Opis:
Epidemic outbreaks of avian influenza (AI) virus H5N1 have been frequently reported in Egypt during the last nine years. Here we investigate the involvement of AI H5N1 in outbreaks of acute respiratory disease that occurred in several commercial chicken farms in Egypt in 2011, and we describe to the pathology caused by the virus in the course of the outbreak. Twenty-one chicken farms with history of acute respiratory symptoms and high mortalities were screened for AI H5N1. Virus identification was based on hemagglutination inhibition test, and PCR detection and sequencing of the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes. Virus distribution was determined by immunohistochemical staining of AI antigens in organs of infected birds. Standard H&E staining was performed for histological examination of affected organs. Eighty-one % of the examined birds, representing 100% of the screened farms, were positive for AI H5N1 virus. Phylogenetic analysis of the hemagglutinin and neuraminidase genes of the isolated virus reveals its affiliation to clade 2.2.1. Viral antigens were localized in the endothelial cells of the heart, liver, lungs and skin, where pathological lesions including congestion, hemorrhages, multifocal inflammation and necrosis were concurrently observed. According to the pattern of the viral antigen and lesion distribution in the visceral organs, we suggest cardiovascular and circulatory failures as the probable cause of death during these outbreaks. In conclusion, the present study further confirms the epidemic status of AI H5N1 virus in Egypt and reveals the highly pathogenic nature of the local isolates.

In this research, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are used as the reinforcement in an epoxy resin with weight percentages (0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1)wt%, respectively, by using both direct (nonhomogeneous) and homogeneous dispersion mixing processes to prepare (epoxy/MWCNTs) nanocomposites. Tensile and drop weight impact tests are used to evaluate mechanical properties of the composites. Results show that homogeneous dispersion has a great effect on enhancing mechanical properties of multi-wall carbon nanotube reinforced composites. Adding 0.2 wt% of MWCNTs enhances and increases tensile properties, and adding 0.6 wt% of MWCNTs enhances impact properties.

With the growing use of inverters in distributed generation, the problem of injected harmonics becomes critical. These harmonics require the connection of low pass filters between the inverter and the network. This paper presents a design method for the output LC filter in grid coupled applications in distributed generation systems. The design is according to the harmonics standards that determine the level of current harmonics injected into the grid network. Analytical expressions for the maximum inductor ripple current are derived. The filter capacitor design depends on the allowable level of switching components injected into the grid. Different passive filter damping techniques to suppress resonance affects are investigated and evaluated. Simulated results are included to verify the derived expressions.

Opis:
On-chip optical-interconnect technology emerges as an attractive approach due to its ultra-large bandwidth and ultra-low power consumption. Silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wire waveguides, on the other hand, have been identified to potentially replace copper wires for intra-chip communication. To take advantage of the wide bandwidth of SOI waveguides, wavelengthdivision multiplexing (WDM) has been implemented. However, WDM have inherent drawbacks. Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) is a viable alternative to WDM in MIMO photonic circuits on SOI as it requires only one carrier wavelength to operate. In this vein, mode converters are key components in on-chip MDM systems. The goal of this paper is to introduce a transverse electric mode converter. The suggested device can convert fundamental transverse electric modes to first-order transverse electric ones and vice versa. It is based on small material perturbation which introduces gradual coupling between different modes. This device is very simple and highly compact; the size of which is 3 μm². Mathematical expressions for both the insertion loss and crosstalk are derived and optimized for best performance. In addition, three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (3D-FDTD) simulations are performed in order to verify the mathematical model of the device. Our numerical results reveal that the proposed device has an insertion loss of 1.2 dB and a crosstalk of 10.1 dB. The device’s insertion loss can be decreased to 0.95 dB by adding tapers to its material perturbation.

Opis:
The concept of `diversity' has been one of the main open issues in the field of multiple classifier systems. In this paper we address a facet of diversity related to its effectiveness for ensemble construction, namely, explicitly using diversity measures for ensemble construction techniques based on the kind of overproduce and choose strategy known as ensemble pruning. Such a strategy consists of selecting the (hopefully) more accurate subset of classifiers out of an original, larger ensemble. Whereas several existing pruning methods use some combination of individual classifiers' accuracy and diversity, it is still unclear whether such an evaluation function is better than the bare estimate of ensemble accuracy. We empirically investigate this issue by comparing two evaluation functions in the context of ensemble pruning: the estimate of ensemble accuracy, and its linear combination with several well-known diversity measures. This can also be viewed as using diversity as a regularizer, as suggested by some authors. To this aim we use a pruning method based on forward selection, since it allows a direct comparison between different evaluation functions. Experiments on thirty-seven benchmark data sets, four diversity measures and three base classifiers provide evidence that using diversity measures for ensemble pruning can be advantageous over using only ensemble accuracy, and that diversity measures can act as regularizers in this context

A new simple design methodology which makes LDR output nearly insensitive to jumps of the load current for long times is proposed. This methodology is tested for more than 10⁴ seconds. Our procedure leans on cross coupling of the time second derivative of the LDR power transistor gate and drain voltages along with their currents. This technique keeps low values of these currents in order of nano or hundreds of micro amperes for undershot or overshot cases, respectively. The introduced methodology has been applied to a standard CMOS of 0.18μm technology for NMOS transistors and validated using MATLAB R2014a.

