabricated via mechanical alloying and activated sintering methods. Powder blends with compositions of W1Ni-2 wt% TiB_2-x wt% $La_2O_3$ (x = 0.5, 1) were mechanically alloyed for 6 and 12 h. The results showed that increase in mechanical alloying duration to 12 h causes the decline of grain sizes of the W-Ni matrix to nanoscales. $TiB_2//La_2O_3$ particles have a significant effect on the density/microhardness values and wear amounts of the sintered samples.

In recent years, the detailed modelling of power electronic devices and their behaviours on various system conditions are a great concern of the power industries and customers. One of the widely proliferated such devices is the triac controlled ac choppers. Although these types of devices have important application areas, their poor power factor is the main obstacle for the large scale implementation in power systems. This paper presents an analysis on the behaviour of a single phase load composed with triac controlled ac chopper during the reactive power compensation with a basic capacitor in nonsinusoidal voltage case. The results of these analysis show that the distortion of voltage improves power factor, which is contradicting with previous findings, for the high conduction angles of triac controlled ac chopper. In addition, it is observed that the performance of power factor improvement with a basic capacitor is noticeably affected by the phase angles of voltage harmonics, which is an extensively ignored issue in the literature.

The temperature dependence of the magnetic specific heat was studied experimentally and theoretically in the semimagnetic semiconductor Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Eu$\text{}_{x}$Te for x=0.027 and x=0.073, over the temperature range from 0.5 K to 15 K, in magnetic fields up to 2 T. In zero magnetic field at about 2 K there was a broad maximum in the magnetic specific heat, which was much higher than that predicted by the model of superexchange interaction between nearest neighbors; the maximum values increased with magnetic field. The experimental data were analyzed in the framework of a model which takes into account the spin splitting of the ground state of a single Eu2+ ion in the presence of local lattice distortions in the Pb$\text{}_{1-x}$Eu$\text{}_{x}$Te mixed crystal. The model describes well the experimental data, especially for lower x-values, where the contribution from singlets dominates.

Opis:
Mango ginger (MG) has antiinflammatory and antioxidant properties. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential protective role of MG and the mechanisms against methotrexate (MTX) induced bone damage in rats. A total of 28 Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups: i) control; ii) MG, rats were treated orally with 50 mg/kg/day of MG, iii) MTX, rats were injected with 0.75 mg/kg of MTX from 8th to 12th day for 5 days and iv) MTX+MG group, rats were treated with 50 mg/kg/day of MG and injected with MTX from 8th to 12th day for 5 days. MTX pretreatment increased blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels and aminotransferase enzyme activities, while tibia osteocalcin levels and bone mineral density (BMD) decreased (p < 0.001). MG pretreatment markedly attenuated aminotransferases activities and creatinine levels and increased tibia osteocalcin levels and femur BMD in the MTX + MG groups. MTX treatment increased levels of bone nuclear factor kappa beta ligand receptor-activator (RANKL), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and decreased the bone osteoprotegerin (OPG) and type1 collagen levels (p < 0.001). The effect of MG treatment on RANKL, IL-6, TNF-α, OPG and type1 collagen levels induced by MTX was observed actual effects (p < 0.05). Similarly, the protective effect of MG against MTX was confirmed by histological examination. In conclusion, MG pretreatment reduced the negative effects of MTX on bone damage by improving BMD and modulation of RANKL, IL-6, TNF-α, OPG and type1 collagen expressions in the rats.

In this paper, the widely recognised apparent power definitions, which are Arithmetic, Vector, IEEE standard, DIN standard apparent power definitions and the apparent power definition of Mayordomo and Usaola, are rigorously reviewed, and their abilities on the measurement of the system’s power transfer efficiency are analysed by using a specially derived apparent power, which is calculated in terms of the total line losses of the system with and without the reactive power compensation. In the analyses, two major compensation strategies, namely the minimum line loss (MLL) and sinusoidal and balanced current (SBC) compensation strategies, are considered to determine the total line loss of the system with the compensation. Therefore, in a representative nonsinusoidal and unbalanced test system, the results are simulated by taking into account unbalance among the resistances of neutral and phase lines. The simulated results show that under nonsinusoidal and unbalanced conditions, the unbalance among the resistances of neutral and phase lines highly affects the system’s power transfer efficiency. Additionally, Mayordomo and Usaola’s apparent power definition can be used for proper measurement of the power transfer efficiency in the nonsinusoidal and unbalanced systems. On the other hand, the accuracies of the rest of the reviewed definitions considerably depends on unbalance among the resistances of neutral and phase lines. It should also be mentioned that the accuracies of the apparent power definitions are considerably not affected by the type of compensation strategy.

This paper describes a procedure that uses particle swarm optimization (PSO) combined with the Lagrangian Relaxation (LR) framework to solve a power-generator scheduling problem known as the unit commitment problem (UCP). The UCP consists of determining the schedule and production amount of generating units within a power system subject to operating constraints. The LR framework is applied to relax coupling constraints of the optimization problem. Thus, the UCP is separated into independent optimization functions for each generating unit. Each of these sub-problems is solved using Dynamic Programming (DP). PSO is used to evolve the Lagrangian multipliers. PSO is a population based search technique, which belongs to the swarm intelligence paradigm that is motivated by the simulation of social behavior to manipulate individuals towards better solution areas. The performance of the PSO-LR procedure is compared with results of other algorithms in the literature used to solve the UCP. The comparison shows that the PSO-LR approach is efficient in terms of computational time while providing good solutions.
