Opis:
This paper presents an anthropometric database of high school and university students from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia. Forty-one high school participants (21 males and 20 females), 13–17 years old, and 143 university students (74 males and 69 females) took part in the study. Twenty-one static body dimensions were measured. The greatest mean differences in the anthropometric data between male and female high school students were found in the sitting elbow height. In addition, a comparison of anthropometric data of male and female university students showed that data for males and females were significantly different, except for buttock–popliteal length, sitting elbow height and thigh clearance. The primary aim of this study was to develop an anthropometric database that could be used as a primary reference in designing products, devices and equipment for ergonomic learning environments.

Opis:
This study was conducted to study the degradation of poly (lactic acid) and its composites under natural landfill burial. Composites reinforced with natural fibres were expected to degrade faster than polymer itself. PLA was compounded with kenaf bast fibre (KBC) and kenaf core fibre (KCC) with twin screw extrusion at temperature range 150-160°C and being compression moulded at 170°C for 8 minutes. Samples were then cut prior to testing by burying under composting area in UiTM Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia for 6 month period. Samples were measured and observed monthly for the degradation of composites by weight loss and microscopic observation. As expected weight loss for kenaf bast composite (KBC) and kenaf core composite (KCC) was found to be higher, 15.9% and 17.1% respectively, than that of pure PLA of only 4.14%. Microscopic observation confirms degradation has occurred on surface of composites by making cracks, holes, and black spots on all samples, however degradation was more obvious on composites. FTIR analysis shows that spectra of exposed composites were reduced compared to those of unexposed composites.

Opis:
Desaru is a popular tourist destination located on the east coast of the state of Johor. The area has been identified for further development to enhance tourism. This presents a pollution risk to its surrounding watercourses. The purpose of this study was to assess the potential risk of contamination towards rivers located in the crux of the development region, namely the Terumpah, Che Minah, Semangar, Beluntu, Penawar Besar, and Mertang Besar Rivers. Water quality and hydraulic measurements were made at these rivers, with the intention of developing a numerical model. The model results showed deterioration in BOD5 and NH3-N in the Semangar River, up to 4.0 mg/dm3 and 0.34 mg/dm3, respectively. The Beluntu River experienced the highest degradation, to about 14.0 mg/dm3 of BOD5 and 0.8 mg/dm3 of NH3-N. The waste assimilative capacity (WAC) for the Matang Besar, Che Minah and Beluntu Rivers were very limited, with a class III BOD5 limit of 15, 43, and 10 kg/day, respectively, whereas the Terumpah River is not able to accept any BOD load without breaching the same threshold.