The characteristic of nano sized particles mass flux conditions are engaged in this investigation. Here we assume that the nano sized particle flux is zero and the nano sized particle fraction arranged itself on the boundary layer. With this convincing and revised relation, the features of Buongiorno relation on three-dimensional flow of Carreau fluid can be applied in a more efficient way. The governing partial differential equations of continuity, momentum, energy and concentration equations which are transmitted into set of pair of nonlinear ordinary differential equations utilizing similar transformations. The numeric solutions are acquired by engaging the bvp4c scheme, which is a finite-difference code for solving boundary value problems. A parametric study is accomplished to demonstrate the impact of Prandtl number, Weissenberg numbers, radiation parameter, chemical reaction parameter, thermophoresis parameter, Brownian motion parameter and Lewis number on the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration profiles as well skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number within the boundary layer. From this we find the way in which magnetic parameter contributes to the increase in local skin fraction, and the decrease in the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers in these cases. The effects of the velocity temperature and concentration profile are obtained and presented graphically.

The increasing numbers of PET studies for routine diagnosis creates a real hazard to radiation workers. The aim of this study is to estimate the annual whole-body and finger radiation dose to technologists working with 18F-FDG in a PET center with high patient potential. In our PET center, the number of PET imaging has increased almost to 5000 studies per year. Our standard dose for tumor imaging is 518 MBq of 18F-FDG. Five technologists performing all steps of 18F-FDG imaging (5 patients per technologist in a day) were officially involved round the week for handling and injecting 18F-FDG to patients. Whole-body and finger dose measurements with TLDs were performed for two different time periods: i) before shielding precautions during the first 6 months (without a shielding for sterile syringe and without a lead container for shielded syringe) and ii) after shielding precautions during the next 6 months (with a shielding for sterile syringe and with a lead container for shielded syringe). The average annual whole-body radiation dose for one technologist before shielding precautions was 7.82 mSv and after shielding precautions was 5.76 mSv. On the other hand, while the average annual finger radiation doses for one technologist before shielding precautions were 210.36 and 293.72 mSv for the left and right hand, after shielding precautions were they 158.16 and 217.58 mSv for the left and right hand, respectively. According to our results, if one technologist performs the whole-body PET imaging of 5 patients per day, the annual radiation dose to this technologist will not exceed the recommended limits by ICRP.

To doprowadza do niebezpiecznych eksplozji, kosztownych awarii i ewentualnego zanieczyszczenia środowiska. Podczas gdy mury ochronne otaczające transformator mogą zahamować eksplozje a tryskacze zagasić wywołany pożar niniejszy dokument przedstawia strategię, która zapobiega eksplozji kadzi transformatora.
Oil-filled transformer explosions are caused by electrical arc occurring in transformer tanks. Within milliseconds, arc vaporizes the surrounding oil and the generated gas is pressurized as the liquid inertia prevents its expansion. The pressure difference between the gas bubble and the surrounding oil generates pressure waves, which propagate and interact with the tank. The reflections of the pressure waves build up the static pressure, which rises and leads to the tank rupture since tanks are not designed to withstand such levels of static pressure. This results in dangerous explosions, expensive damages and possible environmental pollution. The current paper presents a strategy to prevent the transformer tank rupture. Once an electrical fault occurs, the fast depressurization of the tank is induced by quick oil evacuation to a reservoir in order to prevent the tank explosion. To evaluate the efficiency of this strategy, experiments and computer simulations are used. The experiments were performed on large scale transformers equipped with the protection. They confirmed that the protection prevents the explosion. Besides, simulations of the consequences of an electrical arc occurring in a 200 MVA transformer geometry were run and again, they confirmed that the static pressure increase can be prevented by a quick oil evacuation triggered by the first dynamic pressure peak generated by the electrical arc.

Opis:
The electrical network is a man-made complex network that makes it difficult to monitor and control the power system with traditional monitoring devices. Traditional devices have some limitations in real-time synchronization monitoring which leads to unwanted behavior and causes new challenges in the operation and control of the power systems. A Phasor measurement unit (PMU) is an advanced metering device that provides an accurate real-time and synchronized measurement of the voltage and current waveforms of the buses in which the PMU devices are directly connected in the grid station. The device is connected to the busbars of the power grid in the electrical distribution and transmission systems and provides time-synchronized measurement with the help of the Global Positioning System (GPS). However, the implementation and maintenance cost of the device is not bearable for the electrical utilities. Therefore, in recent work, many optimization approaches have been developed to overcome optimal placement of PMU problems to reduce the overall cost by providing complete electrical network observability with a minimal number of PMUs. This research paper reviews the importance of PMU for the modern electrical power system, the architecture of PMU, the differences between PMU, micro-PMU, SCADA, and smart grid (SG) relation with PMU, the sinusoidal waveform, and its phasor representation, and finally a list of PMU applications. The applications of PMU are widely involved in the operation of power systems ranging from power system control and monitor, distribution grid control, load shedding control and analyses, and state estimation which shows the importance of PMU for the modern world.
