Opis:
Sealed can technique using CR-39 plastic track detector strippable has been used in order to measure radon concentrations to calculate the annual effective dose and lung cancer cases per year per million person for twenty different brand tobacco cigarette were collected from Iraqi market. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Radon exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer, following tobacco smoke. Radon is not only an independent risk factor; it also increases the risk of lung cancer in smokers. It has been observed that tobacco smoking increases the risks of radon-induced lung cancer. Radon and cigarette smoking have synergistic, multiplicative effect on lung cancer rates. People who inhale tobacco smoke are exposed to higher concentrations of radioactivity. Ever since studies on the relation of smoking to cancer, particularly the lung cancer has been established, there had been a great interest in studies concerned with the monitoring of the alpha radioactivity in tobacco. The results showed that the 222Rn concentrations in cigarette tobacco samples ranged from (156.450 to 403.087) Bq/m3 with an average 284.751 Bq/m3, while the radon induced lung cancer risks was found to vary from 71.047 to 183.049 with an av¬erage value of 129.3107 per million person, and standard deviation 83.529 and 37.932, respectively. Excellent correlation has been observed between radon concentration and lung cancer cases per year per million person for different brand tobacco cigarettes.

Opis:
In this paper, the determination of specific activity concentrations in ten soil samples collected from the antiquity's area of the archaeological of Ur city, were carried out using HPGe scintillation detector. The results of measurements have shown that the specific activity, for 238U varied from (16.520 Bq/kg) to (30.620 Bq/kg), with average value (24.730 ±4.05 Bq/kg), the specific activity of Th-232 was varied from (18.730 Bq/kg) to (31.670 Bq/kg), with average value of (25.098 ±3.41 Bq/kg), while the specific activity of K-40 was varied from (123.340 Bq/kg) to (261.480 Bq/kg), with average value of (189.767 ±39.47 Bq/kg). All soil samples of the archaeology of Ur city were found to be lower than the recommended values given by (UNSCEAR, 2000). In order to asses the radiological hazards of the radioactivity in soil samples of the archaeological of Babylon city, (Raeq, DƔ, AEDin, AEDout, EAD, Iɣ,Iα, Hin and Hex) have been calculated, and all the obtained results were found lower than the allowed limits given by (UNSCEAR, 2000).

Opis:
The aim of the study is to calculate the alpha emitters in bone samples of some animals by counting the tracks of alpha particles emitted from radioactive nuclei (Pb-210, Po-210, Ra-226) using the CN-85 detector. The detectors were kept with the samples in closed clear plastic cups at a 2 cm distance for 60 days. The track density in the detector, and, hence, the alpha emitters from the bones were counted with an optical microscope after etching the detectors with an etchant solution (NaOH). The results showed that the optimum etching time of CN-85 when using to detect alpha emitted from natural radionuclides were 40 mins and the highest track density were found in chicken, beef, and sheep respectively.
