Objectives This study aimed to evaluate cytogenetic damage in the buccal mucosa of non-exposed subjects (N = 33) and insecticide-exposed fumigators (N = 31) in the urban area of Cali, Colombia. Material and Methods Through a questionnaire sociodemographic data, anthropometric measurements, state of health, and lifestyle were collected. Buccal micronucleus cytome (BMCyt) assay was using for evaluate cytogenetic damage. Results The study showed that all fumigators used adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) and had low alcohol consumption. The authors did not find significant differences in BMCyt biomarkers between the groups (p > 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed a 13% increase in micronucleus (MN) frequency for every year of increasing age (OR = 1.13, p = 0.029), and higher MN with the decrease in daily fruit consumption (OR = 4.71, p = 0.084), without statistical significance. Conclusions The results between groups could be related to healthy habits and PPE use among the subjects.

The union of different devices in order to obtain a specific response for a process is commonly called a control system. For a control system, it is necessary to have one or more controllers. Among the most used in the industrial sector are the PID and PI controllers. Next to these controllers is the control software. Scilab is a good example of control software. It is characterized as free code software, with no cost for its acquisition, in addition to having a large computational power and integrated tools, such as Xcos, intended for modeling and simulation. For the union with Scilab, there is Arduino. Such a mixture can be used, for example, to control liquid levels in tanks. In this context, the present work aims to study the tank-level control system based on PID and PI controllers through the union between Scilab and Arduino. Phenomenological models were developed based on closed-loop control (feedback control system) of the process with two tanks not coupled with recycle. Furthermore, for comparison purposes, two approaches were used for each process: one considering the saturation of the manipulated variable and the other without the presence of such saturation. At first, there was a need to implement an anti-windup system. For tuning the controller parameters, the ISE method was used, executed through a programming code developed in Scilab. The parameters found for the two systems were tested on a made-up experimental bench. Therefore, using the block diagrams and the method here called “ISE method”, satisfactory values were obtained for the control parameters. These were ratified in the tests carried out in the experimental module. Level control was achieved with greater prominence for the PI controller since there is one less parameter to be tuned and processed by the system. This controller provided results close to the PID controller for cycles up to 50%. In general, the PI controller showed maximum response deviations smaller than the PID, such as deviations of 1.55 cm and 2.40 cm, respectively, for the case with 75% recycle. It was also clear the influence of the saturation of the manipulated variable on the system response, but not on the tuning of the controller parameterseters.

Background. The main job of employees working in the area of fuel service stations is to provide refueling services to customers. Therefore, operators at petrol stations may be exposed to chemicals for long periods, potentially affecting their health in nervous system. Objectives. This study aims to assess the risk of benzene exposure to the nervous system in gas station operators. Data were collected from 100 fuel service personnel working at fuel dispensers and 100 employees working outside fuel dispensers, accounting to 200 cases. Material and methods. Data were collected using interview questionnaires. Urine samples were used for the analysis of t,t-muconic acid. Results. The results showed that t,t-muconic acid concentration is 431.23 ± 233.69 μg/g.cr (449.28 ± 213.32 μg/g.cr at fuel dispensers vs 413.18 ± 252.20 μg/g.cr outside fuel dispensers). The risk characterization results showed that most of the risks were at level 1 (low risk), as observed in 108 people (54.0%). The results of the analysis of the relationship between t,t-muconic acid concentrations classified by 3 levels of percentile and neurological disorders of the study group, the results showed that there was a statistically significant relationship (p-value <0.05). Conclusion. Therefore, the benzene neurotoxic risk assessment model could be utilized in field practice.

