This qualitative exploration is a follow-up study to the quantitative research published in a peer-reviewed international journal in 2023. Generally, the study delved into the transition experiences and preferences of 20 Filipino education supervisors in relation to their supervisory practices in over 80 Philippine public schools. Through validated open-ended interview questions, the responses were gathered and subsequently subjected to thematic analysis, which resulted in the emergence of the following themes: (1) the adjustments and challenges of the supervisors as they switched back from technology-assisted to in-person supervision; and (2) their preferred mode of supervision in the new normal of education.

Opis:
INTRODUCTION: Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) has emerged as a prevalent therapy for chronic neuropathic pain and failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) over the past three decades, offering various stimulation types differentiated primarily by frequency. CASE REPORT: A 51-year-old male patient in 2016 underwent lumbar discectomy – L4/L5 due to symptomatic discopathy, which resulted in pain relief; however, the symptoms returned. In 2021 a Stimwave high-frequency (HF) SCS was placed epidurally at Th8–Th10. The patient reported substantial improvement after stimulation, nevertheless, after two weeks there was sudden exacerbation of his symptoms, especially in the lumbar region. Despite multiple attempts at program change and confirmation of the electrode location, there was no improvement. The HF stimulator was not removed owing to the risk of complications and 20% relief of pain in the right lower limb. After two years he was qualified for the implantation of newer generation of stimulators – BurstDR™ stimulation. An epidural electrode was implanted at Th8–Th10, followed by the placement of a BurstDR™ pulse generator. Currently, the patient has two active electrodes, one with HF stimulation, the other with BurstDR™ stimulation. CONCLUSIONS: Our case report demonstrates that there is no need to abandon SCS after the first failed attempt and it is worth trying stimulation with a different modulation. Furthermore, according to our center’s experience, the therapeutic effects of HF stimulation are quickly depleted and only after using burst stimulation was the expected result achieved. The reasons for this phenomenon are unknown and should be further researched.
Ponadto z doświadczeń naszego ośrodka wynika, że efekt terapeutyczny stymulacji typu HF szybko ulegał wyczerpaniu, a dopiero zastosowanie stymulacji BurstDR™ powodowało dużą poprawę w zmniejszeniu dolegliwości bólowych. Przyczyna tego zjawiska powinna stać się przedmiotem dalszych badań.

Opis:
This paper uses a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to reduce total tardiness in an identical parallel machine scheduling problem. The proposed GA is a crossover-free (vegetative reproduction) GA but used for four types of mutations (Two Genes Exchange mutation, Number of Jobs mutation, Flip Ends mutation, and Flip Middle mutation) to make the required balance between the exploration and exploitation functions of the crossover and mutation operators. The results showed that use of these strategies positively affects the accuracy and robustness of the proposed GA in minimizing the total tardiness. The results of the proposed GA are compared to the mathematical model in terms of the time required to tackle the proposed problem. The findings illustrate the ability of the propounded GA to acquire the results in a short time compared to the mathematical model. On the other hand, increasing the number of machines degraded the performance of the proposed GA.

Opis:
Background. The bacterial infections treatment is complicated by antibiotic resistance. In this fact, the need for new therapeutic approaches to control bacterial infections is crucial. Therefore, discovering new antibiotics from medicinal plants, able to kill drug-resistant bacteria, is essential to saving modern medicine. Objective. This study was to evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of Salvia officinalis essential oil (SoEO) growing in Morocco. Material and methods. The essential oil was extracted by hydro distillation, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were determined by agar dilution method. The essential oil was analyzed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and fractionated/purified using column chromatography followed by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). Results. The results revealed that SoEO showed higher antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecalis and Citrobacter freundii. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis, and purification/fractionation of SoEO, indicates that the most polar fraction F6 is the active fraction of SoEO. This finding can be explained by the existence of polar compounds in this fraction including alcohols, and phenols as thymol, eugenol, globulol, and spathulenol. Conclusions. It can be conclude that alcohols and phenols from Salvia officinalis essential oil (SoEO) have promising antibacterial activity. This action can offer a great possibility of the application of SoEO in the treatment of bacterial diseases.

