    Research on automatic translation has recently become a very popular field of study for linguists. The process of adjusting data collected from language to meet the machine’s potential and effi ciency requires the knowledge and use of an accurate and effective methodology. The linguist’s task is not only to feed data collected from traditional language dictionaries into the computer’s memory, but it is also necessary to take into consideration all the relations that hold among the elements being described, as the aim of automatic translation is to enable the system to carry out an accurate and effective translation of texts. The paper is also an attempt to show how the object oriented approach proposed by W. Banyś resolves the problem of polysemy of words in a natural language which is one of the major problems in computer assisted translation. For the computer assisted translation to be exhaustive and effective, a process of disambiguation of a polysemous word should be carried out thus enabling a correct generation of its equivalents in a target language, which is presented on the basis of the English causative verb open.

    Opis:
    Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie dwóch międzyjęzykowych odpowiedników formalnych – francuskiego czasownika entrer i hiszpańskiego entrar. Autorka dokonuje opisu definicji obu leksemów dostępnych w dwóch wybranych do analiz słownikach dwujęzycznych (Grand dictionnaire français-polonais i Podręczny słownik hiszpańsko-polski) podkreślając podobieństwa i różnice w tłumaczeniach użyć obu czasowników na język polski. Zaznacza przy tym również braki oraz niezgodności w analizowanych definicjach. W dalszej kolejności zostaje podjęta próba opisu kilku najczęstszych użyć przestrzennych obu czasowników w oparciu o metodę zorientowaną obiektowo W. Banysia. Badanie to zmierza do szczegółowego opisu jednostek predykatywnych wraz ze wskazaniem budowy ich otoczenia składniowego oraz charakteru semantycznego jego elementów.
    The article aims to analyse two formal interlinguistic equivalents – the French verb entrer and its representation in Spanish – entrar. Firstly, the author will examine the definitions provided by two bilingual dictionaries of her choice (Grand dictionnaire français-polonais and Podręczny słownik hiszpańsko-polski) underlining the similarities and differences on the basis of their translations into Polish language and demonstrating their lacks and inadequacies. Afterwards, she will present the lexicographical description for the automatic translation named object oriented approach, proposed by W. Banyś. In this study the two chosen verbs can adopt a detailed representation with a syntactic and semantic specification of the objects in their surround.

    Artykuł skupia się na analizie semantycznego charakteru greckiego przysłówka εὖ oraz jego roli przedrostkowej w konstrukcjach morfologicznych wybranych jednostek leksykalnych obecnych w tekstach Nowego Testamentu. Autorka rozpoczyna od przeglądu możliwości tworzenia jednostek leksykalnych z użyciem wybranego przedrostka, wyliczając leksemy o najwyższym stopniu produktywności pojawiające się w wybranym do analizy korpusie. Wyselekcjonowane w ten sposób jednostki poddane zostają następnie analizie pod kątem ich funkcjonowania w tekstach neotestamentalnych zarówno z przedrostkiem εὖ, jak i bez niego. Przeprowadzona w ten sposób analiza pozwala na wskazanie wkładu semantycznego, który badany przedrostek wnosi w nowo powstałe formacje językowe. Niniejsza praca koncentruje się również na analizie porównawczej przekładów przyjętych we francuskich opracowaniach biblijnych i sugeruje głębsze ich rozumienie na podstawie rezultatów przeprowadzonego badania.
    The article focuses on an analysis of the semantic character of the Greek adverb εὖ and its prefix role in the morphological formations of selected lexical units present in the texts of the New Testament. The author begins by addressing the possibility of creating lexical units using the selected prefix, listing the lexemes with the highest degree of productivity appearing in the chosen corpus. The units selected in this way are then analysed in terms of their functioning in Greek New Testament texts, with or without the prefix εὖ. The analysis makes it possible to indicate the semantic contribution that the studied prefix makes to the newly created linguistic formations. The work also focuses on a comparative analysis of the translations adopted in French biblical studies and suggests a deeper understanding of them based on the results of the proposed description.

