W artykule przedstawiono działania administracji Trumpa wobec Unii Europejskiej. Analizując problem, starano się dociec przyczyn napięć na linii Waszyngton–Bruksela oraz zarysować główną oś sporu. Były nią napięte relacje handlowe, które weszły nawet w fazę niewypowiedzianej wojny handlowej między USA a UE. Wykazano, że istotą problemu było to, że Trump używał wyższych ceł na towary sprowadzane z Europy jako instrumentu wywierania nacisku oraz realizowania polityki wymierzonej w UE. Wspólnota zaś reagowała cłami odwetowymi. W efekcie osłabiano spoistość sojuszu transatlantyckiego.
The article presents the actions of the Trump administration towards the European Union. By analyzing the problem, they tried to find out the causes of tensions between Washington and Brussels and to outline the main axis of the dispute. It was the strained trade relations, which even entered the phase of an undeclared trade war between the US and the EU. It has been shown that the essence of the problem was that Trump used higher tariffs on goods imported from Europe as an instrument of exerting pressure and implementing policies aimed at the EU. As a result, the cohesion of the transatlantic alliance was weakened.

Współczesne zagrożenia hybrydowe są wyzwaniem dla kreatorów bezpieczeństwa i wymagają nowych rozwiązań w celu ich zapobiegania. Jednym z takich rozwiązań jest tworzenie programów profilaktycznych zapobiegających radykalizacji i mowie nienawiści. Programy te powinny być oparte na naukowych podstawach, dobrze zaprojektowane i uwzględniające wiedzę z psychologii, socjologii, prawa i bezpieczeństwa. Programy kierowane do młodzieży powinny uwzględniać też wyzwania związane z adolescencją i być prowadzone przez specjalistów z najnowszą wiedzą, umiejętnościami i kompetencjami. Celem prezentowanego badania ewaluacyjnego programu profilaktycznego było sprawdzenie skuteczności programu edukacyjnego „Rozumiem=Szanuję”, zapobiegającego radykalizacji wiodącej do dyskryminacji i mowy nienawiści. Badanie pozwoliło stwierdzić, że założone cele programu zostały zrealizowane. W celu wszechstronnego ujęcia oceny skuteczności programu zostały przeprowadzone analizy źródeł zastanych i wywołanych oraz badania jakościowe (wywiady) i ilościowe (technika ankiety), dokonywane po realizacji poszczególnych modułów programu.
Contemporary hybrid threats are a challenge for security creators and require new solutions in their prevention. One of such solution is the construction of prevention programs to prevent radicalization and hate speech. These programs should be science-based, well-designed, and include knowledge of psychology, sociology, law, and security. Programs addressed to young people should also take into account the challenges of adolescence and should be run by specialists with up-to-date knowledge, skills and competences. The aim of the presented evaluation study of the preventive program was to check the effectiveness of the educational program preventing radicalization leading to discrimination and hate speech „Rozumiem=Szanuję” (Polish for “I Understand = I Respect”). The study shows that the assumed goals of the program were achieved. In order to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of the program, analyzes of existing and induced sources were carried out as well as qualitative research (interviews) and quantitative research (survey technique), conducted after the implementation of individual program modules.

Opis:
W tradycji retorycznej i badawczej wyliczenie zyskało opinię figury możliwie neutralnej, oddającej chaotyczność świata, skupionej na szczególe. Z tego prawdopodobnie powodu wykorzystuje się je w tych utworach (zarówno fikcjonalnych, jak i niefikcjonalnych), których celem jest wywołanie wrażenia, że historia została ujęta obiektywnie, oraz wyrobienie w czytelniku zaufania do bezstronności narratora i wnikliwości opisu. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest weryfikacja tych założeń na przykładzie jednej odmiany enumeracji – zbiorów rzeczownikowych – na materiale polskiego reportażu XX i XXI w., a więc zbadanie, w jaki sposób forma wyliczenia (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zbiorów zbudowanych z nazw własnych, synonimów oraz pojęć abstrakcyjnych) jest związana z żywiołami porządku i chaosu, szczegółu czy ogółu, subiektywizmu czy obiektywizmu, a także które z nich stanowią w tych utworach (lub ich fragmentach) zasadę organizacyjną.
In the rhetorical tradition, enumeration has gained an opinion of a neutral figure which is focused on details and reflects the chaos of the world. For this reason, it is probably used in those works (both fictional and non-fictional) whose purpose is to create an impression that the story has been presented objectively and to build reader’s confidence in the narrator’s impartiality and insightful description. The aim of this study is to verify these assumptions following the example of one type of enumeration, i.e. noun sets, on the basis of the material of Polish literary journalism of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and thus to examine how the forms of these enumerations (with particular emphasis on the sets composed of proper names, synonyms and abstract concepts) are related to the elements of order and chaos, specific and general, subjectivity and objectivity, and which of them actually constitute the organizational principle in these works (or their fragments).

The aim of the article is to investigate the origin of the Polish dialectal name odolan, which refers to valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.). On the basis of historical‑comparative analysis of the Slavic language material, it can be concluded that the name odolan is probably a late borrowing from Ukrainian dialects. It is related to the Proto‑Slavic form *odolěn, which is a derivative of the verb *odolěti ‘to defeat, to win’, derived from the Proto‑Slavic *dolja ‘success or failure, good or bad fate, destiny’. The Proto‑Slavic form *odolěn is motivated by the widely known healing and magical properties of valerian, but it is not a calque of Med. Lat. valeriana, because this Latin name is unlikely to be related to the verb valēre ‘to be strong, powerful; have an advantage, dominate’, and is most likely an adjectival derivative from the name of the Roman province of Valeria.

