Thermodynamics systems may be classified as isolated, closed, or open based on the possible transfer of mass and energy across the system boundaries. An isolated system is one that is not influenced in any way by the surroundings. This means that no energy in the form of heat or work may cross the boundary of the system. In addition, no mass may cross the boundary of the system. A thermodynamic system is defined as a quantity of matter of fixed mass and identity upon which attention is focused for study. A closed system has no transfer of mass with its surroundings, but may have a transfer of energy (either heat or work) with its surroundings. An open system is one that may have a transfer of both mass and energy with its surroundings. Described system being an object of the paper is an open system for some phenomena. An object the paper is the thermodynamical analysis of the filling process of the cylinder which occurs in calculated period from the percussion cap of the position the piston at TDC to it position at BDC, at constant average value of the pressure in the cylinder. During durations of the filling process of the cylinder, dirt of the working charge combustion products are not taken into account. One accepts that the quantity of the working charge in the established point placed on the compression line by piston BDC is equal quantity of the working charge in the end point of the filling process, answering to the start point of the real compression process. The state of the working charge in cylinder described is four parameters: a pressure, a temperature, quantity moles of the working charge and its volume. For appointment those parameters, earlier worked out dependences are put-upon.

The most important problems concerning analyses of generalized computational thermodynamical working cycle of the four-stroke combustion engine are result of the identification of real indicating diagram. The analysis of working cycle of the four-stroke combustion engine is realized from point of view heat efficiency, the average theoretical cycle pressure, as well as of the influence of the organization working cycle on the value of the maximum pressure in the cylinder of a combustion engine. A novel mathematical model reflecting elementary processes occurring in the cylinder of a combustion engine and connected with it intake and exhaust systems of engine were proposed. Thermodynamical working cycles of four-stroke piston engines, theoretical working cycle of a four-stroke piston engine, thermal efficiency of the theoretical thermodynamic generalised engine work cycle, mean theoretical pressure of the generalised thermodynamic work cycle of a combustion engine, maximum pressure of the theoretical thermodynamic work cycle of a combustion engine, comparative working cycles of piston engines, real working cycle of four-stroke piston engines are presented In het paper. The methods of analyses and calculations referring these engines work cycles were presented. These method show advisability and needs of using them to theoretical calculations and analyses of real work cycles. Generalized engine work cycle was proposed.

The paper presents one of the possible ways optimization of motion of the harbour crane grab minimization of the working (unloading) cycle, energy consumption and material dissipation during the grab discharging. The optimization procedure of the working cycle is divided into two phases. Firstly, it is optimization of the cargo and grab motion and, secondly, determination of motion of the crane mechanisms upon the obtained optimal parameters of cargo and grab trajectory. The developed mathematical model enables direct application of the optimal contral theory methods, i.e. a method of optimization of cargo and grab motion by making use of Pontryagins maximum principle. All relevant expressions are derived analytically.
W pracy przedstawiono jeden z możliwych sposobów optymalizacji ruchu chwytaka dźwigu portowego oraz minimalizacji cyklu roboczego pod kątem ograniczania zużycia energii oraz strat materiału podczas rozładunku. Procedurę optymalizacji cyklu roboczego podzielono na dwie fazy. W pierwszej zoptymalizowano ruch przenoszonego obiektu i chwytaka, podczas gdy w drugiej wyznaczono ruch pozostałych elementów dźwigu dla znalezionej optymalnej trajektorii obiektu i chwytaka. Sformułowany model matematyczny układu umożliwił na bezpośrednie zastosowanie metod teorii optymalnego sterowania, w tym optymalizacji z zasady maksimum Pontriagina. Wszystkie związane wyrażenia wyprowadzono analitycznie.

The paper presents algorithms for marine diesel engines’ working process monitoring designed by analyzing data obtained with IMES pressure sensors. Main features and properties of IMES sensors, used for 2- and 4-stroke modern marine diesel engines, are presented here. The pressure-time diagrams were taken as a basis for creating algorithms for marine diesel engines’ working process monitoring. The task of preliminary calculation of top dead center position (TDC) of a cylinder was solved using polytropic compression equation. TDC position was calculated using the equation P' = 0. Then algorithm for calculating the average indicator pressure and the indicator power of the cylinder has been determined. The CFD methods show how indicator valve channel influences the results of marine diesel engines’ working process monitoring. With the example of compression curves in a cylinder, it’s shown amplitude and phase distortions introduced into pressure measurements by the indicator valve channel. Such research work is important and actual in time due to the use of marine diesel portable performance analysis systems.