    La communication porte sur le figement linguistique du verbe espagnol dejar avec l’infinitif caer dans la construction dejar caer (que) ayant un caractère polysémique. Une multitude d’emplois se fait observer surtout dans des tentatives de sa traduction en français et en polonais entreprises par l’auteur. L’analyse vise à démontrer que non seulement le sens d’un lexème peut dépendre de la syntaxe mais que la combinatoire des mots influe aussi sur le sens global d’une expression figée. Les emplois de cette locution verbale composée de deux verbes peuvent mettre en jeu, à la place du compément, un nom abstrait, concret, une subordonnée précédée d’une conjonction. Tout emploi a un impact sur les restrictions sélectives quant à la délimitation plus détaillée du type du complément et du sujet, la compréhension et la traduction de cette unité lexicale. La description proposée se base sur la notion de classe d’objets largement étudiée en linguistique par plusieurs chercheurs renommés, à en énumérer surtout G. Gross, X. Blanco Escoda ou W. Banyś. Les résultats de l’analyse sauraient être adaptés également à des fins de la traduction automatique en français et en polonais.
    The paper focuses on the analysis of the Spanish verb dejar with the infinitive caer in the phraseological unit dejar caer (que) which has a polysemic character. A multitude of its uses is observed especially in attempts to translate it into French and Polish undertaken by the Author. The aim of this paper is also to show that not only the meaning of one lexeme may depend on the semantic-syntactic environment, but it also influences a compound construction. The verbal unit dejar caer can be followed by different types of nouns (abstract, concrete) functioning as a complement, as well as by a subordinate clause introduced by the conjunction que. Each of the uses is associated with selective restrictions which influence a more detailed type of complement and subject, in this way causing a different understanding and translation of this lexical unit. The proposed description is based on the notion of a class of objects widely studied and applied in linguistics by, for instance, G. Gross, X. Blanco Escoda or W. Banyś. The results of the analysis would also be suitable for the purposes of machine translation into French and Polish.

    The author analyzes the two most common synonymous Greek prepositions ἐν and εἰς in the texts of the New Testament. She begins with a description of the basic syntactic functions of Greek prepositions, then goes on to analyze the status of two selected prepositions, pointing to the differences in their meaning and their dependence on the connectivity with specific noun cases. The last part of the text is devoted to the pre-verbal value of the prepositions under the study and the compound verbs based on them, which are combined with the verbs without prefixes, which are their basis. This starting point allows conclusions of a syntactic-semantic nature based on the use of the studied forms in the Greek New Testament texts.

    Le sens du mot se laisse découvrir dans le contexte qui l’accompagne. Ceci est aujourd’hui une vérité communément connue. Dans la communication que nous proposons, nous présenterons à titre d’appui quelques approches linguistiques et philosophiques choisies soulignant le rôle de l’entourage dans la formation du sens d’une unité lexicale (F. de Saussure, N. A. Chomsky, G. Frege, Z. Harris, M. Gross, G. Gross). Nous essayerons ensuite de répondre à la question comment le contexte d’emploi permet de faire ressortir un sens concret qui influe par conséquent sur la traduction, comment l’invariant du sens s’active dans le contexte et comment les dictionnaires actuels permettent de traiter les données qui en décident. Nous nous concentrerons également sur une analyse effectuée à travers le prisme de la méthodologie à objets qui permet de prendre en compte des informations d’ordre linguistique souvent négligées dans les dictionnaires de langue. Pour le faire nous nous baserons sur l’exemple du verbe quitter FR / quitar ES.
    The sense of the word can be explored in the context, which is now common knownledge. In this article we intend to make a brief review of some linguistic and philosophical approaches emphasizing the role of environment in the meaning of a lexical unit (F. de Saussure, N. A. Chomsky, G. Frege, Z . Harris, M. Gross, G. Gross). Then, we make an attempt to determine how the context of use brings out the exact meaning, which thus affects its translation, how the invariant meaning is activated in the context and how current dictionaries propose to describe this type of data. We also focus on the analysis based on the object oriented approaches which can take into account the linguistic information often overlooked in language dictionaries. The analysis is based on the example of the verb quitter FR/quitar ES.

    The main topic of this paper deals with a general description of the notion of the class of objects, its historical draft and development in linguistic studies (generative grammar of N. Chomsky, semantic markers in the theory of J.J. Katz, J.A. Fodor, the predicate-argument structure of S. Karolak and the electronic dictionary of G.Gross). The author takes advantage of this concept in her analysis basing on object-oriented approach and the disambiguation by W. Banyś. This article demonstrates also that the disambiguation of the meaning of polysemic word pass by a correct choise of a class of objects which is the only solution to provide adequate equivalents in the target language and the condition of the effective and satisfying translation supported by computer.

    The purpose of the present article is a contrastive analysis of the verbs and verbal forms expressing the spatial situation in the Pericope Adulterae from the point of view of their translations into Polish and French starting from the original Greek biblical text. The author presents the general context of the pericope, its controversial place in the Gospel of John as well as its construction and its linguistic specificities. Starting from the original text of this biblical passage, then are listed the Greek verbs which express a spatial situation and are subjected to the analysis from the point of view of their forms and their meaning. According to the Polish and French translations chosen from this evangelical episode, the author proceeds to the comparison of the proposed equivalents and presents the comments which ensue. The analysis of translations demonstrates that some of the equivalents are analogous for two or all of the three languages, and some are typical only to one of the three languages.