The aim of this dissertation was to present the trends and forms of development of information about books and literature for children in 19th and the beginning of 20th century on Polish territory. The author took into consideration different conditions: pedagogical, cultural and socio-political. Throughout the whole period magazines publishing book reviews and bibliographic specifications and also publishing houses and booksellers with their announcements and advertisements played a significant role in creation of the information about books for children. As the years went on and with the development of publishing market the system of information was extended by different sorts of folders, publishers’ and bookshops’ catalogues and printed librarian catalogues. On the turn of the centuries reference catalogues (of a hand-book character) became popular. Their aim was to shape the reading habit among children and youth.

In this article the author presented the activities of the founded in 1908 Society of Polish Culture’s Łódź Department for organizing public scientific library in Łódź. Reading room opened in 1909 and library opened in 1910 functioned only for four years, as in 1913 Russian authorities closed down the Society of Polish Culture. Despite the short period of functioning, the library of the Society of Polish Culture played an important role in shaping the book culture in Łódź.

Opis:
The jurisdiction provided for in Article 13 of Regulation 650/2012 is ancillary to the jurisdiction regulated in Articles 4—11 of the Regulation. It covers only the declarations described in this provision. Their content is determined by the law applicable to succession. Jurisdiction under Article 13, on the other hand, does not cover the consequences of the silence of a candidate for an heir. The effects of the waiver of the succession are assessed according to the provisions of the law applicable to succession even if the waiver occurred within the jurisdiction of Article 13 of the Regulation. In the case before the CJEU, the Bremen court of succession held that since it had not been served with the original document containing the waiver of the succession with an official translation into German within the deadline set by the law application to succession (Section 1944(3) BGB), there had been no effective waiver of the succession. Responding to the preliminary questions of the German court of second instance, the CJEU correctly stated that in the case of waiver of the succession in the state, in which the waiving heir has his or her habitual residence, it is sufficient to comply with the form requirements provided for by the law of the state in which that declaration is made, without a necessity to comply with the requirements of the lex successionis. On the basis of legis processualis, the German court of succession could have requested that translation into German of the documents drawn up in Dutch is submitted. On the same basis, it could also have demanded the submission of the originals of the above documents. However, it incorrectly held that these acts must be completed within the time limit for waiver of succession provided for in the legis successionis. It is also clear that the failure of the heir waiving the succession to comply with the instruction contained in the last sentence of recital 32 of the Regulation (paragraph 74) regarding the obligation to give notice of waiver, does not render the waiver invalid. It seems desirable in future, however, to explicitly include in the Regulation the obligation to notify the court of succession of the waiver, in the country of habitual residence of the waiving heir.

Research Background: The development of fledgling enterprises, especially those associated with medium-high and high technology is not easy. They often need to develop from inception a born global strategy, which is a great challenge at the beginning of a new business. Therefore, there is a global phenomenon of incubation, which supports young enterprises in the early stages of development. In Poland, the institutional dimension of incubation (especially for enterprises associated with modern technologies) consists of technology incubators and university business incubators. Yet, scientific research con-ducted in the area of entrepreneurship incubation gives contradictory results - some assess their activity positively, others negatively. Purpose of the article: Enterprises located in an incubator should allocate funds for R&D activities and create innovations to develop and gain market advantage. With this in mind, the purpose of the article is to check whether technology incubators and university business incubators contribute to an increase in the likelihood of conducting R&D activities and introducing product and process innovations. Methods: The study was conducted on a sample of 1058 industrial enterprises distributed across 2 Polish NUTS level 2 regions: Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodships. It concerned innovative activity that enterprises conducted in 2014-2016. Thanks to the use of probit modeling determination was made for the probability of introducing new products and conducting R&D works in entities that used the services of incubators in relation to those that did not belong to them. Findings & Value added: Econometric modeling revealed that in the studied regions incubators contribute to an increase in the introduction of product innovations by enterprises and in conducting R&D activities. Support for the process of implementing innovation occurred significantly more often only in the case where technology incubators were involved. At the same time, it was noticed that only academic incubators increased the chances of introducing product innovations on a global scale. This means that tenants of technology incubators are more innovative than entities outside them, but their innovations in terms of the level of novelty do not differ from innovations implemented in entities outside incubators. The conducted study indicated that the transfer of systemic solutions related to stimulating innovation from developed countries to catching-up countries may be successful. This is a guideline for local authorities to create incubators that allow for an increase in the level of innovation of the incubated enterprises.

The exhibition of the ancient Egyptian Art from the 15. century B.C., National Museum in Warsaw, 20th November 1997-20th February 1998. Objects from the German collections and from the National Museum in Warsaw. The exhibition was conceived by the Professor Dietrich Wildung, director of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. Asked for a loan of the Egyptian monuments, he suggested that particular period because of the long time of the Polish activity at Deir ei-Bahari, Egypt, where already in 1961 the team of experts from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology in Cairo, headed by the famous Kazimierz Michałowski, commenced the study, restoration and excavations in the terraced tempie of an Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut. At the same time an unexpected discovery of the hitherto unknown tempie of Tuthmosis III was made in the close proximity of that of Hatshepsut. The exhibition was concerned with these two main figures of the period and contemporary works of art. The royal portraits, reliefs from the temples and tombs were displayed, as well as the statues of the dignitaries of both rulers. A maquette of Deir el-Bahari with its temples was included, and rich photographic material illustrating the restoration works in the temple of Hatshepsut and the excavations and finds from the newly uncovered temple of Tuthmosis III.

