The objective of this work is to investigate the influence of slotted air gap constructive parameters on magnetic flux density of rotating machines. For this purpose, different approaches were used to solve the air gap field diagram using finite element method and the magnetic field distribution uniformity was evaluated by Carter's factor calculation on two-dimensional and three-dimensional models. Sensitivity analysis of slot constructive parameters was performed and results show that slot geometry modifies the magnetic flux on air gap and shifts the air gap magnetic equipotential midline of double slotted machines. Finally, minimization of Carter’s factor on two-dimensional model presents an optimized slot geometry with a near uniform magnetic flux density distribution.

This paper addresses the nonlinear Cucker-Smale optimal control problem under the interplay of memory effect. The aforementioned effect is included by employing the Caputo fractional derivative in the equation representing the velocity of agents. Sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the considered problem are proved and the analysis of some particular problems is illustrated by two numerical examples.

People spend most of their time in indoor environments and, consequently, these environments are more significant for the contribution of the daily pollutant exposure than outdoors. In case of children, a great part of their time is spent at school. Therefore, evaluations of this microenvironment are important to assess their time-weighted exposure to air pollutants. The aim of this study was to assess the children exposure to bioaerosols at schools from two different types of areas, urban and rural. A methodology based upon passive sampling was applied to evaluate fungi, bacteria and pollens, simultaneously with active sampling for fungi and bacterial assessment. Results showed very good correlations between sampling methods, especially for summer season. Passive sampling methodologies presented advantages such as no need of specific and expensive equipment, and they allow achieving important qualitative information. The study was conducted in different periods of the year to study the seasonal variation of the bioaerosols. Fungi and pollen presented higher levels during the summer time whereas bacteria did not present a seasonal variation. Indoor to outdoor ratios were determined to assess the level of outdoor contamination upon the indoor environment. Levels of fungi were higher outdoor and bacteria presented higher concentrations indoors. Indoor levels of bioaerosols were assessed in primary schools of urban and rural areas, using the active method along with a passive sampling method. Very good correlations between methods were found which allow the use of the passive sampling method to supply important and reliable qualitative information of bioaerosols concentrations in indoor environments. Seasonal variation in bioaerosols concentrations were found for fungi and pollen. Concentrations of fungi and bacteria above AMV (Acceptable Maximum Value) were found for most of the studied classrooms showing the importance of this microenvironment for the high exposure of children to bioaerosols.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the correlation between antenatal corticosteroids and peri-intraventricular haemorrhage (PIVH) using transfontanelle ultrasonography, as well as to evaluate the risk factors for its incidence. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study using medical records of preterm newborns. The protocol for maternal corticoid administration for foetal lung maturation included dexamethasone 4 mg (intramuscular) 8/8 hours per 48 hours, with one cycle per week. The diagnosis of periintraventricular haemorrhage was based on transfontanelle ultrasonography, using the Papile’s classification. The following risk factors for peri-intraventricular haemorrhage were assessed: birth weight, gestational age at delivery, type of delivery, newborn’s sex, surfactant administration, premature rupture of membranes and previous history of infection during the current pregnancy. The student’s t-test and chi-square test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Our sample population included 184 preterm newborns. Transfontanelle ultrasonography revealed peri-intraventricular haemorrhage in 32 (74.4%) and periventricular leukomalacia in 11 (25.6%) newborns. Grade I haemorrhage was found in 20 (62.5%), grade II in five (15.6%), and grade III in seven (21.8%) newborns, as in accordance with Papile’s classification. Vaginal delivery (p = 0.010), birth weight <1500 g (p = 0.024), gestational age at delivery ≤32 weeks (p = 0.018), and previous history of infection during pregnancy (p = 0.013) were considered risk factors for peri-intraventricular haemorrhage in preterm newborns. Conclusion: Maternal corticoid administration for foetal lung maturation showed a protective effect against peri-intraventricular haemorrhage in preterm newborns. The risk factors for peri-intraventricular haemorrhage were determined.
Cel pracy: Celem przedstawionego badania była ocena korelacji między prenatalną terapią kortykosteroidami a występowaniem krwawienia około-dokomorowego z zastosowaniem ultrasonografii przezciemiączkowej oraz analiza czynników ryzyka częstości jego występowania. Metody: Przeprowadzono retrospektywne badanie kohortowe obejmujące analizę dokumentacji medycznej przedwcześnie urodzonych noworodków. Protokół stosowania kortykosteroidów u ciężarnych kobiet w celu stymulacji dojrzewania płuc płodu obejmował deksametazon w dawce 4 mg (domięśniowo) 8/8 godzin na 48 godzin, jeden cykl tygodniowo. Rozpoznanie krwawienia około-dokomorowego oparto na ultrasonografii przezciemiączkowej z wykorzystaniem klasyfikacji Papile. Dokonano oceny następujących czynników ryzyka krwawienia około-dokomorowego: masa urodzeniowa, wiek ciążowy w chwili urodzenia, rodzaj porodu, płeć noworodka, podawanie surfaktantów, przedwczesne pęknięcie błon płodowych i zakażenia przebyte w trakcie ciąży. Analizę statystyczną przeprowadzono z zastosowaniem testu t-Studenta i testu χ2. Wyniki: Próba populacji obejmowała 184 przedwcześnie urodzone noworodki. Ultrasonografia przezciemiączkowa ujawniła krwawienie około-dokomorowe u 32 (74,4%) dzieci, natomiast leukomalację okołokomorową – u 11 (25,6%). Krwawienie I stopnia stwierdzono u 20 (62,5%), II stopnia – u 5 (15,6%), natomiast III stopnia – u 7 (21,8%) noworodków, zgodnie z klasyfikacją Papile. Za czynniki ryzyka krwawienia około-dokomorowego u przedwcześnie urodzonych noworodków uznano poród siłami natury (p = 0,010), masę urodzeniową

Opis:
This work presents a mathematical model of an aeropendulum system with two sets of motors with propellers and the design and simulation of a loop-shaping h∞control for this system. In this plant, the objective is to control the angular position of the pendulum rod through the torque generated by the thrust of the motorized propellers at the end of the rod’s axis. The control design is obtained by first using feedback linearization and then designing the h∞ controller using the resulting linear system. For the control strategy validation, simulations were conducted in the Matlab/Simulink® environment, and the weighting functions for the h∞ controller were adjusted to obtain the desired performance and stability of the closed-loop system. The simulation results show the efficiency of the applied methodology.

In this present study, biodiesel was synthesized as per ASTM method by using algae as a raw material, which in the environment is considered as being a harmful waste and of a nature that blooms in ponds, lakes and reservoirs. In order to improve fuel quality, the transesterification process was carried out in this study so as to remove fatty acids and thereafter, analyze several fuel parameters of the biodiesel were determined. The calorific value of the biodiesel and its specific gravity was 42660 kJ/kg and 0.803 g/cm3 respectively. The viscosity of the sample was found to be 1.99. The cetane number of diesel fuel ranged from 40 to 55 and for the biodiesel it was found to be 47. The flashpoint and firepoint of the sample was recorded as 80°C and 94°C respectively. The conclusion is that it is worthy to mention that this process does not require high-end technology; hence, it could be used in the energy generation process in remote areas and as an alternative resource, as well.
