Opis:
In this study, Inconel 718 material, which is widely used in space aircraft and defense industry and is difficult to be processed by traditional methods, has been cut off with abrasive water-jet. The effects of cutting parameters such as pressure, cutting speed, abrasive consumption and cutting height on kerf have been studied. The input levels needed to be used to obtain the minimum kerf have been determined through Taguchi analysis and the experimental test. The setup of experiment was modelled using linear regression model and an artificial neural network and the results were compared. It was seen that the artificial neural network model gives better results when compared to regression model. The results of experimental test to which the related models were applied are satisfactory.

A culvert is a structure that allows water to flow under a road, railroad, trail, or similar obstruction, from one side to the other side. Typically embedded, so as to be surrounded by soil, a culvert may be made from a pipe, reinforced concrete or other material. In order to minimize the impact of a water crossing on the environment, culverts require the proper size, design and installation, to ensure that they do not cause downstream erosion, upstream flood, alter stream habitat or block organism passage. In this study, the size of a box culvert has been determined by getting more realistic maximum flow rates, by using data of a geographic information system. The results of this study have been compared with the rational method. The size of the culvert, which is calculated by using data from geographic information system will be more realistic and efficient, compared to the culvert, calculated by rational method.

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of cutting parameters and effect of graphite rate on cutting force and surface roughness in drilling of Al/20%SiC/5%Gr, Al/20%SiC/7.5%Gr and Al /20%SiC/10%Gr hybrid composites, fabricated by vortex method. The drilling tests are conducted with diamond-like-carbon coated cutting tools. The Grey relational analysis based Taguchi optimization method was selected to determine the optimum cutting conditions. The results show that the spindle speed (4500 rpm), the rate of graphite (10%) and feed (0.1 mm/rev) were found to be significant parameters for surface roughness and cutting force. The predicted values from the developed model and experimental values are found to be very similar in this study.

Opis:
To date many fixation techniques of mandibular angle fractures have been introduced. There exist much research on the stability of plate and screws systems used in Champy technique in fixation of mandibular fractures. However the need of a second surgery for the removal of these plates and screws, and well known disadvantages of metallic fixations have led to the development of resorbable materials. It is thought that in order to achieve a safe and effective post-operative stability, the use of resorbable plates and screws is preferred for fixation. In this study, fixation evaluation of biodegradable plates which have been commonly used in recent years, was investigated using finite element method. 3D model required to perform the finite element analysis was obtained from CT scanning images using reverse engineering methods and material properties of mandible were obtained by Hounsfield Unit method. Biodegradable fixation systems were applied to this model and FEA was performed. It is concluded that biodegradable plate screw system used in the treatment of mandibular angle fractures shows a sufficient stability under masticatory forces.

The paper provides an overview of the shape of the bridge piers, including the Indonesian approach. Universal principles of piers construction are provided, however the construction solutions placed in tropical climate conditions are determined by regional factors, such as considerations of resistance to earthquakes, tsunamis or frequent floods. The exemplary shapes of the pillars in the plan and the ways of their foundation are presented as a result of the analysis of English, Polish and Indonesian language literature. The economic role of bridge is emphasized in the context of Indonesian archipelago, where it constitute a central component of transportation system. The damage to the bridge is becoming particularly severe for the economy of the Indonesian archipelago. Therefore other climate invoke different engineerig problems. Structural solutions, which in a way respond to adverse climatic conditions are mainly using proper reinforcement in the case of piers, the drainage systems with a higher drainage capacity and metal components anti-corrosion treatment. Factors that should be considered in the design of the bridge pier shape, size, and configuration could be variously grouped and presented. From this study, following criteria can be distinguished: stability, location, seismic load, stream pressure, aesthetic, collision risk.

In this study, the effects of B₄C amount on hardness and wear behaviours of 7075 Al-B₄C composites produced by powder metallurgy method were investigated. Within the scope of work, different amount of B₄C (3, 6, 9%) added into gas atomized 7075 Al powders. The powders were mixed in Turbula with 67 rpm for 45 min. Then the composite powders were pre-shaped by cold pressing under 600 MPa pressure. Pre-shaped samples were sintered in atmosphere controlled furnace at 580°C for 4 h. Scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction examinations and hardness measurements were carried out after standard metallographic processes. Wear tests were performed in a pin on type wear apparatus under 30 N with 1 m s¯¹ sliding speed, at six different sliding distances (500-3000 m). Results show that the hardness was increased with increasing of amount of B₄C. At the end of wear tests the lowest weight loss were found to 9% B₄C containing composites. In addition, it is determined that the weight loss increased with increasing sliding distance.

Drought poses one of the most important environmental constraints to plant survival and productivity and by implication-food insecurity in the tropics. Pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) has the potential of fertilizing the soil thereby improving agricultural production and ensure green environmental and ecosystem stability. Despite the ability of the plant to improve soil fertility and promote greening environment, it has not attracted adequate awareness as a soil improvement plant. This paper highlights the information on the plant in order to intensify awareness for its widespread adoption to achieve the much desired sustainable resource use for greening our economy and environmental management. The successful widespread adoption of the plant will translate to effective drought, desertification and sustainable climate change mitigation approach in Nigeria.