The article presents and evaluates the relations between interpretation and translation in the case of Rolf Fieguth’s translation of Norwid’s Vade-mecum into German. Fieguth ’s translation is purposely „report-like” ; it aims at „the closest approximation possible to the original [...] in the sound pattern of words, sentence construction, semantic ambiguity [...] and mixture of styles” . Yet this „report-like” translation does not render Norwid’s poems any simpler or more modern in form. Nor will it make it any easier for the contemporary reader to penetrate the complex poetry of the author of the Vade-mecum. The interpretation of Norwid’s translated work as a whole is not free from weaknesses, either; for example, there is in sufficient stress on the opposition between the sacred and absence of the sacred. This interpretational shortcoming reflects on the quality of the translation itself. Another cause of translational imperfections is the „flattening” or even total elimination of the opposition between the dynamic and the static in the form of the Vade-mecum; this may to some extent be due to the properties of the German language system. Norwid’s texts as translated by Fieguth are much more static than the original. The thesis that dynamism plays an important part in the language of the Vade-mecum has not been generally known; it is the present w riter’s own idea, which emerged as she was comparing Norwid’s original with the German translation.

The author presents the biography of Antoni Kość beginning with the schooldays. In the article have been descibed the following stages: the seminary and theology studies in the Catholic University of Lublin; missionary work and law studies in Japan; law studies in Germany and the United States; studies and work at the universities in Japan and Korea; work at the Catholic University of Lublin. The author presents also the academic achievements of Prof. Antoni Kość.

Digital transformation through innovative and technological development is important for economic growth and competitiveness. Digitization also influences the development of the information society. As research shows, the subject of interest in modern society is sustainable development. The aim of the article is to identify the role of digitalization in the implementation of sustainable development in the context of stakeholders. The analysis showed that the implementation of sustainable development goals is particularly important for stakeholders who, in the era of digitalization, have much greater access to information. In turn, by disclosing the results of implementing sustainable development goals, companies can build long-term relationships with customers, local communities and other stakeholder groups, creating the basis for the future of business development.

The motif of death and the maiden, so popular in literature and painting, is referred to directly in Samuel Beckett’s All that Fall, when Franz Schubert’s piece of music, under such a title, is heard at the end of this radio drama. When discussing the vision of human existence, as consistently presented in this great Irishman’s oeuvre, it is advisable to become acquainted with the basic concepts of Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, and also with Beckett’s essay Proust in which he discusses human life, characterised by suffering as “the expiation for the eternal sin of having been born.” This article discusses death in the Beckettland of suffering. Death hardly ever comes to young characters, the majority of Beckett’s characters being either old or, at least, middle-aged, are all still longing for their end to come. Despite finding different kinds of pastimes to make their waiting less oppressive, time seems to be, as it were, at a standstill, and, to use Vladimir’s words from Waiting for Godot, they “have time to grow old.”
Motyw śmierci i dziewczyny, popularny w literaturze i malarstwie, pojawia się w sztuce radiowej Samuela Becketta Którzy upadają, na końcu której słychać utwór Franza Szuberta pod takim tytułem. Kiedy przystępuje się do analizy krytycznej dotyczącej twórczości wielkiego Noblisty, warto jest zapoznać się z filozofią Heideggera oraz esejem Becketta analizującym powieść Prousta W poszukiwaniu utraconego czasu. W rozprawie o Proustcie dramaturg przedstawia swoją koncepcję ludzkiej egzystencji, która jest cierpieniem jako odkupieniem „za wieczny grzech narodzin.” Artykuł zajmuje się przedstawieniem śmierci w twórczości Irlandczyka. W jego utworach śmierć rzadko przychodzi do postaci młodych, ale również jest długo oczekiwana przez bohaterów w wieku średnim albo nawet starszych, którzy nie mogą się jej doczekać. Mimo że stosują oni różne sposoby na skrócenie oczekiwania na kres swego życia, co wydaje się zmniejszać ich cierpienie, odnoszą wrażenie, że czas zatrzymał się, co stwierdza swoją wypowiedzią Vladimir w Czekając na Godota: „Mamy czas, aby się zestarzeć.”

В статье рассматривается проблема сценического текста Ревизора И. Гоголя, который поставил Ян Клята в театре в Валбжихе в 2009 году. Автор статьи выдвигает тезис, касающийся характера сценического перевода, и утверждает, что верность словесному тексту существует тогда, когда сохраняется «дух» текста образца, а затем его идейное содержание. Так дело обстоит именно с описываемым спектаклем Я. Кляты, где несмотря на осовременивание театрального повествования и внесловные приемы, которые использовал режиссер в постановке пьесы, царствует дух Гоголевского произведения, т.е. убеждение, что всякие изменения, например, власти, не меняют однако человеческой натуры и ее стереотипного поведения.

The paper analyzes the data collected during interviews recorded with Polish-French and Polish-English-speaking bilingual children living in Poland, aged from 4 to 8. The task given to the participants was to describe spatial situations in a series of images by answering the researcher’s question where is X? The answers were supposed to follow the BLC (Basic Locative Construction) pattern. The given locative constructions were then transcribed in CHAT format and analyzed in order to find out what the children’s repertoire of locative prepositions in both language groups is, if the prepositions follow the order of acquisition for both French and English and if any discrepancies in the use of prepositions might result from interlingual transfer.

"W pracy została przedstawiona prognoza struktury agrarnej województw do roku 2020 wg grup typologicznych. Prognozę wyznaczono metodą prognozowania struktur E. Nowaka na podstawie danych GUS. Następnie metodą klasyfikacji rozmytej dokonano grupowania województw, uzyskując w ten sposób przewidywany obraz zróżnicowania przestrzennego badanej struktury w roku 2020. Sporządzona prognoza przedstawia, jakie przeobrażenia w strukturze agrarnej województw nastąpią, jeżeli kierunek i tempo zmian, jakie występowały w latach 2002-2009 nie ulegną zmianie."
The paper presents the forecast of agrarian structure of voivodships up to 2020 according to typological groups. The data were taken from Statistical Yearbook of Agriculture edited by Central Statistical Office. The forecast was based on the method of structures’ forecasting proposed by Nowak. Then, on the basis of fuzzy classification method, the prediction of spatial differentiation of the structure under investigation up to 2020 was evaluated. The forecast presents what kind of changes in agrarian structure of voivodships will take place if the direction and rate of changes within the period of 2002 – 2009 remain stable.

