    Opis:
    In this paper, the performance of an energy detector in cognitive radio, using different diversity combining techniques, is evaluated. Among many diversity combining techniques, maximal ratio combining (MRC) gives the best results but at the cost of the highest complexity. To design a simpler receiver, it is suggested to use less complex combining techniques, i.e. switched diversity, which provides one of the least complex solutions to combat fading. The paper analyzes two switched diversity schemes, switch examine combining (SEC), and switch examine combining with post examining selection (SECp). A closed form expression determining the probability of detection using MRC, SEC and SECp is derived for various numbers of branches. Detection performance with different diversity combining techniques is compared and the complexity trade-off is observed.

    New fixed point results are presented for multivalued maps defined on subsets of a Fréchet space E. The proof relies on the notion of a pseudo open set, degree and index theory, and on viewing E as the projective limit of a sequence of Banach spaces.

    The investigation involved treatment of pre-soaked seeds (11h) of a mungbean cutivar, PUSA 9072 with five doses of ethyl methane suphonate (EMS) at 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1% for 4hr under dark. Observation on field grown mutagenized population with regard to 14 agronomic characters evidenced for induction of the variability in the M1 generation itself.     Background. Literature among fishermen of India is scanty. The external factors like diet, quality of dental hygiene and environmental factors have an effect on oral health. Moreover elderly age group offer very little importance towards their oral health. Objective. To assess the prosthetic status and prosthetic treatment needs among the geriatric fishermen population of Kutch coast, Gujarat, India. Material and Methods. A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted among 1200 elderly people (above 60 years) of Kutch coast, Gujarat, India. They were interviewed and examined using a proforma designed with the help of WHO Oral Health Survey 1997. Chi square test was used for comparisons. Confidence level and p-value were set at 95% and 5% respectively. Results. Out of 1200 elderly people, 836 were males and 364 were females. Considering the prosthetic status, majority (76.7%) had no prosthesis followed by full removable dentures (12.3%). An insight into the prosthetic needs showed that majority (27.3%) had a need for multiunit prosthesis. Conclusion. In this study, it was seen that overall prosthetic status was low and prosthetic need was high. Therefore new avenues have to be discovered to make the prosthetic treatment readily available to the elderly.

    Quantum mechanical arguments show that any optical amplifier must add noise to the amplified beam of light. For the case of a high gain amplifier with a coherent (Poissonian) input, the signal-to-noise ratio of the amplified beam must be at least two times smaller than that of the incident beam. We review the theoretical basis of this prediction. We also describe the results of our experimental investigations of the noise properties of optical amplifiers that utilize the nonlinear optical response of strongly driven atomic transitions.

    We show that single peridinin-chlorophyll a-protein light-harvesting complexes from dinoflagellate Amphidinium carterae placed near to silver nanoparticles show strongly enhanced fluorescence emission. Single molecule spectroscopy experiments performed at room temperature point toward an enhancement of more than an order of magnitude for optimal conditions. Irrespective of the enhancement, we observe no effect of the metal nanoparticle on the fluorescence emission energy of the complex. This result provides a way to control the optical properties of biomolecules via plasmon excitations in metal nanoparticles.
