Opis:
Background: Dengue is one of the major public health problems in the world, affecting more than fifty million cases in tropical and subtropical region every year. The metabolome, as pathophysiological end-points, provide significant understanding of the mechanism and progression of dengue pathogenesis via changes in the metabolite profile of infected patients. Recent developments in diagnostic technologies provide metabolomics for the early detection of infectious diseases. Methods: The mid-stream urine was collected from 96 patients diagnosed with dengue fever at Penang General Hospital (PGH) and 50 healthy volunteers. Urine samples were analyzed with proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, followed by chemometric multivariate analysis. NMR signals highlighted in the orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) S-plots were selected and identified using Human Metabolome Database (HMDB) and Chenomx Profiler. A highly predictive model was constructed from urine profile of dengue infected patients versus healthy individuals with the total R2Y (cum) value 0.935, and the total Q2Y (cum) value 0.832. Results: Data showed that dengue infection is related to amino acid metabolism, tricarboxylic acid intermediates cycle and β-oxidation of fatty acids. Distinct variations in certain metabolites were recorded in infected patients including amino acids, various organic acids, betaine, valerylglycine, myo-inositol and glycine. Conclusion: Metabolomics approach provides essential insight into host metabolic disturbances following dengue infection.

Opis:
There are three well-established detecting methods for cycle slip error, which are: Doppler measurement method, Phase-Code differencing method, and Phase-Phase Differencing Method. The first method depends on the comparison between observables and the fact that Doppler measurements are immune to cycle slip error. This method is considered as the most precise method for cycle slip detecting, because it succeed in detecting and predicting the smallest cycle slip size (1 cycle) in case the local oscillator has low bias. The second method depends on the comparison between observables (phase and code) and the code measurements are immune to the cycle slip error. But this method can’t detect or predict cycle slip size smaller than 10 cycles, because the code measurements have high noise. The third method depends on the comparison between observables (phase 1 and phase 2) and the phases measurements that have low noise. But this method can’t detect or predict cycle slip size smaller than 5 cycles, because the ionospheric change might have a high variation. For enhancing the precision of the last two methods in detecting the smallest cycle slip which size reaches 1 cycle, a new algorithm was developed in this research to determine the change in the ionospheric values and the code bias from epoch to epoch. That is done by solving all observables equations by least square technique. This modification on these methods succeed in detecting and predicting cycle slips of size of 1 cycle.
Dla zwiększenia dokładności ostatnich dwóch metod i możliwości wykrycia pojedynczych przeskoków cyklu zaproponowano nowy algorytm wykrywania przeskoków fazy wywołanych zmianami stanu jonosfery pomiędzy epokami. Zostało to osiągnięte poprzez rozwiązywanie wszystkich równań obserwacyjnych metodą najmniejszych kwadratów. Ta modyfikacja pozwoliła wykrywać nawet pojedyncze przeskoki cyklu.

Opis:
Objectives The aim of this work has been to find out the occupational oxidative stress, immunological and genotoxic health hazards among α-cypermethrin (CYP) pesticide-exposed workers. Material and Methods A cross-sectional study was performed including 200 workers divided into 3 groups according to the level of exposure: highly exposed group (50 workers), moderately exposed group (50 workers) and unexposed group (100 workers). All workers were subjected to detailed laboratory investigation for gene P53 mutations, immunological parameters as a cluster of differentiation into 3 percentage (CD3%), CD4% and CD8% in addition to peripheral blood total leukocytic and platelet counts that were measured. Spectrophotometer technique was used for detection of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Air samples were collected with a High Volume Small Surface Sampler for measurement of α-cypermethrin level. Results A highly exposed group to the α-cypermethrin had lower CD4/CD8 as compared to an unexposed group with statistically significant difference. As regards gene mutation, exons 5a and 6 were more frequent among the highly exposed group as compared to no mutation among moderately exposed and unexposed groups with significant difference. As regards antioxidants; SOD, CAT, GSH and GPx were higher among the unexposed group as compared to the highly and moderately exposed group with statistically significant difference. Significant negative correlation was found between working years and antioxidant parameters. Conclusions Repeated exposure to α-CYP may lead to gene mutations, immunological disturbances and oxidative stress. Strict safety precautions are required not only for workers but also for public users. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2017;30(4):603–615

Opis:
Introduction. Although most organizations recommend breastfeeding for at least one year due to its well-known beneficial effects, the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in many developing countries was quite low. Aim. To identify prevalence and predictive factors affecting exclusive breastfeeding in Primary Healthcare (PHC) Centers in Cairo, Egypt. Material and methods. A cross-sectional study, among mothers attended first six months immunization sessions in three PHC Centers were selected via a convenient sample, A total sample of 180 mothers, 60 from each PHC Center, were subjected to an interview questionnaire. The questionnaire used was previously validated and pre-tested. Data collection took the period from April to August 2019. Comparison between exclusive and nonexclusive breastfeeding according to possible risk factors was done. Results. The frequency of breastfeeding among the participants was 90.6%; however the total exclusive breastfeeding frequency was only 39.4%. Our logistic regression model showed that exclusive breastfeeding decreased with progressive increase in infant’s age (OR 0.74), and mothers with good knowledge about proper practice of breastfeeding adhered more to exclusive breastfeeding (OR 2.51). Also, it showed that, during working hours, mothers who fed their infants other than breast milk adhered less to exclusive breastfeeding (OR 0.19). Conclusion. The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding is quite low. The predictive factors for exclusive breastfeeding are, younger infant’s age, good knowledge of the mothers about proper practice of breastfeeding, and mothers insisting on breastfeeding during working hours.
