Opis:
Several factors have crucial impact on the serviceability of underground openings including: the quality of rock mass; the presence of rock joints and their geometrical properties; the state of in-situ stress ratio; the depth below surface and opening geometry. This paper only investigates the effect of two parameters on the stability of underground shallow tunnels, namely: the presence of rock joints in the rock mass matrix and the shape of the excavation. A series of two-dimensional elasto-plastic finite-element models has been constructed using rock-soil, RS2D, software. Consequently, parametric stability analysis has been conducted for three different tunnel shapes (e.g. circular, square and horseshoe) with/without joint inclusion. Four reference points have been assigned in the tunnel perimeter (e.g. back, sidewalls and floor) to monitor the state of stress-displacement in the rock mass around them. The results indicate that the weak performance of a tunnel opening occurs with a square-shaped opening and when joints exist in the rock mass. In addition, the normal stress along joints sharply drops in the vicinity of a tunnel opening. Moreover, the direction of shear stress is reversed. Thus, it causes inward shear displacement.

The atmospheric parameters observations enable to made continental and global scales by remote sensing devices existent in space. One of these instruments is the Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder (AIRS) onboard Aqua satellite. We characterize the vertical distribution of troposphere carbon monoxide (CO) measured by AIRS over IRAQ. This study presents one year data. Results shown standard deviation of monthly troposphere CO for five locations: Baghdad, Basrah, Maysan, Al Fakka, and Mosul, from January to December 2012, was 107.15 ±18.75 ppbv for entire period depend on whether circumstance and topography. The seasonal differences undulate between winter and summer seasons, with higher values CO in the winter than in the summer and autumn seasons. In addition, the rising in troposphere CO values can be measured during year over the manufacturing and crowded urbanized zones. AIRS observations reveal enhanced abundances of CO, with values that can exceed 120 ppbv at approximately 4 km altitude over Baghdad and Mosul. The lower CO amounts observed of approximately 88–90 ppbv at 253 mb (altitude 11 km) during October. Comparisons over Baghdad station in 2012 showed close agreement between the ground CO data and the observed CO from AIRS, and regression result showed high correlation coefficient (R = 0.962). The vertical CO observation by AIRS is providing meaningful information for different altitude layers closer to the troposphere, and the satellite measurements are able to measure the increase of the atmosphere CO concentrations over varied regions.

Opis:
The assemblage of textiles and electronics in a single structure has led to the development of smart textiles for functional purposes and special products. Conductive yarn as a necessary component of smart textiles is being developed by a number of techniques. The objective of the current study was to impart conductivity to yarn by coating the silver and copper nanoparticles on the surface of multifilament polyester textile fibres. The surface morphology and electrical conductivity of the coated yarns were investigated. The wash ability of the conductive yarns developed was also studied. The yarns showed good retention of the nanoparticles, as proven by the very small loss of the conductivity of the material.
Połączenie tekstyliów i elektroniki w jednej strukturze doprowadziło do rozwoju inteligentnych tekstyliów znajdujących zastosowanie w celach funkcjonalnych i produktach specjalnych. Przędza przewodząca, jako niezbędny składnik inteligentnych wyrobów włókienniczych, może być otrzymywana za pomocą szeregu różnych technik. Celem badania było nadanie przewodnictwa przędzy poliestrowej poprzez powlekanie jej nanocząsteczkami srebra i miedzi. Zbadano morfologię powierzchni i przewodnictwo elektryczne powleczonych przędz, a także ich odporność na pranie. Przędze wykazywały dobrą retencję nanocząstek, co potwierdzała bardzo mała utrata przewodności materiału.

Objectives: Depression is acommon mental health disorder. The aim of this study is to determine the level of public awareness regarding this illness, its symptoms, associated factors, available forms of treatment, and the attitude towards depressed people. Methods: A self administered questionnaire was filled in by approximately 5000 individuals selected from various regions of Jordan. Results: The majority of participants thought that depression is a treatable condition that can affect patient at any age, and may be controlled by the will power. Loss of interest in things and presence of negative feelings were the most commonly recognized symptoms of depression, while, unemployment and poverty were found to be the most recognized risk factors for depression. In addition, most participants considered support from family and friends (93.6%) as well as exercise (80.4%) to be the best available forms of depression treatment. Respondents found it acceptable to work, make friends with, or marry depressed individuals. The first choice persons for seeking help by most participants were family members and friends (49.8%). Conclusion: Collectively, the level of awareness of depression was acceptable. However, further efforts are necessary to establish public educational programs related to depression in order to raise awareness regarding the disease.

The aim of a quality assurance program is to assist a radio-diagnostic facility in consistently obtaining adequate radiological information with a minimum of dose and a minimum of cost. An integrated part of a quality assurance program is quality control ascertaining quality by measurements and other procedures. When procuring equipment, a specification is worked out taking into account all aspects of the performance of the equipment including the desired tolerances of technique factors. In this study the seven tests (beam alignment, beam collimation, reproducibility, accuracy of kv, time accuracy, half value layer (HVL) and leakage) were carried out for the newly installed General X-Ray machine at Nuclear Malaysia and were in the acceptable limits. Such a test will be the responsibility of a qualified physicist or engineer. The status test is carried out in order to establish the functional status of the equipment. The test is performed immediately after the acceptance test or as an integrated part of it. The test will be repeated when repair influencing the functional status has taken place like the acceptance test; the status test will comprise absolute measurements and will likewise be the responsibility of a qualified physicist or engineer.