Opis:
The report demonstrates that plenty of methylated flavones of the plant, as the end product of the flavone biosynthesis pathway, are concentrated in the root bark, which largely remains in the waste that makes up 7% w/w of the commercial root and is discarded. The study of the waste extract showed that the last enriched with monomethylated flavones wogonin and oroxylin A, along with some polymethylated ones represent an end of the biosynthesis pathway of flavones in the plant. In addition to wogonin, 7 known methylated flavones were found for the first time in the root bark. Due to a high content of wogonin and oroxylin A in the extract, these flavones were concentrated using preparative liquid chromatography. As a result, the obtained complex of these two target flavones turned out to be 0.8% w/w of the waste. Such morphologically specific accumulation of methylated flavones at the root boundary raises the question of their role in plant life.

The potential use of optimized support vector machines with simulated annealing algorithm in developing prediction functions for estimating soil aggregate stability and soil shear strength was evaluated. The predictive capabilities of support vector machines in comparison with traditional regression prediction functions were also studied. In results, the support vector machines achieved greater accuracy in predicting both soil shear strength and soil aggregate stability properties comparing to traditional multiple-linear regression. The coefficient of correlation (R) between the measured and predicted soil shear strength values using the support vector machine model was 0.98 while it was 0.52 using the multiple-linear regression model. Furthermore, a lower mean square error value of 0.06 obtained using the support vector machine model in prediction of soil shear strength as compared to the multiple-linear regression model. The ERROR% value for soil aggregate stability prediction using the multiple-linear regression model was 14.59% while a lower ERROR% value of 4.29% was observed for the support vector machine model. The mean square error values for soil aggregate stability prediction using the multiplelinear regression and support vector machine models were 0.001 and 0.012, respectively. It appears that utilization of optimized support vector machine approach with simulated annealing algorithm in developing soil property prediction functions could be a suitable alternative to commonly used regression methods.

Opis:
Purpose: This research aims to investigate the detailed state of adsorption kinetics modelling and research on the application of hydrogen sulfide adsorption by hydrogel derived from empty fruit bunch (EFB), the determination of the kinetics parameters, and the comparison between models in a selection of the best-fit model. Design/methodology/approach: The kinetics modelling used are pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models. The correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the suitability of the equation R2. After obtaining the results, the comparison was made by comparing the R2 of each model. The pseudo-second-order model has a higher value of correlation coefficient, R2, making it the most suitable kinetics model for adsorption systems. Findings: The R2 for pseudo-first-order on the effect of dry bed height was 0.8814, whereas its effect on powder bed height was 0.9537, and that of the wet bed height was 0.9607. Meanwhile, the R2 for pseudo-second-order on the effect of dry bed height was 0.89, on the effect of the powder bed height was 0.99, and on the effect of the bed height of wet was 0.99, the highest among kinetic models. Based on the results, the pseudo-second-order model best describes the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) by hydrogel biochar. Research limitations/implications: The kinetics modelling used are pseudo-first-order, and pseudo-second-order models for hydrogen sulfide adsorption by hydrogel originating from empty fruit bunches (EFB). Practical implications: Based on the results, the pseudo-second-order model best describes the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) by hydrogel biochar. Kinetic studies are important in understanding the reactions and design of the process. Originality/value: The authenticity results of this article were found to be 17% similar. The novelty of this paper is the kinetics study of the new adsorbent developed based on EFB to adsorb H2S.

Opis:
The study focused on the profitability of pigeon pea production in Riyom LGA of Plateau State. Data for the study were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. Questionnaires were administered to 80 targeted farmers to get information on their socio-economic characteristics, years of experience in pigeon pea production and the reason for growing pigeon pea. The analytical tool used includes descriptive statistics to analyze the socio-economic characteristics of the farmers and farm budgeting technique (gross margin analysis) for assessing the profitability of pigeon pea production. The study also identified the constraints encountered by farmers such as high cost of labour, inadequate processing / storage facilities, problems of access to credit/loans and weed/pest infestation. The results shows that pigeon pea production is profitable with a total variable cost (TVC) at N22620.68 per ha, while gross revenue (GR) was N50185.25 per ha, the profit margin (GM) at N32564.59 and the net return per Naira invested was N0.69. It was recommended that farm inputs and improved seed varieties should be made available to farmers at affordable rates so as to enable them operate at a commercial and profitable level of pigeon pea production. These farmers should be encouraged to form a cooperative society so as to alleviate the problem of credit/ loan acquisition and procurement of genuine products as well as avoid exploitation.

The influence of the physical and chemical composition of corn distillers dried grains with solubles on its flowability was evaluated in the current study. The samples were evaluated for angle of repose, compressibility, Hausner ratio, tapped density, bulk density, mean bulk density, colour and nutrient content. PROC CORR and REG procedures were used to determine correlations. The ether extract was negatively correlated with crude protein and redness (a*), while crude protein was negatively correlated with yellowness (b*). Acid detergent fibre and neutral detergent fibre were negatively correlated with a* and positively correlated with lightness (L*), respectively. Compressibility showed a negative correlation with bulk density. Bulk density, tapped density and mean bulk density did not impact the angle of repose. The angle of repose was positively correlated with the compressibility and Hausner ratio. Apart from the correlation between acid detergent fibre and tapped density, the angle of repose and other physical parameters were not affected by the nutrient composition of the distillers dried grains with solubles samples. In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that nutrient composition has little influence over the flowability of distillers dried grains with solubles but compressibility and the Hausner ratio can be used to predict the potential flow characteristics of corn distillers dried grains with solubles.
