Opis:
The article focuses on the main aspects of creation of political system of the New South Africa. The term „New South Africa" was introduced mainly after passing the Interim Constitution in the end of 1993 and after free and fair election in April 1994 to underline fundamental difference between South Africa under apartheid period and forming democratic South Africa. To begin with, attention is paid to internal and external conditions (political, economic and social), which affected a process of dismantling apartheid. Round table talks CODESA and difficulties of these negotiations was analysed in details as well as The Interim Constitution based on democratic standards were examined. The crowning of the changes in the South African political system was free and fair election in 1994. The main figure of the changes became N. Mandela who was appointed as a President. The next significant event in creation of the political system was passing of the new constitution of 1997, which defined basic principles of the system and strengthened legal base of the South African democracy. Further, the changes at the South African political scene was analysed with emphasis to dominant role of the African National Congress. In the end, an assessment on functioning of the political system of the New South Africa was made, taking into consideration its positive and negative aspects.

Opis:
The leadership qualities of political leaders in Africa are often characterized by historical and cultural determinants. It is a popu¬lar thought that the continent suffers from the crisis of leadership or lack of “good leaders”. The analyzed examples of two eminent South African politicians J. Smuts and N. Mandela represent a departure from this idea. Their respective political leadership styles and abilities stem from their particular personal traits and education. They are considered to be role models owing to their comportment and achievements. The role and influence of J. Smuts and N. Mandela on the situations in RSA and Africa as a whole cannot be overstated.

Opis:
Problem of borders and borderland is very crucial for contemporary Africa, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. The problem could be investigated in two perspectives. The first one focuses on the negative impact of arbitrary established boundaries by colonial powers and its maintenance by new independent states. Such "old-new" boundaries delimitated without respect of ethnic diversity groups were often sources of conflicts. The second perspective is a new scientific and political concept based on positive approach. In researches the new concept is called "New Regionalism" and "Micro Regionalism" and attracted quite large number of scientists, also in investigating African borderlands and cross-border cooperation. The engagement in the concept shows among others the African Union and regional integration organizations, including NGOs. Analysing political, economic, social and cultural (including ethnic issues) situation in Africa and in the world conclusion is made that Sub-Saharan African borderlands should be a regions of cooperation.

The article focuses on the selected issues of the Soviet Union's power politics towards South Africa, especially during the period of apartheid. Also the period before introduction of the apartheid in 1948 is mentioned. The problem is presented with the perspective of global Soviet foreign policy with particular reference to the situation in Southern Africa (support for anti-colonialism, liberation movements, new independent states and engagement in solving regional conflicts etc.). Special attention is drawn into the Soviet Union attitude towards white South African government as well as contacts and support for the African National Congress and in less extent for the South African Communist Party. The evolution of the Soviet Union's power politics towards South Africa, especially in the 80's and at the beginning of the 90's is underlined.

Opis:
The article focuses on circumstances connected with establishing consular posts of the Republic of Poland in the Union of South Africa. Their beginnings have fallen at the turn of 20's and 30's of the 20th century. The subject has not been yet investigated by foreign scholars. In Polish scientific literature still exists quite big discrepancies concerning even basic facts. The main reasons for establishing Polish consular post in the Union were political (will to posses colonies and to play superpower role in international relations), economic (raw materials, market for Polish goods) and demographic (settlement of Poles) nature. Initially Polish interests in the Union were represented by Polish Consul General in London. After disputes in the Polish Parliament and adoption of Polish foreign policy strategy it was decided to establish consular post in Cape Town. Polish authorities conferred the post of highest consular rank - Consulate General (1929) what meant special significance in creation of Polish - South African political and economic relations. The main task of the consulate was to promote Polish foreign trade and also maritime matters, public relations and care of Polish citizens. Due to lack of proper activity the Consulate General in Cape Town was reduced to the Consulate Honorary (1931) and then to the Consular Agency (1934). However during holding the function of consul by Jan Majewski and his predecessor Cyril Caro dynamic activity of the consular post was noted with straightening its staff. In 1938 Consular Agency was transformed into Consulate Honorary and a year later in Consulate. Moreover, after years of long efforts, Consular Agency in Johannesburg was opened (1938). The outbreak of the Second World War caused personal changes in the existing consular posts, but first and foremost initiated the process of establishing new consular posts: Consulate General in Pretoria (1940/1941) and Consular Agency in Durban (1942), since 1943 Consulate).

Opis:
The South African art is not uniform. It expresses cultural and civilization diversity of the country. In characterization of the art of white people in South Africa the article focuses above all on the fine arts (on painting and sculpture) but architecture, theatre and music were as taken into consideration. The art of white people in South Africa was being created and formed in specific conditions, far away from Europe. Although the art was powerfully influenced by Europe, especially in the initial period. In the beginning it was also very elite and quite impenetrable. It was not almost opened to the cultural heritage of the other inhabitants of South Africa. Together with the industrialization, increasing prosperity of white population, especially in the 20th century, significant development of the art of white people in this country occurred. At that time, artists derived inspirations as well from the African art. This art was creating its own and genuine style and some trends were strongly supported by authorities in Pretoria.

Special attention is drawn into contacts and cooperation between the Polish and Hungarian Diasporas associations in South Africa.

Opis:
The Polish diaspora in the RSA generally accepted the priorities of the Polish foreign policy focusing around the aspirations to integrate with the West European and Euro-Atlantic structures. At the beginning of the transformation period a full realization of these aims was seen as a program for distant future. Along with the „approaching” the united Europe tendencies began to appear to make the idea and the conception of the integration with European Communities instrumental in the political struggle in the successive election campaigns. Two tendencies were dominant here; the first one was connected with showing the threats or with frightening people with the consequences of the membership in the UE. Most often it referred to those layers of social awareness that were dominated by emotions, like a threat to the national identity or a decline in morality. Negative stereotypes of the Polish nation and stereotypes of West Europe were strengthened and deepened. The other tendency was first of all to show the positive aspects of Poland's future integration with the European Union, and its culmination fell on the period preceding the accession referendum in 2003. The diaspora was relatively well informed about Poland’s integration with the European Union, and first of all about the position particular political parties took about the issue. However, changes in the attitude of political parties towards Poland's accession to the UE had some, albeit slight, effect on the election preferences of the Polish community in the RPA. Pro-Union parties were considerably popular among its members.

Cooperation in terms of Afro-regions should largely be based on the experience of Euro-regions, but necessarily must take into account African specifics, especially through the use of a far greater degree of informal cross-border economy and trade. Borderlands as regions of cooperation constitute the realization of the idea of integration from the bottom. This will foster a process of open borders, which in turn will lead to a real acceleration of the integration processes. Moreover, on both sides of the border / boundaries it is possible to start the process of regional identity, especially among the young generation, which would be a kind of “resurrection” of existing links from the pre-colonial past.

At first, the aims of the party were presented with practise of their implementation (Afrikaner nationalism, Republicanism) during the inter-war period and especially after 1948 when the National Party, after winning election, started to rule South Africa continuously for 46 years. The phenomenon of supremacy of the National Party, its growing support among white electorate against a background of introducing apartheid policy and its later modifications are widely explained.
