Opis:
This qualitative exploration is a follow-up study to the quantitative research published in a peer-reviewed international journal in 2023. Generally, the study delved into the transition experiences and preferences of 20 Filipino education supervisors in relation to their supervisory practices in over 80 Philippine public schools. Through validated open-ended interview questions, the responses were gathered and subsequently subjected to thematic analysis, which resulted in the emergence of the following themes: (1) the adjustments and challenges of the supervisors as they switched back from technology-assisted to in-person supervision; and (2) their preferred mode of supervision in the new normal of education.

Opis:
Seminal plasma (SP) proteins are responsible for sperm functional quality. Developing a reliable method to determine the degree of oxidative damage of these proteins is important for establishing semen fertilizing ability. The main aim of the study was to verify the applicability of protein carbonyl derivatives measurement in the SP of canine and stallion, using a method with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH). The research material consisted of ejaculates obtained from eight English Springer Spaniels, and from seven half-blood stallions during the breeding and non-breeding season. The content of carbonyl groups in the SP was measured on the basis of the reactions with DNPH. The following reagent variants were used to dissolve protein precipitates: Variant 1 (V1) – 6M Guanidine solution and Variant 2 (V2) – 0.1M NaOH solution. It has been shown that to obtain reliable results for the measurement of protein carbonylated groups in the dog and horse SP, both 6M Guanidine and 0.1M NaOH may be used. A correlation was also found between the number of carbonyl groups and the total protein content in the canine (V1: r = -0.724; V2: r = -0.847) and stallion (V1: r = -0.336; V2: r = -0.334) SP. Additionally, the study showed a higher content (p≤0.05) of protein carbonyl groups in the stallion SP in the non-breeding season compared to the breeding season. The method based on the reaction with DNPH, due to its simplicity and cost effectiveness, appears to be suitable for large-scale application in the determination of the SP proteins oxidative damage in dog and horse semen.

Opis:
We analyse the accuracy of a deconvolution (inverse filtering) method in 1D and 2D periodic domains. The deconvolution is performed by applying the iterative van Cittert method using explicit and compact filters of the 2nd to 8th order. We consider cases in which an approximate inverse filter $ G_\alpha^{-1} $ formulated to deconvolve an original function from a filtered one $ ( \overline{f} = G \ast f ) $ is constructed based on: (a) $G$ the same as used to define $ \overline{f} = G \ast f $; (b) $ G $ different than the one used to define $ \overline{f} = G \ast f $. In case (a), the convergence rate of the deconvolution process is much better when compact filters are used. This is attributed to a flatter transfer function of this type of filter and thus a smaller deterioration of the input function $ \overline{f} $. Case (b) reflects a real situation in which the precise definition of a basic filter $G$ used in $ \overline{f} = G \ast f $ is unknown. We found that when $ G_\alpha^{-1} $ is formulated based on $G$ of a higher order than the one used to define $ \overline{f} $ the reconstructed function $ f^\ast = G_\alpha^{-1} \ast \overline{f} $ is suppressed compared to the original function $f$. On the other hand, the deconvolution process performed with the use of $ G_\alpha^{-1} $ defined based on $G$ of a lower order than the order of the basic filter significantly amplifies the reconstructed function $ f^\ast $. As a result, the function $ f^\ast $ contains more energy than the function $f$, especially in the range of small and high-frequency scales. This effect is particularly strong when explicit filters of different orders are used. The impact of the filter type in the practical application of deconvolution is demonstrated based on large eddy simulations (LES) of a 2D decaying homogenous turbulent flow. LES combined with an approximate deconvolution method (ADM) for the computation of sub-filter terms shows better accuracy than in the case when these terms are modelled using the classical Smagorinsky model or when they are neglected (no-model approach). This analysis consists of comparisons of the evolution of total energy, energy spectra, and higher-order moments (variance, skewness, kurtosis) of the velocity components and vorticity. We found that more accurate results are obtained when the deconvolution is performed using the explicit filters even if the deconvolution process based on the compact filters was found to converge faster in 1D and 2D test cases. Most likely this is because in the performed LES the explicit filters correspond better to an unknown filter induced by discretisation.

Opis:
Background. The consumption of food supplements is increasing. This evolution is due to several factors, including nutritional deficiencies in the population, a sedentary lifestyle, and a decrease in physical activity. In addition, stress and an active lifestyle led to several dysfunctions (fatigue, deconcentration) that food supplements can help to overcome. Objective. This study aimed to determine the profiles of food supplement consumers in the Fes-Meknes region (Morocco), distribution, and production of these products. In addition, this survey aimed to evaluate consumers’ knowledge of food supplements as part of their self-medication. Material and methods. The present study was conducted in the form of a survey using a questionnaire composed of two parts. The first part provides information on the socio-demographic status of respondents, including gender, age, and level of education. The second part concerned various information on the consumption of food supplements. Results. The results obtained showed that of the 498 subjects, 68.88% declared that they had already consumed the food supplements. The study revealed the predominance of the female gender at 69.68% and the age group 21-30 years (80.32%). Among the reasons for consumption, improving general health comes first with 56.29%. Our results also showed high consumption of vitamins (44.04%) and minerals (24.79%), next come proteins and plant extracts at 16.62% and 14.54% respectively. The consumption of food supplements is most often done on the advice of a doctor or dietician with 43.60%, and the pharmacy and para-pharmacy remains the main distribution channel at 75.78%. Conclusion. The present survey allowed us to update the current situation of food supplement consumption and a way of regulatory monitoring and more control for an organization of the sector.

Opis:
This work is focused on the modelling of experimental behaviour of a bone-shape sample made of aluminium alloy AW5083 under tension. This behaviour involves propagating instabilities, namely Lueders bands and the Portevin–Le Chatelier effect. A series of experiments was performed at room temperature for three loading rates, showing the instabilities and failure. In the paper a large strain thermovisco-plasticity model is proposed and used for finite element simulations. This model contains initial softening and a hardening function based on the Estrin–McCormick concept to represent serrations and travelling shear bands. The issues of instability sources and regularisation are considered. The predictive capabilities of the model are examined. The proposed models are able to reproduce both Lueders bands and the PLC effect. Simulation results show good agreement with experiments regarding force–displacement diagrams and temperature levels.