Opis:
Background. COVID-19 pandemic has been a source of emerging public health problems for the past few years. Due to its contagious nature, health care professionals especially dentists, incorporated various modifications in their practices to prevent themselves and their patients from the risk of getting infected. Objective. The present study aims to assess whether dental professionals are still continuing with those modifications in practice in current times. Materials and Methods. The present study was conducted on 415 subjects after getting due approval from concerned authorities and consent from the subjects. Systematic random sampling methodology was employed for selection for study sample. The study employed a self-constructed questionnaire which was divided into 2 parts and information regarding demographic profile, practice modifications and safety protocols was gathered from subjects. Statistical analysis was conducted using Chi-square test and multiple regression analysis. Results. Only 8.6% of subjects were currently continuing with their all previous practice modifications. A vast majority of subjects (83.8%) were not deferring treatment of patients showing suspicious symptoms. Approximately 89% of subjects were not sanitizing the operating area at the end of the working day. More than two-thirds (76.4%) of the subjects stated that the pandemic was over. Female gender (OR:1.67) and high level of education (OR:2.45) had an important effect on the continuation of practice modifications. Conclusion. Very few subjects were adhering to all practice modifications previously incorporated. Dental professionals should not let their guard down even if COVID-19 cases have reduced considerably. The information collected will be useful for the dental community and further studies should be carried out.

Opis:
The sensitivity of III-V-based infrared detectors is critically dependent upon the carrier concentration and mobility of the absorber layer, and thus, accurate knowledge of each is required to design structures for maximum detector performance. Here, measurements of the bulk in-plane resistivity, in-plane mobility, and carrier concentration as a function of temperature are reported for non-intentionally doped and Si-doped mid-wave infrared InAs₀.₉₁Sb₀.₀₉ alloy and InAs/InAs₀.₆₅Sb₀.₃₅ type-II superlattice materials grown on GaSb substrates. Standard temperature- and magnetic-field-dependent resistivity and the Hall measurements on mesa samples in the van der Pauw configuration are performed, and multicarrier fitting and modelling are used to isolate transport of each carrier species. The results show that up to 5 carrier species of the surface, interface and bulk variety contribute to conduction, with bulk electron and hole mobility up to 2·10⁵ cm²/V s and 8·10³ cm²/V s, respectively and background dopant concentration levels were between 10¹⁴ and 10¹⁵ cm¯³. The in-plane mobility temperatures dependence is determined and trends of each carrier species with temperature and dose are analysed.

Opis:
Antibiotics are used for postsurgical wound healing purposes but unfortunately, resistance against them demands some alternatives for quick recovery. Sepsis of wounds is a challenge for medical as well as veterinary professionals. Nanoparticles have significant advantages in wound treatment and drug resistance reversal. This study was conducted to appreciate emerging alternates of antibiotics like zinc oxide nanoparticles and plant extracts in topical application. Zinc oxide is considered a good wound healer and its nanoparticles are easy to access. So, the efficacies of zinc oxide nanoparticles and sweet flag plant extract ointments were tested to compare modern and traditional therapeutics as sweet flag is considered a pure medicinal plant. Rabbits were selected for this study due to the healing properties of their skin. Wounds were inflicted on the thoracolumbar region and treated for 29 days post-surgically daily with normal saline and the ointment of zinc oxide nanoparticles and sweet flag extract ointment, prepared in a hydrophilic solvent. Wound shrinkage was observed daily and histopathological analysis was made and results were compared. Zinc oxide nanoparticles ointment showed the most satisfactory results for every parameter included in the study. No side effects of its topical application were observed. Healing was normal without any complications. The preparations of zinc oxide nanoparticles may help in the era of antibiotic resistance as topical drugs in the future.

Opis:
The purpose of the present study was to examine the connections between heavy metal concentrations in the soil, pasture grass, and livestock manure on farms located in an acidic soil zone of central Thailand. Samples of the soil, grass, and livestock manure were collected from three farms, and were tested for Cd, Pb, As, and Hg. Multiple indicators were employed to assess the pollution levels of the farm soils. The results showed that the amounts of heavy metals in the soil were in the order Pb > Hg > Cd > As; in grass the order was Pb > As > Cd > Hg, and in livestock manure this was Pb > As > Hg > Cd. The soil pH level influenced the quantities of Hg and Ag in the soil. Concerning individual indicators, Igeo and CF indices showed that Hg was present at high levels in farm soils, but an integrated indicator PLI was less than 1, suggesting that soil in the farms was not significantly contaminated, in contrast to the individual indicators. Heavy metal accumulation depended on the species of grass, and the element content in manure was higher than in grass used for feeding the animals, including supplements given to animals by farmers. However, the levels of Cd in the livestock farms demonstrated a relationship among soil, grass, and manure. The heavy metals in manure from animal farms were below the thresholds at which they could be utilized as a soil amendments for organic farming or for safe food production. However, the heavy metals in the farm soil could possibly be dispersed to other locations.
