Opis:
The study designed and created a geospatial database for the entities in the study area. The database was subjected to test by issuing single criterion and multiple criteria queries. The single criterion query was issued to test the database on the number of parcels in the study area that are equal to or less than 1500 m2. This is the standard area of a plot when the Abuja Master plan was conceptualized. The query returned 642 parcels out of the 1490 parcels in the study area representing 43.09 percent of the total. The multiple criteria query was issued to show those parcels with more than 25,000 m2 and are developed. The query returned less than 1 percent; that is 11 parcels fall into this category. Buffering was carried out to see the level of compliance of buildings with the 3.0m setback from the fencing walls and the result returned 1725 buildings out of the 3822 buildings within the study area that did not comply with this rule. The parcels were also subjected to a setback of 20m from the river channels in the study area. The rivers were buffered with 20m and overlaid with the parcels. 133 parcels fall within the buffer zone. This is about 8.92 percent of the total parcels in the study area. The implication is that over 90 percent are safe in case there is flooding that spreads around that distance. Graduated colour renderer was used to classify the parcels using the sizes as parameter for the classification.

Opis:
This study makes use of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System techniques to assess the vulnerability of structures along river channels in Oyo metropolis. The vulnerable rates were classified into High, Medium and Low using 30m, 45m and 60m buffer distances from the middle of the river channels while network analysis was also carried out to attend to any emergency operation. To achieve this feat, a geospatial database was designed and created with various analyses carried out on the entities extracted from the satellite image of the study area. Such analyses include, buffering to categorize the vulnerable zones into the various classes, network analyst menu of ArcGIS 10.2.2 was employed to find the best route from the Fire Service Station to the point of accident and also an alternative route in case of a barrier or barriers on the best route. This showed that a total of 881 buildings will be affected in any instance of flooding that is within 60m from the middle of the river channels in the study area. 399 buildings fall in high vulnerable zone accounting for 45.29% of the buildings examined for vulnerability in the study area, 245 buildings fall within the moderately vulnerable zone accounting for 27.81% and 237 buildings fall within low vulnerable zone at 26.90%. The best route from the Fire Service Station to the point of accident is gotten to be 2.3 Km while the alternative route is 2.7 Km when a barrier is placed on the best route during rescue mission indicating 0.4 Km difference between the two routes. Maps, tables and a chart were produced for various results.

Evaluating the accessibility of NPC birth and death registration centers in Ikorodu LGA of Lagos state was conceived to manage the citing of birth and death registration centers. Digital database that is consistent and devoid of redundancy that enables data sharing at the end. National Population Commission will be a note among the geo-spatial data information infrastructures in the National geospatial frame. Therefore, the design of a geo-demographic digital database has seriously become more useful and eminent for National Population Commission to establish a programmatic database that will allow for easy update and retrieval. This structure is expected to provide for the implementation of a proper GIS in the National Population Commission nationwide.

Census Enumeration Information System of part of Ikeja GRA residential layout, Ikeja Local Government area of Lagos State was conceived to manage census data in a digital database that is consistent and devoid of redundancy that enables data sharing and at the end, National Population Commission will be a node among the geospatial data information infrastructure in the national geo-spatial framework. Therefore, the design of a geodemographic digital database has become more useful and imminent for National Population Commission to establish a pragmatic database that will allow easy update and retrieval. Population data of the Five enumeration areas in the study area making up a Supervisory area were from the National Population Commission (NPC), Abuja; while the geometric data were digitized from 1.0m Ikonos image of the study area from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF), Abuja and attribute data were from oral interview. Adekunle Fajuyi had a population density of 1426/ Km² as the most densely populated in the study area while the least was Oduduwa that had 422/ Km². The reason is attributed to more houses falling in residential category in Adekunle Fajuyi area while Oduduwa area have more buildings with residential purposes. The network analysis compared the results from taking the best route and alternative route from the assemblage point to a point in EA 0010. The difference between taking the best route and the alternative route is 7.4m. This is an indication that the best route is shorter than the alternative which will in turn saves time and cost of running the operations of the Enumerators. The maps of the best and alternative routes were produced. This structure if properly put in place is expected to provide for the implementation of a proper GIS in the National Population Commission nationwide.

Opis:
This study employed Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) as a tool in assessing the geospatial distribution of the waste bin collection points in Sango-Ota to determine the efficiency in various locations in the town. The population figures of 1991, 2006 and the projected population of the various political wards for 2012 from the National Population Commission, Abuja were employed; the coordinates of the existing public waste bins were taken using Garmin 760 GPS (Global Positioning System) with high accuracy, georeferenced Quickbird image from the Office of Surveyor General of the Federation, Abuja with 0.5m resolution of the study area was employed. However, entities such as Roads, Buildings and Rivers among others were extracted from the configuration. Attribute data were collected for each entity; spatial database also created for the entities in order to determine how effective and efficient the public waste bins are. Spatial analyses like buffering and overlay operations were performed in ArcGIS 10.0 version and results revealed that the available waste collection points are not enough to handle the total waste generated as a result of rapid development. It is concluded that by the year 2020, the population of the study area will have risen to 268,896 and the waste to be generated will be in the neighbourhood of over 400 tonnes in which if not properly managed can lead to outbreak of epidemic. Recommendations were put forward to the relevant agencies for decisions and prompt actions.