The paper concerns the identification process applied for a semi-empirical model of working process in the CI engine. The identification is based on pressure courses in the cylinder recorded during the experimental measurements on the test stand and is performed for estimation of values of the model parameters. Appropriate estimated values of the model parameters ensure minimization of the difference between measured and modelled pressure courses in the cylinder. The identification process can be divided into two stages. The first stage concerns identification of discrete values of the model parameters for a set of discrete engine operating conditions. The task of discrete identification is formulated as a dynamic optimisation task which is sohed using a genetic algorithm. The accuracy of the identification process is evaluated by comparison of measured and calculated values of main parameters which characterize the working cycle such as: the mean indicated pressure, thermal efficiency, the mean indicated pressure in working part of the cycle, maximal pressure of the cycle, the mass of the medium in the cylinder and the crankshaft angle for which the maximal pressure occurred. The second stage concerns generalization of the results for any technically possible engine operating conditions which is sohed by means of approximation. Feed-forward multilayer artificial neural networks are usedfor the approximation. The accuracy of the identification and some examples of verification of the model predictions are presented as well.

We discuss a possible realization of a quantum controlled-NOT gate with the use of two coupled quantum dots. Transitions between quantum states of a computational basis are driven by the microwave π-pulse. The parameters of the proposed nanodevice have been optimized in order to make the operation cycle of the gate as short as possible. Numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation allow us to simulate transitions between the quantum states which correspond to the subsequent stages of the gate's operation. The performed time-dependent simulations are a test of realizability of the quantum controlled-NOT gate in the nanodevice.

The article presents the technique of the usage of mass flow meter to the fill survey of a cylinder in the multi cylinder engine, in each working cycles. The result of correctness of the survey was grounded on the comparison of air masses: the one registered with the usage of the flow meter and the other one calculated on the basis of mixture parameters. The flow meter was located in the consolidated part of suction system in front of the throttle valve. Mixture parameters were determined on the basis of time of fuel injection and measured lzm factor of burnt mixture. The studies were carried out in the whole operating range of engine. Discrepancies between the measured and calculated values for 93% of all of the cycles fall within the ambit of ±3% of the actual value.

An object of the paper is a novel method of effective heat release coefficient appointing during combustion process of the based on the real indicator diagram. The process quality of the heat release during process of combustion is evaluated by value of the effective heat release coefficient. Accepted assumptions at appointing effective coefficient of heat release refer to acceptable that thermodynamical parameters of the working charge according to points of the real indicator diagram and the computational diagram are such the same, the maximum pressure of real working cycle of the engine is equal to the pressure of the computational cycle, work of the working charge performed in period from point of closing of the inlet valve to point of the beginning of the exhaust process are for both considered working cycles equal, heat values of the carried to the real and computational cycle are such the same. The method of appointing of the self-ignition delay period is presented in the paper, using to this end intersection point of two graphs of temperature course of the working charge prepared for the first phase of combustion process. Other methods appointing characteristics is suggested in paper basing on the real indicator diagram. The graphic illustration of the preparing method of characteristics of the relative quantity of the heat release during combustion process is illustrated in paper.

Advanced sensors and measuring technologies make it possible to monitor the product working cycle. This means the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure reliability performance can be designed by monitoring the product working cycle and the consumer’s post-warranty maintenance to sustain the post-warranty reliability can be modeled by tracking the product working cycle. However, the related works appear seldom in existing literature. In this article, we incorporate random working cycle into warranty and propose a novel warranty ensuring reliability performance of the product with random working cycles. By extending the proposed warranty to the post-warranty maintenance, besides we investigate the postwarranty random maintenance policies sustaining the post-warranty reliability, i.e., replacement last (first) with preventive maintenance (PM). The cost rate is constructed for each post-warranty random maintenance policy. Finally, sensitivity of proposed warranty and investigated polices is analyzed. We discover that replacement last (first) with PM is superior to replacement last (first).