The sensitivity of III-V-based infrared detectors is critically dependent upon the carrier concentration and mobility of the absorber layer, and thus, accurate knowledge of each is required to design structures for maximum detector performance. Here, measurements of the bulk in-plane resistivity, in-plane mobility, and carrier concentration as a function of temperature are reported for non-intentionally doped and Si-doped mid-wave infrared InAs₀.₉₁Sb₀.₀₉ alloy and InAs/InAs₀.₆₅Sb₀.₃₅ type-II superlattice materials grown on GaSb substrates. Standard temperature- and magnetic-field-dependent resistivity and the Hall measurements on mesa samples in the van der Pauw configuration are performed, and multicarrier fitting and modelling are used to isolate transport of each carrier species. The results show that up to 5 carrier species of the surface, interface and bulk variety contribute to conduction, with bulk electron and hole mobility up to 2·10⁵ cm²/V s and 8·10³ cm²/V s, respectively and background dopant concentration levels were between 10¹⁴ and 10¹⁵ cm¯³. The in-plane mobility temperatures dependence is determined and trends of each carrier species with temperature and dose are analysed.

This paper presents a comparative study among methods of allocation of fixed costs in Distribution Networks (DNs). The application of these methods allows obtaining distribution use-of-system charges. Three pricing mechanisms composed of two part tariffs are evaluated. In the three mechanisms, the first part is obtained by the Long Run Incremental Cost (LRIC) method. The second one is determined by the following methods: Postage Stamp (PS), MW-Mile (MWM) or Ramsey-Boiteux (RB). The characterization and comparison of each method are performed from the point of view of regulatory principles that define guidelines on network pricing. The results allow identifying the adherence of the methods in compliance with the regulatory principles. Conflicting character between different principles is observed. The methods are tested and validated in the IEEE13-node distribution network. A study along these lines points to the proposition of new alternatives in pricing the use of DNs in the face of the growth of Distributed Energy Resources.

There are many manufacturers on the market offering various types of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The multitude of drones available on the market means that the choice of a UAV for a specific application appears to be a decision problem to be solved. The aim of this article is a comparative analysis of drones used in photogrammetric surveys. The criteria for evaluating the UAVs were: availability and product support, payload (min. 5 kg), price (PLN 100,000), as well as space available for measurement modules. These are the requirements that must be met for the implementation of the INNOBAT project, the aim of which is to develop an integrated system using autonomous unmanned aerial and surface vehicles, intended for bathymetric monitoring in the coastal zone. The comparative analysis of drones was based on 27 companies producing UAV. Based on the analysis, 6 drones that met the project requirements were selected. They were: Aurelia X6 Pro, Aurelia X8 Standard LE, DroneHexa AG, FOX-C8 XT, Hercules 10 and Zoe X4. Selected UAVs differ from each other, among others, in the number of rotors, flight duration and resistance to weather conditions. Individual characteristics of drones may have a different rank depending on their application, therefore the selection of UAVs should be made after prioritisation criteria of a given project.