Properties of polymer gears were tested using coordinate measurement methods. This study is a follow-up to research on geometric accuracy of gears manufactured by injection molding. Spur gears were measured on a coordinate measuring machine running the GINA software by Klingelnberg. Measurement results were output in the form of measurement sheets which included values required in the DIN 3962 standard. The article also analyses the topography of test gear teeth. The topography was presented for a single tooth of the gear and determined on the basis of the measurements of 9 profiles distributed evenly over a specific profile assessment interval (interval Lα defined in the standard) and 7 tooth traces located within a relevant tooth trace assessment interval (interval Lβ defined in the standard). All gears tested in this study were placed outside accuracy class 12.
Właściwości użytkowe polimerowych kół zębatych badano zzastosowaniem współrzędnościowych metod pomiarowych. Opracowanie stanowi kontynuację prac nad dokładnością geometrii kół wytwarzanych metodą wtryskiwania. Do pomiaru kół zębatych walcowych użyto współrzędnościowej maszyny pomiarowej wyposażonej wspecjalistyczne oprogramowanie onazwie GINA firmy Klingelnberg. Wyniki pomiaru otrzymywano wpostaci arkuszy pomiarowych uwzględniających wartości znormy DIN 3962. Analizowano również topografię zębów kół badawczych. Przedstawiono topografię jednego zęba koła, określoną na podstawie pomiaru 9 zarysów równomiernie rozmieszczonych na odpowiednim odcinku oceny zarysu (odcinku Lα definiowanym wg normy) i7 liniach zęba umiejscowionych na odpowiednim odcinku oceny linii zęba (odcinku Lβ definiowanym wg normy). Wszystkie badane koła znalazły się poza 12 klasą dokładności.

The paper presents geometrical accuracy tests of polymer spiral bevel gears. The change in geometry was quantified with reference to research models produced by incremental methods: FDM (fused deposition modeling), SLS (selective laser sintering), DLP (digital light processing) and PolyJet. Model geometry verification was made basing on the INDUSTRY 4.0 philosophy using the Klingelnberg P40 coordinate measuring machine (CMM) operating in an integrated network system. The graphs show deviations of selected parameters defining the geometry of the teeth. Analysis of the obtained results was used to select the appropriate printing technology and to improve the quality of the polymer gears. The highest 11th accuracy class of the spiral bevel gear teeth, determined according to DIN 3965, was obtained for models manufactured in PolyJet additive technology.
Zbadano dokładność geometryczną polimerowych zębatych kół stożkowych o kołowej linii zęba. Oceniano ilościowo zmianę geometrii w odniesieniu do modeli badawczych wytwarzanych metodami przyrostowymi: osadzania topionego materiału FDM (ang. fused depositionmodeling), selektywnego spiekania laserowego SLS (ang. selective laser sintering), wykorzystania cyfrowej projekcji światła DLP (ang. digital light processing) oraz PolyJet. Weryfikację geometrii modeli wykonano, opierając się na filozofii Przemysł 4.0, z wykorzystaniem współrzędnościowej maszyny pomiarowej (CMM) P40 firmy Klingelnberg, pracującej w zintegrowanym układzie sieciowym. Na wykresach zilustrowano odchylenia wybranych parametrów definiujących geometrię uzębienia. Analiza otrzymanych wyników posłużyła do wyboru odpowiedniej technologii druku oraz poprawy jakości wykonania polimerowych kół. Najwyższą, 11 klasę dokładności uzębienia kół stożkowych o kołowej linii zęba, określoną wg normy DIN 3965, uzyskano w wypadku modeli wytworzonych w technologii przyrostowej PolyJet.

W kontekście istniejących współcześnie trudności z określeniem, czym jest sprawiedliwość społeczna, poglądy Antoniego Szymańskiego zdaniem autorki rzucają światło na istotę problemu i przynoszą jego rozwiązanie. Niesłusznie pozostają one obecnie w całkowitym zapomnieniu. Celem artykułu jest dokonanie krytycznej analizy dzieł Antoniego Szymańskiego oraz zrekonstruowanie jego poglądów na temat sprawiedliwości społecznej. Analiza dzieł Antoniego Szymańskiego została przeprowadzona w kontekście encykliki Quadragesimo anno.
Taking into account the contemporary difficulties in determining the concept of social justice the views of Antoni Szymański cast light on the essence of those issues and seem to provide solutions to those unanswered questions. Unfortunately, they remain completely forgotten nowadays. The purpose of this study is to provide a critical analysis of Antoni Szymański’s works and to reconstruct his views on social justice.

A new association of ore minerals has been found in the Lower and Middle Triassic rocks in the vicinity of the village of Woźniki in the NW part of the Upper Silesian district. In addition to the typical Zn-Pb-Fe association in dolomites, copper sulphides have been detected in the sandstones and conglomerates of the Lower Bunter. Copper mineralization occurs in the sandstone matrix and is represented by bornite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, tetrahedrite and covellite. High admixtures of zinc in Cu sulphides and admixtures of copper in Zn-Pb sulphides suggest a common source for the metal-transporting fluids and a single period of sulphide crystallization.

