Opis:
Jany was established in 1612 as a manor of Stary Kisielin, on the fertile soil of the valley of the Odra River where good yields could be obtained. Over the 17th and 18th centuries, the village with several dozen households came into being. There was a manor, peasants farms, as well as a smith, a baker and two taverns. During the Second World War 80 percent of people left the village. The remaining 20 percent of the Germans were forcibly deported to Germany in 1945 and 1946. By the decision of the superpowers, Jany became part of Poland. The inhabitants of the Province of Stanisławów were the most numerous group of the Poles coming to Jany in 1945. Around fifty farms (10 ha) were established in the village. However, the policy of the Polish authorities hindered the effective work of the farmers at the time. A kolkhoz, functioning for a few years, compulsory deliveries, no means of productions discouraged young villagers from taking over farms from their parents. Lands were given to the State Agriculture Farm Stożne in exchange for a pension. Most people worked in factories and offices of Zielona Góra. After 1989, when Poland regained its sovereignty, the economic situation of the farms deteriorated. This trend was reversed after Poland joined the European Union in 2004 as it was followed by aid funds received by farmers. The Catholic religion, school, cultural events integrated the inhabitants of Jany who came here from different parts of Poland. They became a homogenous community speaking the Polish language. In 2015 Jany was incorporated into Zielona Góra becoming its calm and ecological district.
