Potato is an important crop globally and late blight (Phytophthora infestans) often results in severe crop loss. The cost for late blight control can be in excess of $210 million in the United States. We utilised a non-parametric density distribution analysis of local temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH), from 2005 to 2009, to assess and validate sporangia survival potential using survival model and late blight risks during the potato cropping season at Presque Isle, in the northern part of the state of Maine, USA. Modelbased analyses showed that ambient temperatures of 3−30°C and RH values of 45−100% were conducive for sporangia survival. Disease outbreaks and risk periods coincided with a high sporangia survival probability (15−35%). Due to the omission of solar radiation (SR) in the computation of survival potential in previous research, we applied a Cox proportional model to estimate the probability of sporangia survival [i.e. hazard at a specific time H(t)] as a function of baseline hazard (H0) and the influencing parameters. The model is: H(t) = H0(t) × exp(0.067ET + 0.138T + 0.083RH + 0.001SR) where ET is exposure time. The survival model indicated that RH (β = 0.083) and T (β = 0.138) were significant (p < 0.05) factors in sporangia survival in comparison to SR (β = 0.001). The hazard ratio, indicative of sporangia survival risk, varied with the predictors. For the unit increase of T, sporangia survival hazard increased by 1.148 times. The Cox model and sporangia hazard probabilities can be used for short-term disease forecasts based on the risk period most conducive for pathogen survival and targeted fungicide applications for optimum late blight management.

Opis:
Protein hydrolysates could be a natural and safer source of antioxidant peptides. The purpose of this study was to optimize the hydrolysis of Huso dauricus × Acipenser schrenckii sturgeon proteins using bromelain and purify antioxidant peptides from hydrolysate. The degree of hydrolysis of 18.69% was obtained under the optimal conditions and hydrolysate had 94.76% solubility, 902 nm particle size and high antioxidant activity. The IC50 for DPPH• and ABTS•+ scavenging activity were 3.14 and 3.81 mg/mL, respectively. The fraction of hydrolysate with a molecular weight of <1 kDa exhibited the highest antiradical activity against DPPH• with IC50 of 2.10 mg/mL. In turn, the IC50 of the most active fraction after the Sephadex G-15 separation was 1.77 mg/mL. The reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) was used to purify the peptides from this fraction. The peptide with histidine, leucine and glycine (MW of 0.2955 kDa) exhibited the highest antioxidant activity (IC50 of 1.33 mg/mL). The obtained fractions and peptides with antioxidant activity could be used as natural substitutes for synthetic antioxidants, especially in food and pharmaceuticals.

Background: The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) decided to adopt surgical staging for endometrial cancer including systemic pelvic and para-aortic lymph node dissection in 1988; however, the extent of an optimal lymphadenectomy and which subgroup of patients would benefit are still debatable issues. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and distribution of pelvic and aortic lymph node metastases in endometrial cancer and to study various clinicopathologic variables affecting lymph node metastasis in endometrial cancer and their role in tailoring lymphadenectomy. Methods: This retrospective study included patients with endometrial cancer that were admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Shinshu University Hospital, Japan, and South Egypt Cancer Institute, Assiut University, Egypt, between June 2005 and May 2014. All patients underwent pelvic lymph node and para-aortic lymph node dissection as part of the primary surgery during the study period. Demographic and clinicopathological data were collected and analyzed in relation to pelvic lymph node and para-aortic lymph node metastasis. Results: Seventy-eight patients (35 patients from Japan and 43 patients from Egypt) with endometrial cancer with FIGO stage I–IV and with all histopathological cell types and tumor grades were included. Pelvic lymph node metastases were significantly correlated with advanced disease (stage III and IV), endometroid carcinoma, myometrial invasion >1/2, adnexal involvement and lymphovascular space invasion. Para-aortic lymph node metastases were significantly correlated with advanced disease (stage III and IV), myometrial invasion >1/2, adnexal involvement and lymphovascular space invasion. Conclusion: Our study concluded that lymphadenectomy in patients with endometrial cancer can be tailored according to risk stratification for lymph node metastasis. So, in low risk patients lymphadenectomy can be omitted to avoid operative complications.
Wstęp: W 1988 roku Międzynarodowa Federacja Ginekologii i Położnictwa (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, FIGO) zdecydowała o  przyjęciu systemu oceny zaawansowania raka błony śluzowej trzonu macicy z uwzględnieniem usunięcia węzłów chłonnych okołoaortalnych i miedniczych. Jednak zakres optymalnego zabiegu limfadenektomii oraz identyfikacja pacjentek mogących odnieść korzyści z takiego postępowania wciąż są przedmiotem dyskusji. Celem badania była ocena częstości występowania i dystrybucji przerzutów do węzłów chłonnych miedniczych i aortalnych u pacjentek z rakiem błony śluzowej trzonu macicy oraz analiza czynników kliniczno-patologicznych mogących predysponować do ich powstania, a także ich roli w ustalaniu zakresu limfadenektomii. Metody: Retrospektywne badanie przeprowadzono wśród pacjentek z rakiem endometrium przyjętych na Oddział Ginekologii i Położnictwa Szpitala Uniwersyteckiego Shinshu w Japonii i Instytutu Leczenia Nowotworów w Południowym Egipcie Uniwersytetu w Assiut w Egipcie w okresie od czerwca 2005 do maja 2014 roku. W badanym okresie węzły chłonne miednicze i okołoaortalne usunięto u wszystkich chorych w ramach pierwotnego leczenia. Dane demograficzne i kliniczno-patologiczne zebrano i oceniono w oparciu o występowanie przerzutów w węzłach chłonnych miedniczych i okołoaortalnych. Wyniki: Do badania włączono 78 pacjentek (35 z Japonii i 43 z Egiptu) z rakiem błony śluzowej trzonu macicy w stadium FIGO I–IV z uwzględnieniem wszystkich podtypów histopatologicznych oraz stopni złośliwości histopatologicznej nowotworu. Wykazano istotną korelację między występowaniem przerzutów w węzłach chłonnych miednicy a zaawansowaniem choroby (stopień III i IV), obecnością zmian endometrioidalnych, inwazją miometrium >1/2, zajęciem przydatków i inwazją przestrzeni limfatycznej. Z kolei występowanie przerzutów w węzłach chłonnych okołoaortalnych było istotnie skorelowane z zaawansowaniem choroby (stopień III i IV), inwazją miometrium >1/2, zajęciem przydatków i inwazją przestrzeni limfatycznej. Wnioski: Badanie wykazało, że zakres limfadenektomii u chorych na raka endometrium można dostosować na podstawie stratyfikacji ryzyka wystąpienia przerzutów w węzłach chłonnych. U pacjentek niskiego ryzyka procedurę tę można pominąć w celu uniknięcia powikłań związanych z zabiegiem.