Ignacy Krasicki expressed his opinion about King Stanisław August Poniatowski in the coronation homily on 25 November 1764, and then in the satire entitled On the King written in 1779. In the homily he said that it was a man of `a splendid mind and righteous heart'; he also tried to convince the audience that the King should be respected. In the satire he defended the King against the charges of the opposition who said that he was not a king's son, that he was too young, too good and that he loved learned people. The charges resulted from envy, spite and foolishness, as during his reign Stanisław August effected far-reaching reforms in Poland. Among others, he established the Commission for National Education – the first ministry of education in the world, that played an important role after the political collapse of the state.

The book (Un)forgotten documentalists, edited by Katarzyna Mąka-Malatyńska and Jolanta Lemann-Zajiček (2020) is a significant achievement in research on Polish documentary film. The review of the collective work, consisting of ten texts preceded by an introduction, becomes the starting point for discussions with selected authors and reflection on the problem of the absence of significant documentary filmmakers in the history of the film. Entire currents are also forgotten, such as a film about art, represented by four out of nine documentary filmmakers discussed in the book. The meanders of life and creativity can be instructive for contemporary documentary filmmakers.

The aim of this essay is to try to apply the theory of researching the literary work created in the 20th century – geopoetics – to the text of the emigration drama by Nikolai Yevreinov. The author points to the difficulty she encounters when using this theory to study drama. She points out that the category of time and space is associated to a higher degree with performance. Nevertheless, the structure of the playwright’s two texts shows connotations in the theory: creating a foreign space and creating a remembered space meets the assumptions of the event-generating and world-giving attitude of the subject.

Italy, seen as the cradle of European culture and the destination of the wanderings of Polish intellectuals and artists, often appears in the Polish press of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Among the cities described, Padua is present, although it appears less frequently than Venice or Rome. Articles dedicated to this city, however, have a particular character, because not only is “Padova la dotta” famous for the cult of Saint Anthony, but it is most often presented in the contexts of centuriesold Italian-Polish relations linked mostly to the University and of the Paduan polonica. There are in fact two moments that find a particular resonance in the Polish press: the first, in 1922, for the seventh centenary of the University, and the second, in 1931, for the celebrations of the seventh centenary of Saint Anthony’s death. This article offers a review of the texts that have appeared in various periodicals and includes a brief presentation of the authors—scholars, artists, or journalists active in the promotion of Italian culture. From the texts published both in newspapers and in cultural magazines or even scientific periodicals, the image of the city emerges as strongly marked by the presence of Poles, who were students, university professors, or pilgrims.
L’Italia vista come culla della cultura europea e l’obiettivo delle peregrinazioni degli intellettuali e artisti polacchi appare spesso sulla stampa polacca degli ultimi decenni del XIX e dei primi del XX secolo. Tra le città descritte Padova non costituisce un tema così frequente come Venezia o Roma. Gli articoli dedicati a questa città hanno tuttavia un carattere particolare perché “Padova la dotta”, oltre ad essere famosa per il culto di sant’Antonio, è presentata il più spesso nel contesto di multisecolari relazioni italo-polacche legate per lo più all’Università e quello dei polonica padovani. Due momenti inoltre trovano una risonanza particolare: il 1922 per il settimo centenario dell’Università e il 1931 per le celebrazioni del settimo centenario della morte del Santo. L’intervento propone la rassegna degli articoli apparsi su diversi periodici con una breve presentazione degli autori: studiosi, artisti o giornalisti attivi nella promozione della cultura italiana. Dai testi pubblicati sia nei quotidiani che sulle riviste di cultura o addirittura periodici di tipo scientifico emerge l’immagine della città fortemente segnata dalla presenza dei polacchi: studenti, professori dell’Università o pellegrini.

The present text attempts to analyse the play of an obscure, early 20th century playwright, Wenzel. The play in focus is „The story of Mr Ivanov”. The author of the paper tries to show the links between Wenzel’s text and the plays of his conteporaries and to indicate where exactly the satire is aimed. For, in Wenzel’s text one can find the playwright’s debate with Blok, Andriejev, Sologub and Hofmansthal. Wenzel’s work also, in a certain way, takes up a debate with the morality play which was used by the early 20th century writers. All the above observations authorize us to conclude that Wenzel remains perfectly in tune with the principle which governed the old comedy, the crooked mirror of a tragedy parodying all literary devices of the tragedy.

Introduction/background: A special place in the development and improvement of the Lean concept is occupied by the automotive industry – the natural and primary environment of lean manufacturing. All manufacturers in the industry follow a pro-quality approach, regulated by the technical specification ISO/TS 16949, which points to Lean as the preferred form of production process management. Womack, Jones and Roos, in their book "The Machine That Changed the World", called the automotive industry an "industry of industries" pointing to the natural and primal environment for the creation, implementation and improvement of the Lean concept. Taking into account the operating conditions of modern production organizations, which force the design of production systems, and taking into account their flexibility, modularity and adaptation to specific customer needs, the application of the Lean Management concept should be stated, and especially Lean Manufacturing in relation to the current situation in the automotive industry. Lean Management is a management standard adopted in the automotive industry around the world. The essence of this concept boils down to increasing the quality of the product and raising the level of organizational culture, and individual tools are used to improve the production system. The result of the actions taken is the elimination of waste, which leads to lower production costs and improvement of the financial result. Aim of the paper: The author of this paper has analysed a selected production line functioning in the automotive sector located in the Silesian region. In order to improve the flow of materials and information, as well as to enhance the production process, selected methods of the Lean Management concept were applied. Materials and methods: The paper is an attempt to present the application of selected Lean tools (Kanban, Supermarket, Standard Operating Procedure) and it uses the observation and interview methods among company personnel. Results and conclusions: It is assumed that satisfactory results can be achieved using this method, which would certify the improvement of work organization and increase the efficiency of individual tasks.