The main purpose of our study is to treat the stability problem of the phosphate Kef Essennoun quarry in the mining field of Jebel Onk located in the Northeastern part of Algeria. To achieve these objectives, we started by monitoring the unstable area, using two monitoring systems: control stations and inclinometer. We then carried out a digital assessment of the Northwestern edge stability of the quarry, under the current operating conditions of exploitation. After that, we proposed a new operating plan for the reopening of the depot under the required security conditions. At the end, we carried out an assessment of the edge stability, as the work to reopen and develop the Kef Essennoun quarry progressed. The results show that, under the current operating conditions of exploitation, the Northwestern edge of the Kef Essennoun quarry is unstable (FS<1). The backfilling of the pilot pit of the mine, lead to the assurance of the mine walls stability, by increasing the values of safety factors with a rate of more than 30%. The backfilling of the pilot pit of the mine and the resumption of top-down mining exploitation will ensure the stability of the quarry during and after the operating exploitation mining. The study of the stability of the embankments bleachers, the edges of the quarries and the facings of the slag heaps during the open pit mining of useful ores deposits is an essential step that must be done gradually according to the development of mining works to guarantee the safety of personnel, materials, reserves and the environment.
Głównym celem naszych badań jest rozwiązanie problemu stateczności kamieniołomu fosforytów Kef Essennoun w obszarze górniczym Jebel Onk zlokalizowanym w północno-wschodniej części Algierii. Aby osiągnąć te cele, rozpoczęliśmy od monitorowania niestabilnego obszaru przy użyciu dwóch systemów monitorowania: stacji kontrolnych i inklinometru. Następnie przeprowadziliśmy cyfrową ocenę stabilności północno-zachodniej krawędzi kamieniołomu w obecnych warunkach eksploatacji. Następnie zaproponowaliśmy nowy plan operacyjny dla ponownego otwarcia zajezdni w wymaganych warunkach bezpieczeństwa. Na koniec przeprowadziliśmy ocenę stabilności krawędzi w miarę postępu prac nad ponownym otwarciem i zagospodarowaniem kamieniołomu Kef Essennoun. Wyniki pokazują, że w obecnych warunkach eksploatacji północno-zachodnia krawędź kamieniołomu Kef Essennoun jest niestabilna (FS<1). Zasypanie wyrobiska pilotażowego kopalni doprowadziło do zapewnienia stabilności ścian kopalni poprzez zwiększenie wartości współczynników bezpieczeństwa o ponad 30%. Zasypanie wyrobiska pilotażowego kopalni i wznowienie odgórnej eksploatacji górniczej zapewni stateczność kamieniołomu w trakcie i po zakończeniu eksploatacji górniczej. Badanie stateczności obwałowań, krawędzi kamieniołomów i okładzin hałd żużla podczas odkrywkowej eksploatacji złóż rud użytecznych jest niezbędnym krokiem, który należy wykonywać stopniowo, zgodnie z rozwojem prac górniczych, aby zagwarantować bezpieczeństwo personelu, materiałów, zasobów i środowiska.

The field programmable gate array (FPGA) is used to build an artificial neural network in hardware. Architecture for a digital system is devised to execute a feed-forward multilayer neural network. ANN and CNN are very commonly used architectures. Verilog is utilized to describe the designed architecture. For the computation of certain tasks, a neural network’s distributed architecture structure makes it potentially efficient. The same features make neural nets suitable for application in VLSI technology. For the hardware of a neural network, a single neuron must be effectively implemented (NN). Reprogrammable computer systems based on FPGAs are useful for hardware implementations of neural networks.

Purpose Hydroponics, also known as controlled environment agriculture, is a method of cultivating plants and herbs without soil using mineral-supplemented solutions. Agriculture biotechnology enhances its wings on developing genetically modified plants for expanding crop yield and introducing characteristic features such as growing seasonal crops throughout the year, weather-resistant, and pest resistance. Compared to traditional agriculture, hydroponic cultivation yields high-quality crops with 90% more efficient use of water. Therefore, hydroponic cultivation could be considered a succeeding future of agriculture. In this context, understanding agriculture through the hydroponic route is vital for the efficient cultivation of crops. This review elaborates on the different classes of hydroponic systems and the factors that enable the systematic elements of the frame-up. Design/methodology/approach The significant intent of this review is to provide information on distinct hydroponic systems. Findings The present review reports a comprehensive discussion about the significance of the hydroponics system, its mechanism, nutrient solution preparation, types of hydroponic setup, and the challenges faced and would light up the knowledge in the same. Originality/value This review focus on the current feasible hydroponic method of crop cultivation.

This study investigates the challenges and opportunities of using cloud-based simulators for training in maritime education and training (MET). The aim is to map bachelor students’ use and perspectives to inform educational design when implementing cloud simulation into the curricula. This study uses an ethnographic design approach in the tradition of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) and draws on video-recorded exercises and interviews (n=22) from 1st and 3rd-class maritime bachelor’s students engaged in navigation exercises on cloud simulation. The findings suggest that individual training with cloud-based simulators in MET can enhance the repetition of skills necessary for better performance in a full-mission simulator with current technology and rather straightforward instructional designs. However, the findings also emphasise that simulator exercises need to be more engaging for students in order to provide a meaningful learning experience. Hence, simulator software needs to provide the means for students to collaborate during exercises, and feedback provided by the system needs to be carefully aligned with the student’s previous knowledge in order to provide adequate scaffolding.