W artykule przedstawiona została metoda oceny sprawności cyklu roboczego śmieciarki. Wykorzystując dane eksploatacyjne wyznaczono dwa reprezentatywne cykle i na ich podstawie obliczono zarówno sprawność całego cyklu, jak i jego poszczególnych faz. Porównano wartości energii potrzebnej do opróżniania pojemników, energii do zagęszczania odpadów oraz energii z paliwa. Przedstawiono przebiegi mierzonych i obliczonych wartości w czasie obrazując w ten sposób rzeczywiste przebieg parametrów układu hydraulicznego i obciążenia silnika spalinowego poczas rzeczywistej pracy pojazdu.
In this paper a method of efficiency evaluation of working cycle of Refuse Collection Vehicle is presented. Using real world data, two representative working cycles were analyzed. Total cycle efficiency was calculated, as well as the efficiency of particular cycle phases. Then, energy needed to collect, energy needed to compact the waste and energy from fuel were compared. Measured and calculated values vs time were shown on the diagrams illustrating hydraulic system parameters and the real load applied to the chassis combustion engine.

W artykule podjęto próbę zastosowania prostych równań analizy falkowej do oceny wskaźników cyklu pracy silnika o zapłonie samoczynnym. Analizie poddano wykresy indykatorowe silnika AD3.152 pracującego wg zewnętrznej charakterystyki prędkościowej dla prędkości obrotowej odpowiadającej maksymalnemu momentowi obrotowemu n=1400obr/min i prędkości mocy nominalnej n=2000obr/min. W pracy przedstawiono rzeczywiste wykresy indykatorowe i po odfiltrowaniu zakłóceń. W artykule omówiono wpływ odfiltrowania przebiegu ciśnienia w cylindrze na charakterystyki wydzielania ciepła podczas procesu spalania.
The paper makes an attempt at applying simple equations of wavelet analysis to the assessment of self-ignition engine working cycle indicators. AD3.152 engine indicator diagrams are analysed. The engine operated in external speed characteristics regime for the rotational speed corresponding to the maximum torque n= 1400 rotations/min and power rating speed n=2000 rotations/min. Both real indicator diagrams and those obtained after interference filtration are presented in the paper. The impact of the filtration of pressure changes in the cylinder on heat release characteristics in combustion process is discussed.

The new principle of the organisation of working process of the combined supercharging system of transport diesel with the Cascade Pressure Exchanger (CPE) has been described. It allows considerably to raise level of forcing of the engine by supercharging at the expense of expansion of effective air supply area and coolings of supercharging air to temperature below an ambient. Substantive postulates of imitating model of work of combined engine(CICE) have been stated. Some results of calculation-experimental investigations of supercharging system of the engine 6×Í12/14 have been given. It confirms the possibility of the essential improvement tractive and fuel-economic factors of the transport installations in broad range of the working conditions.

The article presents the results of a numerical simulation of the working process carried out in a diesel engine. In the applied utility program DIESEL-RK, the laboratory engine Farymann Diesel type D10 was implemented. A selected inoperability of its functional fuel supply system - reduced opening pressure of the injector pinj - was introduced. The values of adequate diagnostic parameters were determined: working gas temperature in the cylinder Tcyl, exhaust gas temperature Texh, combustion (flame) temperature Tcomb and concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas NOx. Experimental tests were carried out on the experimental engine with the inoperative condition actually introduced, analogous to the numerical simulation, and the diagnostic parameters Texh and NOx were recorded. The results obtained by numerical simulation of the processes and during the active experiment on the experimental engine were compared.

Main trends of perfection of gas-turbine engines (GTE) of transport plants by application of principles of the cascade pressure exchange (CPE) for air compression in the working cycle of gas-turbine plant have been analyzed. The principle of action and performances of work of heat compressor CPE realizing compression of working body on the whole at the expense straight convert inputting heat in disposing work of torrent with insignificant distraction mechanics work from shaft selection of power has been described. The results of computational investigation of four variants of the GTE working process organization on the basis of the two-staged compression assembly with intermediate cooling and heating of air-gas medium have been adduced. Application of units CPE in the capacity of compressing stage GTE opens the prospect of adaptations GTE performance by conditions of work in the capacity of forcing units of overland transport.

A new method of organization of working cycle of device of direct transformation of heat in the located work of compression of air, based on principle of cascade exchange by pressure, is exposed; the results of pre-selection of basic dimensional and structural parameters of thermal compressor of cascade exchange by pressure are adduced; some special features of its working process are considered; main directions of perfection of working cycle of thermal compressors of cascade exchange of pressure are shown.