Wychowywanie uczniów na świadomych i „praktykujących” miłośników języka ojczystego winno być jednym z głównych celów szkolnej edukacji językowej. Język jako taki jest wymagającą uszanowania wartością i dlatego nacechowania etycznego wymagają jego wszystkie użycia. Wspomniany proces należy rozpocząć już na etapie nauczania wczesnoszkolnego. Jest to konieczne, jeżeli szkoła chce się skutecznie przeciwstawić negatywnym zjawiskom w zakresie komunikacji językowej – takim, jak mowa nienawiści, agresja słowna, odstąpienie od stosowania etykiety grzecznościowej.
The education of students who would become conscious and “practicing” native language lovers should be one of the main purposes of school language training. Language constitutes a value and therefore its usage is marked by ethical features. The above-mentioned process should begin at the very early stage of education. It is a necessary condition if school wants to counteract against negative phenomena present in language communication, like hatred, lexical aggression, abandoning politeness etiquette.

Edward Gobiec, urodzony w Warszawie, od dziecka miał zamiłowanie do nauk przyrodniczych. Dlatego obrał sobie zawód aptekarza. Po studiach farmaceutycznych w Dorpacie/Jurewie/Tartu (1909–1911) wrócił do Warszawy. Przez pewien czas pracował w aptece. Potem założył hurtownię farmaceutyczną. Następnie sprzedał ją i zaczął produkować w laboratorium soki roślinne, syropy i różne specyfiki roślinne na podstawie receptury opracowanej przez prof. farmakognozji Jana Muszyńskiego. Swą produkcję oparł na własnej plantacji roślin lekarskich. Jego podręcznik „Vademecum lecznictwa roślinnego” znajdował się w każdej aptece w Polsce.
Edward Gobiec, born in Warsaw, from his early childhood was interested in natural sciences. That is why he became a pharmacist. After graduating from pharmacy studies at the University of Dorpat/Juriew/Tartu (1909– –1911) he came back to Warsaw. For some time he worked at a pharmacy and later set up a pharmaceutical warehouse. After selling it he started to produce plant juices, syrups, and various plant medicines using the prescription of a professor of pharmacognosy Jan Muszyński. The production was based on his own medical plants plantation. His book “Vademecum of plant medicine” could be found in every pharmacy in Poland.

Młodzi dorastają do demokracji. Nie sprzyja temu trend niedbalstwa i nieprawdy czasem także widoczny w szkole. Uczmy więc rozumnego przyjmowania poglądów, świadomego uczestnictwa i weryfikujmy przekłamania. Potrzebna jest aktywna polemika z manipulacją, co wymaga rzetelnej wiedzy od nauczycieli oraz tworzenia przestrzeni dla aktywności uczniów. Przydatne być mogą takie formy pracy, jak organizowanie spotkań ze świadkami historii, analiza prasy i jej systematyczne, krytyczne poznawanie, umożliwianie różnych form samokształcenia. „Konstytucja Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej”, „Ustawa o Radiofonii i Telewizji” oraz „Konwencja o Prawach Dziecka” nakładają obowiązek chronienia dorastających przed szkodliwymi treściami.
Young people are growing up to democracy. The trend of carelessness und untruth, sometimes also visible at school, is not conductive to this. That is why it is necessary to teach wise adoption, conscious participa-tion and verification of distortions. An active polemic with manipulation is needed, which requires reliable knowledge from teachers and creating space for student’s activity. Such forms of work as organizing meetings with witnesses of history, cooperation with the press and its systematic, critical learning, enabling various forms of self-education may be useful. The Polish constitution, the broadcasting act, as well as the convention on the rights of the child impose an obligation to protect adolescents against harmful content.

The aim of the paper is to compare four versions of the text of Waitingfor Godot: the French original, Beckett’s own translation into English and two Polish renderings done by Julian Rogoziński and Antoni Libera. The article starts with a short discussion concerning rules governing the translation process and then its evaluation. While working on the transposition of the French original into English, Beckett introduced numerous changes, this being due to his sensitivity to the very quality of each of the languages and specific references characteristic of the two cultures. Antoni Libera, an expert in Beckett’s oeuvre, argues that Beckett’s translations should be more adequately described as second language versions and that the artist recommended further translations based on his two language versions. Libera himself followed this recommendation while translating Beckett’s works into Polish. Upon publication, he provided illuminating notes, shedding light on the differences in Beckett’s versions and providing critical insight into the texts. Julian Rogoziński, on the other hand, based his translation of Waiting for Godot only on the French original. This accounts for the fact that, at times, his rendering of the text lacks precision and may not even be quite understandable. Rogoziński’s version is less satisfactory than that of Libera due to the fact that it was written earlier and by an older man, which at times results in the use of old-fashioned, outdated Polish diction and structures.

In American ethnic literature of the last three decades of the 20th century, recurrent themes of mobility, travel, and “homing in” are emblematic of the search for identity. In this essay, which discusses three short stories, Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use,” Louise Erdrich’s “The World’s Greatest Fishermen,” and Daniel Chacon’s “The Biggest City in the World,” I attempt to demonstrate that as a consequence of technological development, with travel becoming increasingly accessible to ethnic Americans, their search for identity assumes wider range, transcending national and cultural boundaries.

