Opis:
Beta parameter is one of the commonly used measurements of individual stockor portfolio investment risk and plays a crucial role in modern portfolio theoryparticularly in management of financial investment portfolios. Many studieshave been done in this field, particularly on its properties such as stability in thecontext of the stock market cycle phases, measuring frequency of rate of return, length of sample period. However, the number of studies concerning beta parameterin the counties of Central and Eastern Europe that have undergone systemictransformation at the end of the previous century is much lower. Therefore wedecided to study the changes of behavior of the beta parameter in those countries. The main aim of this article is to examine the beta parameter stability over bulland bear market conditions on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The paper presentsan analysis of betas stability for 134 stocks of the largest companies listed at theWSE during years 2005–2013.

Opis:
The paper presents special forms of an ensemble of classifiers for analysis of medical images based on application of deep learning. The study analyzes different structures of convolutional neural networks applied in the recognition of two types of medical images: dermoscopic images for melanoma and mammograms for breast cancer. Two approaches to ensemble creation are proposed. In the first approach, the images are processed by a convolutional neural network and the flattened vector of image descriptors is subjected to feature selection by applying different selection methods. As a result, different sets of a limited number of diagnostic features are generated. In the next stage, these sets of features represent input attributes for the classical classifiers: support vector machine, a random forest of decision trees, and softmax. By combining different selection methods with these classifiers an ensemble classification system is created and integrated by majority voting. In the second approach, different structures of convolutional neural networks are directly applied as the members of the ensemble. The efficiency of the proposed classification systems is investigated and compared to medical data representing dermoscopic images of melanoma and breast cancer mammogram images. Thanks to fusion of the results of many classifiers forming an ensemble, accuracy and all other quality measures have been significantly increased for both types of medical images.

Opis:
In recent years, the number of patients with a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) has been steadily increasing. Implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) are currently one of the primary methods of preventing sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients at risk. A post-mortem CIED examination, which these days is performed very rarely, as well as the analysis of the recordings may provide key information regarding the circumstances of the patient’s death. This applies to both the potential impact of a defect or damage to the device in an event of the owner’s death and the forensic analysis of the circumstances of death, especially when traditional post-mortem diagnostics do not provide a clear diagnosis. In addition, using the data stored on the device, it is possible to identify the corpse and precisely determine the time of death, which is crucial for the conducted expertise. Since it is a quick, cheap and widely available procedure, CIED analysis should be incorporated as a routine element of post-mortem diagnostics.