This paper presents results of experimental vibration tests of the helicopter turbo-engine compressor blades. The blades used in investigation were retired from maintenance under technical inspection of engine. Investigations were conducted for selected undamaged blades, without existence of preliminary cracks or corrosion pits. The blades during experiment were entered into transverse vibration. The crack propagation process was conducted in resonance condition. During the fatigue test, the growth of crack was monitored. In the second part of work, a nonlinear finite element method was utilized to determine the stress state of the blade during vibration. In this analysis a first mode of transverse vibration were considered. High maximum principal stress zone was found at the region of blade where the crack occurred.

Opis:
Ecological aspects and utilization of biomass as a fuel leads to applying of a closed work cycle in the piston engine. It forces usually to delivering of heat to working medium through a heat exchanger. The heat may get from any type of fuel in an external combustion chamber, which allows on precisely control of combustion process. The paper describes a new conception of the engine operating in two-stroke cycle with working medium being in the close system, the best with the perfect gas as argon or helium. The delivering process of working medium with high temperature from the heat exchanger takes place through the inlet valve during a few dozen degrees of CA rotation in piston position at TDC. Expansion stroke takes place until outlet valve opens shortly BBDC. The outlet period from the cylinder follows almost at constant pressure and at low temperature to an adiabatic chamber, from where the working medium is compressed by an adiabatic compressor to pressure near pressure being in the heat exchanger. The engine works in two-stroke cycle and enables to get low temperature and pressure as early as BDC through a long time of opening of the outlet valve. The paper presents the ideological scheme of the engine system and theoretical thermal cycle. On this basis one presents the theoretical description of the individual thermodynamic processes with determination of thermal parameters of the characteristic points of the cycle. This article determines also the thermal efficiency of such closed cycle. The presented engine may have a practical applying as a stationary engine in energetic systems, where as fuel may be biomass, which globally influences on decreasing of CO2 and NOx by temperature control of the combustion process

Indirectly or externally fired gas turbines (IFGT or EFGT) are interesting technologies under development for small and medium scale combined heat and power (CHP) supplies in combination with micro gas turbine technologies. The emphasis is primarily on the utilization of the waste heat from the turbine in a recuperative process and the possibility of burning biomass even "dirty" fuel by employing a high temperature heat exchanger (HTHE) to avoid the combustion gases passing through the turbine. In this paper, finite time thermodynamics is employed in the performance analysis of a class of irreversible closed IFGT cycles coupled to variable temperature heat reservoirs. Based on the derived analytical formulae for the dimensionless power output and efficiency, the efficiency optimization is performed in two aspects. The first is to search the optimum heat conductance distribution corresponding to the efficiency optimization among the hot- and cold-side of the heat reservoirs and the high temperature heat exchangers for a fixed total heat exchanger inventory. The second is to search the optimum thermal capacitance rate matching corresponding to the maximum efficiency between the working fluid and the high-temperature heat reservoir for a fixed ratio of the thermal capacitance rates of the two heat reservoirs. The influences of some design parameters on the optimum heat conductance distribution, the optimum thermal capacitance rate matching and the maximum power output, which include the inlet temperature ratio of the two heat reservoirs, the efficiencies of the compressor and the gas turbine, and the total pressure recovery coefficient, are provided by numerical examples. The power plant configuration under optimized operation condition leads to a smaller size, including the compressor, turbine, two heat reservoirs and the HTHE.

The paper presents a new concept of the turbine engine in the area of pressure gain combustion (PGE). The engine works according to Humphrey’s cycle. Minor modification in construction has allowed power generation of 500 kW, 700 kW, 1000 kW, and 1800 kW. The concept successfully resolved the challenges related to the temporary opening and closing of the combustion chamber. The presented valve timing system has ensured effective gas flow and what stands behind it, an effective process of conversion of a high-pressure gas impulse into mechanical energy. Rotating combustion chambers enabled the application of an effective sealing system. The concept characterizes simple construction and potentially low power-to-weight coefficient. The CFD numerical analysis of the presented engine concept showed very promising effective efficiency and low specific fuel consumption.