W artykule zostaje podjęty problemem typu bohatera i antybohatera wykreowanego w literaturze przez antyczną kulturę grecką. Z uwagi na to, że problem ten w aspekcie diachronicznym jest bardzo szeroki, dlatego, chcąc dokonać jego pogłębionej analizy, konieczne jest zawężenie pola badawczego. Artykuł podejmuje zatem omawianą kwestię w eposie Homera, przy czym zostają w nim zestawione stworzone przez epika paradygmaty postaw bohaterów mitologicznych z postaciami wykreowanymi przez Eurypidesa. O wyborze tym zadecydował fakt, że utwory obu poetów możemy uznać za reprezentatywne dla ukazania świata wartości epok, w których tworzyli, oraz to, że u wymienionych poetów te same postacie mitologiczne podlegają niekiedy zupełnie odmiennej waloryzacji.
The paper discusses the types of heroes and anti-heroes established in literature by ancient Greek culture. In order to provide a full treatment of the subject, which in its diachronic aspect is very broad, the field of research has been limited. As a result, the present paper analyzes examples of mythological figures in the epic poems of Homer in juxtaposition with those found in Euripidean drama. The two authors have been chosen in view of the fact that their works are model representations of the values of their times as well as of the noticeable differences between them in evaluating the same mythological figures.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the origin of the Polish word farmacja and establish its deep‑rooted etymology. The author provides an outline of the history of the word in Polish and presents its direct source, i.e. the Latin word pharmacia, describes the word family in Latin and indicates that the Greek etymon φαρμακεία provided the basis of the Latin form. The analysis of the word family, to which the Greek word belongs, showed a close relationship with semantic fields such as making poison and practising magic. The key expression turned out to be the Greek form φάρμακον, the origin of which remains unclear. Many hypotheses have been proposed, none of which, unfortunately, is satisfactory.

W ramach rozważań zaprezentowana zostanie nowa instytucja – „ponaglenie”, która została wprowadzona do k.p.a. nowelizacją z dnia 7 kwietnia 2017 r. Nowy instrument ma na celu ulepszenie procedury administracyjnej oraz skrócenie czasu jej trwania.
The purpose of the article is the assessment of actual regulations of the Code of Administrative Procedure that are to serve the elimination of inaction of public administration authorities and the excessive length of the administrative proceedings. The author presents a new legal instrument – ,,Reminder”, introduced by an amendment of 7th April 2017 to the Polish Code of Administrative Procedure. The new legal instrument should improve the administrative proceedings and shorten their duration.

This article presents accessibility challenges faced by cultural institutions in the case of visually impaired visitors. The paper starts by highlighting the perception differences in people who are blind from birth, people who lost their eyesight but were once sensitive to visual stimuli, and people with partial vision loss, and consequently, the differences in the preparation of audio description narratives. Outlining the latter in terms of challenges related to the exhibition content (audio descriptions at exhibitions with and without facilities for the visually impaired) and navigation (extremely diversified needs in various groups of visually impaired visitors), the author argues that audio description cannot be the only solution implemented by cultural institutions, although this is often the case. Without undermining the necessity, relevance, and the educational and informational value of the verbal description of visual content, she emphasises the need for other solutions and a greater open-mindedness to the diversity of this extremely heterogeneous group of visitors. Such an approach is crucial while the solutions dedicated to the visually impaired can prove beneficial for all visitors.

The article discusses the causes, course and significance of the celebrations of “The Polish Emigrant's Week” that was organised on the whole territory of Poland in June 1930. The aim of this event, which had been prepared as a large scale one by committee in Warsaw that had numerous branches in the provinces, was: 1) raising the consciousness of the Polish society with respect to the proportions and significance of emigration from Polish lands to different countries. It also stressed the need of and profits from maintaining contacts and bonds between the several million mass of Poles living abroad and their homeland for both Poland and the emigrants; 2) raising funds for the construction of the Polish Emigrants’ Home in Warsaw that would concentrate state and community institutions working for the welfare of emigrants leaving Poland. The course of the “Emigrant's Week” is shown on the basis of archival records and press articles, and it presents the activity of State, community and Church officials in propaganda, cultural-educational and financial fields. Special attention is focused on the course of the “Emigrant's Week” in the area of East Małopolska (Little Poland), i. e. in the Lvov, Stanisławów and Tarnopol provinces where the phenomenon of emigration was especially intensive and complicated because of the ethnic composition of the population inhabiting that area. Poles, Ukrainians and Jews joined the work on the “Emigrant's Week”. The basic task here was to raise funds necessary to complete the construction of the Emigration Home in Lvov for emigrants belonging to all the three nations. The idea of building the Emigration Home had its roots in the necessity to secure protection against exploitation by illegal emigration agents to the masses of emigrating people. It was also supposed to provide help in gaining information about the immigration opportunities in different countries, about the social, economic and legal conditions prevailing in them, job markets for emigrants, formal requirements connected with obtaining passports, booking ship or railway tickets as well as securing decent conditions of transport to the border (night’s lodging, food) and during the travel to one’s destination. The Home was opened and blessed in 16 June 1930. On the territory of East Małopolska the action was repeated, albeit on a smaller scale, as “Emigrant's Day”, in the autumn of 1931.

