Opis:
The issue of Ritz vectors and their advantages is well-known in the field of structural engineering. This study deals with Ritz analysis and its experimental support. To that end, two different precast concrete molds were handled. Experiments were performed under vibration with the use of a computer-based data acquisition system. Transducers were used to measure displacement histories on the mold. Three dimensional finite element (3D FEM) simulation modeling of the concrete mold was carried out to obtain deflection histories on the mold. The computed displacement histories were compared with the experimental testing results. The comparisons show that the experimental and numerical results are compatible.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to compare the wear behavior of X45MoCrV5-3-1 tool steel, used as die material in aluminum extrusion, after single treatment (CrN coating) and duplex treatment (nitriding and CrN coating). Gas nitriding and physical vapor deposition were used as processing techniques and wear tests were carried out at both room and elevated temperatures. A "ball-on-disc" type tribometer was used for room temperature tests, utilizing Al₂O₃ ball as counterpart. In order to simulate the wear conditions during extrusion, hot wear tests were carried out at 450°C using "block-on-cylinder" type tribometer against AA 6080 material. Worn surfaces were studied by microscopy to reveal the wear characteristics of treated steels. It was found that (i) duplex treated steel, having higher friction coefficient at room and elevated temperature, had higher wear resistance, (ii) at room temperature single treated steel exhibited higher volume loss than the duplex treated one, (iii) at elevated temperature duplex treated steel revealed a stable coating layer, whereas micro cracks were observed on the surface of the single treated steel.

Opis:
Among the copper based alloys, Cu-Al-X bronzes are commonly used as mold materials due to their superior physical and chemical properties. Mold materials suffer from both wear and corrosion, thus, it is necessary to know which one of the competitive phenomenon is dominant during the service conditions. In this study, tribo-corrosion behavior of CuAl10Ni5Fe4 and CuAl14Fe4Mn2Co alloys were studied and electrochemical measurements were carried out using three electrode system in 3.5 % NaCl solution in order to evaluate their corrosion resistance. In tribo-corrosion tests, alloys were tested against zirconia ball in 3.5 % NaCl solution, under 10N load with 0.04 m/s sliding speed during 300 and 600 m. The results indicate that (i) CuAl10Ni5Fe4 alloy is more resistant to NaCl solution compared to CuAl14Fe4Mn2Co alloy that has major galvanic cells within its matrix, (ii) although CuAl10Ni5Fe4 alloy has lower coefficient of friction value, it suffers from wear under dry sliding conditions, (iii) as the sliding distance increases, corrosion products on CuAl14Fe4Mn2Co surface increase at a higher rate compared to CuAl10Ni5Fe4 leading to a decrease in volume loss due to the lubricant effect of copper oxides.