In northern Iraq, countless non-abuse stream valleys can be used to store water for a variety of purposes; domestic, supplementary irrigation, and recharging groundwater. Bandawaya is one of the stream valleys, which form the first perspective has excellent quality. The location of the suggested dam has been evaluated by hydrological and geotechnical studies. Geotechnical studies included measurement of all the parameters related to the rock mass classification for evaluation based on four classification systems, which are the Q-System, the rock mass rating (RMR), the geological strength index (GSI), and the rock mass index (RMi). The classification results indicated that the rocks of the valley are good for constructing a dam on them, with some weak zones that may affect the integrity of the dam, which the study recommended treating before starting the construction of the dam. According to preliminary studies on different dam’s heights the qualification demonstrates an excellent choice of the site. Four stream orders are recognized, dendritic pattern in the southern part of the watershed, and trellised in the northern part. Three heights assumed to the proposed dam 450, 460, 470 m a.s.l. with 640,764; 3429,787; 8,590,763 m3 storage capacity respectively. According to the Q-System, the RMR, the GSI, and the RMi, the rock mass of the study area is evaluated. The findings illustrate the excellent selection by geotechnical, hydrological, and engineering features of the dam place.

In this paper, a study of the effect of winglet sweep angle and winglet tip chord of the aircraft wing on the aerodynamics performances and how to improve it are carried out, assuming Cant angle 60°, winglet height = 3.5 m, Toe angle = -5°, and Twist angle = +5°. Different sweep angles tested (-25°, -15°, 0°, +15°, +25°, +35°, and +45°) and winglet tip chord (0.25, 0.375, and 0.5 m). Four Angle of attack is presented (0°, 3°, 6°, and 9°). The aerodynamics properties of the wing were measured in terms of calculated lift to drag ratio to decide which wing has a high value of lift and lower drag. All models of a wing (eighty-four models) are drawn for 3D using the SOLIDWORKS program. Boeing 737-800 wing dimensions were used. All models of a wing were analyzed using ANSYS FLUENT. The results showed that sweep angle and winglet tip chord of the winglet by changing their configuration can improve aerodynamic performance for various attack angles. The maximum value of the lift to drag ratio was obtained with a sweep angle -15°, winglet tip chord 0.375m, and angle of attack 3°.

This study investigates the lower Tigris basin’s the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) sensitivity in 2000–2016 to regional climate variability reflected by the monthly precipitation and temperature time series of seven global datasets as well as to four global circulation indices. To examine the effect of climate variability on the different ecosystems, the study area has been classified into 10 smaller natural and anthropogenic landscapes based on landforms and land cover patterns. The preliminary analysis showed that the maximum biological productivity reflected by the NDVI of March and April has the highest correlation (0.5–0.8) to the same cumulative amounts of October–March period total precipitation and January–March period mean temperatures according to all datasets. In addition, this article showed there is a correlation between landscapes’ NDVI and global modulation represented by the September–February state of El Nińo-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) (0.55–0.70) and December state of the dipole mode index (DMI) (0.35–0.72). The significant differences in the original precipitation and temperature levels according to the different datasets have urged the use of normalized time series: z-score of temperatures and analogous six-months the standardized precipitation index (SPI). Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) consist of accelerometers, gyroscopes and a microprocessor provide inertial digital data from which position and orientation is obtained by integrating the specific forces and rotation rates. In addition to the accelerometers and gyroscopes, magnetometers can be used to derive the absolute user heading based on Earth’s magnetic field. Unfortunately, the measurements of the magnetic field obtained with low cost sensors are corrupted by several errors including manufacturing defects and external electro-magnetic fields. Consequently, proper calibration of the magnetometer is required to achieve high accuracy heading measurements. In this paper, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based calibration algorithm is presented to estimate the values of the bias and scale factor of low cost magnetometer. The main advantage of this technique is the use of the artificial intelligence which does not need any error modeling or awareness of the nonlinearity. The estimated bias and scale factor errors from the proposed algorithm improve the heading accuracy and the results are also statistically significant. Also, it can help in the development of the Pedestrian Navigation Devices (PNDs) when combined with the INS and GPS/Wi-Fi especially in the indoor environments.

The increased power density, reduced switching losses with minimum electromagnetic interference (EMI), and high efficiency are essential requirements of power converters. To achieve these characteristics, soft power converters employing soft switching techniques are indispensable. In this paper, a ZCS/ZVS PWM AC/DC converter topology has been emphasized, which finds applications in high power systems such as automobile battery charging and renewable energy systems. This converter scheme maintains zero current and zero voltage switching conditions at turn on and turn off moments of semiconductor switches, respectively and soft operation of rectifier diodes that lead to negligible switching and diode reverse recovery losses. Moreover, it improves power quality and presents high input power factor, low total harmonic distortion of the input current (THDI ) and improved efficiency. The validity of theoretical analysis of the proposed converter has been carried out experimentally on a 10 kW laboratory prototype. Experimental results prove that the soft switching operation of the semiconductor switches and diodes is maintained at 98.6% rated load efficiency. In addition, the performance evaluation has been performed by comparative analysis of the proposed converter with some prior art high power AC/DC converters. Efficiencies of the proposed and prior art high power topologies have been determined for different load conditions. The highest efficiency, power factor and lower THDI of the proposed converter topology complies with international standards.