The paper discusses the first period of mass emigration from the Polish soils to Western Canada, which period began in 1896 in connection with the plans of industralization of the prairie provinces, ie Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The process had been completed at the outbreak of World War I. The paper presents various conditions, eg personal, cultural, economic, demographic, and geographic which conditions gave shape to the process of birth and development of the Polish pastoral care posts in Western Canada. Three factors conducive to or hampering this process have been distinguished here. The first group includes the proethnic attitude of the French Catholic hierarchy which hierarchy encouraged the development of the pastoral care of ethnic groups in their mother tongues. That development was based on the emigrants' cultural values and traditions. Due to that fact, from 1898 on there were Polish priests coming to the western dioceses of Canada. They were mainly recruited from among Oblate Fathers of Immaculate Mary from Western Europe and from among the diocesan as well as monastic clergy from the U.S.A. The agricultural character of settlement and distribution of settlements over the vast territories as well as increasing emigration in the pioneer period caused a permanent shortage of priests to work among the Poles. An itinerant pastoral care travelling around Polish settlements was formed. It was exclusively typical of prairie provinces and did not occur on such a scale either in other regions of Canada or in the States. The preservation and development of the Polish pastoral care in those geographically and economically difficult conditions was possible only due to a great attachement of the Polish emigrants to faith and the Church, and due to their active part in creating pastoral care posts. Such an attitude found its expression in undertaking initiatives for the benefit of bringing Polish priests to Polish settlements, building chapels, churches and parish houses. Such initiatives demanded a lot of financial support and enormous work of the settlers. The achievements of the Polish pastoral care of the pioneer period in Western Canada have made a valuable spiritual and material contribution on the part of the Polish ethnic group to the building of the Catholic Church on these territories of Canada.

Opis:
Problems associated with environmental pollution concern most large Polish cities. They are mainly caused by transport, municipal waste, emissions from the housing sector and from factories, particularly burdensome for the environment. Based on data related to the state and the protection of the natural environment and road transport, the author attempted to divide Polish cities with county (‘powiat’) rights into groups with different environmental features. Discriminatory analysis was used for the division. The highest average value of the discriminatory function was shown by the group with the most favourable environmental and social conditions. In subsequent groups, the environmental pollution grew more and more. In turn, classification functions of discriminatory analysis allowed for the assignment of individual cities to selected groups. Discriminatory analysis could therefore be used as a support tool for examining the state of the environment and environmental protection in cities with county rights. The goal of the work is to identify the diversity of environmental and communication conditions in Polish cities with county (‘powiat’) rights.
Problemy związane z zanieczyszczeniem środowiska przyrodniczego dotyczą większości dużych miast w Polsce. Są one spowodowane głównie przez: transport, odpady komunalne, emisje z sektora komunalno-bytowego i z zakładów szczególnie uciążliwych dla otoczenia. Na podstawie danych dotyczących stanu i ochrony przyrody oraz transportu drogowego podjęto próbę podziału na grupy – różniące się cechami środowiskowymi – polskich miast na prawach powiatu. Do podziału wykorzystano analizę dyskryminacyjną. Najwyższa przeciętna wartość funkcji dyskryminacyjnej wskazała grupę o najkorzystniejszych warunkach przyrodniczych i społecznych. W kolejnych grupach zanieczyszczenie środowiska było coraz większe. Funkcje klasyfikacyjne analizy dyskryminacyjnej umożliwiły przydział poszczególnych miast do wyznaczonych grup. Analizę dyskryminacyjną można więc wykorzystać jako narzędzie wspomagające badanie stanu i ochrony środowiska w miastach. Celem tego opracowania jest identyfikacja zróżnicowania warunków przyrodniczo-środowiskowych i komunikacyjnych w miastach na prawach powiatu w Polsce.

The paper presents the impact of advertising on consumers' behaviour on the market. It stresses that in the time of constantly appearing new products and their on-going improvements and modifications, both producers and sellers are forced to use various methods of persuading the consumers that only their products are able to fully satisfy all consumers' needs. One of the most commonly used means of influencing the buyers is advertising. Big expansion of the advertising activities on the Polish market does impact consumers' behaviour. They perceive advertising not only as the source of information about the market offer but also as the new integral element of the market. The observations and analyses of the reactions of Polish customers to the advertising will facilitate the evaluation of the processes of adaptation to the conditions of the market economy.

The spirituality of the pedagogue–senior. Various philosophers and educators, with contribution to the progress of education, commented the aspect of spirituality of the pedagogue–senior. We can mention Ignatius of Loyola (Saint of Catholic Churh), Otto Friedrich Bollnow (philosopher and pedagogue), Die-trich von Hildebrand (ethical philosopher) or Janusz Korczak(medical doctor and educator). What groups their ideas is the deep respect for knowledge and intellectual skills, supported by underlined importance of the optimism of the Spirit, achieved through the humor and kindness during life’s difficulties. In our days the spiritual reflection also requires a sensitivity about relevant significances for the other.

At present, Polish Police has noticed the importance of society in preventing and fighting crime. The example is a National Safety Threats Map interactive tool where inhabitants can anonymously report information about threats appearing in their neighbourhood forcing appropriate service to react as also radical change of a constable’s work by bringing it closer to citizens. The article describes the legal regulations and functioning of the National Safety Threats Map – an essential element of the public security management process by the Polish Police.

In the issues of terrorist threats, which constitute one of the most serious threats to national security, numerous state organs and institutions are involved, and the effectiveness in combating terrorism depends to a large extent on the coordination of their activities. Increasingthe competence of state bodies in this area can notlead to disproportionate restrictions in exercising freedoms and rights by citizens. The Anti- Terrorism Act enacted by the Parliament in June 2016 does not provide forsuch guarantees. The article analyses the adopted solutions and indicates regulations that raise the greatest doubts.
W kwestii zagrożeń terrorystycznych, stanowiących jedno z najpoważniejszych zagrożeń dla bezpieczeństwa narodowego, włączone są liczne organy i instytucje państwowe, a skuteczność w zwalczaniu terroryzmu w dużej mierze zależy od koordynacji ich działalności. Zwiększenie kompetencji organów państwowych w tym obszarze nie może prowadzić do nieproporcjonalnych ograniczeń w korzystaniu z wolności i praw przez obywateli. Ustawa antyterrorystyczna uchwalona przez parlament w czerwcu 2016 r. nie przewiduje takich gwarancji. Artykuł analizuje przyjęte rozwiązania i wskazuje regulacje wywołujące największe wątpliwości.