Opis:
A pulsation heat pipe is an efficient heat pipe used in many engineering applications. This study aims to test the effect of working fluids on the thermal performance of pulsation heat pipe. Seven turned pulsation heat pipes were designed and manufactured from a copper pipe with a 3.5 mm inner diameter. The lengths of an evaporation part, an adiabatic passage, and a condenser part were 300 mm, 210 mm, and 300 mm, respectively. In this study, three different fluids were used as the working fluid: distilled water, methanol, and binary fluid (a mixture of water and methanol) with a 50% filling ratio. Compared to water, the experimental results suggested that methanol had a better thermal performance when used as a working fluid in the PHP. On the other hand, a binary fluid enhanced the lower thermal performance of water (29% reduction in the thermal resistance and a 20% increase in the effective thermal conductivity of the PHP).

Land-cover by land-use shows the influence of human on earth surface by different phenomena’s, ecological processes and human activities, its indication is a parameter of measurement how and with which extent the human influenced the natural surface with temporal variations. The change detection technique is used based upon the temporal observations from 2000 to 2015. Study area is one of the most populated city of Pakistan where industrial revolution is at its peak. The whole study area is categorized into four classes (i.e. Agricultural, Barren, Built-up and semi natural surfaces). The observational intervals were divided into three main classes i.e. 2000 to 2005, 2005 to 2010 and 2010 to 2015. Remarkable changes were occurred in built up area from 2000 to 2015 which is 38.6 % of total area, while the total change/decreased in barren land is -332 9(ha), similarly the Parks and grasses are also in decreasing extent and affect the local biodiversity and natural environment. The land cover is directly proportional to population expansion of urban city. For making the prediction of future urban expansion, previously occurred changes were aggregated to come up with a single value and then adding it to the recent land-use values. The mapping and analysis was undertaken through techniques of remote sensing and GIS, which proved to be very effective to measure the changes, and trend of changes with time, this mapping not only tells us the scale of change but, also tells us the patterns and the forces which causes these changes.

Landscape and human are the constituents of the natural surroundings in which changing occurred temporally and spatially. The relationship between landscape and environment is not seen by a singular framework or a bare structure. A landscape has different functions and characteristics, when meet specific requirements, then set an ecology in giving context. Every landscape has its own scenario based upon the dimension of human and its kinship with them. Man are the ecosystem managers, the landscape features provide a road map and built human ecology. Development is occurring by landscape change, change of environment and the kinship between human and landscape, study of these phenomena provide us a theoretical framework to assess the man land relationship as is done in this case study. This paper aims to describe how, each individual in a particular environment is participating in change of the landscape. The influence of human is a magnitude of actions upon the landscape and this magnitude shape the local landscape. The paper discussed through a brightness on the dynamics of landscape change in the 21st century due to globalization and modern dimensions and presents us a complex web of human with non-human relationship of ecology, economy and history, which alter the landscape. This paper concluded a reflection of cultural values on physical environment and landscape change to build environment and human ecology.

The Lamongan Regency is an area in East Java, Indonesia, which often experiences drought, especially in the south. The Corong River basin is located in the southern part of Lamongan, which supplies the irrigation area of the Gondang Reservoir. Drought monitoring in the Corong River basin is very important to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural regions. This study aims to analyse the causal relationship between meteorological and agricultural drought indices represented by standardised precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and standard normalisation difference vegetation index (NDVI), using time series regression. The correlation between NDVI and SPEI lag 4 has the largest correlation test results between NDVI and SPEI lag, which is 0.41. This suggests that the previous four months of meteorological drought impacted the current agricultural drought. A time series regression model strengthens the results, which show a causal relationship between NDVI and SPEI lag. According to the NDVI-SPEI-1 lag 4 time series model, NDVI was influenced by NDVI in the previous 12 periods, and SPEI-1 in the last four periods had a determinant coefficient value of 0.4. This shows that the causal model between SPEI-1 and NDVI shows a fairly strong relationship for drought management in agricultural areas (irrigated areas) and is considered a reliable and effective tool in determining the severity and duration of drought in the study area.