The paper presents a concept of a new turbine engine with the use of rotating isochoric combustion chambers. In contrast to previously analyzed authors’ engine concepts, here rotating combustion chambers were used as a valve timing system. As a result, several practical challenges could be overcome. An effective ceramic sealing system could be applied to the rotating combustion chambers. It can assure full tightness regardless of thermal conditions and related deformations. The segment sealing elements working with ceramic counter-surface can work as self-alignment because of the centrifugal force acting on them. The isochoric combustion process, gas expansion, and moment generation were analyzed using the CFD tool (computational fluid dynamics). The investigated engine concept is characterized by big energy efficiency and simple construction. Finally, further improvements in engine performance are discussed.

In the paper presented have been the results of the analysis of effectiveness of operation of binary power plant consisting of combined two Clausius-Rankine cycles, namely the binary cycle with water as a working fluid in the upper cycle and organic substance as a working fluid in the lower cycle, as well as a single fluid component power plant operating also in line with the C-R cycle for superheated steam, with water as a working fluid. The influence of the parameters of superheated steam in the upper cycle has been assessed as well as the type of working fluid in the lower cycle. The results of calculations have been referred to the single-cycle classical steam power plant operating at the same parameters of superheated steam and the same mass flow rate of water circulating in both cycles. On the basis of accomplished analysis it has been shown that the binary power plant shows a greater power with respect to the reference power plant.

High energy consumption of grinding processes forces to search for new solutions required for grinding mineral raw materials. Complexity of grinding processes such as nonlinearity, delay, instability of ball mill requires application of new tools to control these objects. In the report was carried out study of implementation of methods based on theory of artificial neuron grid. In part 1 was introduced procedure of grinding system identification based on example of cement dry mill operating in closed system with air separator. In part 2 will be introduced synthesis of neurocontroller. The presentation is a summary of doctor’s thesis carried out by author.

The paper presents different lengths of working capital cycle and cash conversion cycle in manufacturing companies in Poland in two sub-periods: 2001-2004 and 2005-2008. The conducted research shows that the working capital cycle is varied, related to the sector. In most sections it has a positive value and is longer than 18 days in the first analyzed period, while in the period of 2005-2008 it is longer than 35 days. This means that companies have enough working capital for an increasingly long period of time. The cash conversion cycle in the analyzed period also varied in particular years and sections. In most sectors it was longer than 30 days, which means that enterprises require additional financing in a period of more than one month. On the basis of conducted research we can conclude that the policy of working capital and cash management was appropriate, adjusted to the current economic situation of the country.

During investigation concerning internal processes taking place in internal combustion engine, the basic measurement is in-cylinder pressure signal. Obtained results were used as input data for calculating basic parameters of working cycle (e. g. function of fuel combustion, function of reach of torque, the temperature function during combustion). The main problem during the interpretation of obtained results, are minor differences between the functions of pressures existing in following working cycles of the engine. The parameters of following working cycle (e.g. stability of working point, engine speed r0 , torque Mo,e) depend on processes taking place in combustion chamber and stability of set point values. The one of the most important parameter deciding about differences between following working cycles are the loss of the air-fuel mixture. Mentioned processes cause problems with proper creating of reference cycle. In this paper results concerning indication researches of combustion engine with spark ignition have been presented. The indicator functions of following cycles were analyzed. Obtained results were used to determination define the influence of the engine parameters on the maximum pressure in collected pressure functions. Over 200 following working cycles were analyzed. The low engine speed (r0 =1000 rpm) was constant. The torque was changed from idle run up to maximum value. All results were analyzed statistically. The function of density and distribution of maximal pressure in cylinder of engine were determined. Besides an index of maximum indication pressure unrepeatability was determined on the basis of measurement data.
W badaniach procesów wewnętrznych (metoda indykacji) zachodzących w silnikach spalinowych, podstawowym sygnałem mierzonym jest chwilowa wartość ciśnienia w cylindrze silnika. Zasadniczy problem podczas interpretacji uzyskanych wyników stanowią znaczne różnice przebiegów ciśnień, w następujących po sobie cyklach pracy silnika spalinowego (głównie w silniku ZI). Niepowtarzalność cykli powoduje istotne trudności z wyznaczaniem tzw. obiegu reprezentatywnego. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań indykacyjnych silnika spalinowego z zapłonem iskrowym, pracującego przy niskiej prędkości obrotowej. Szczegółowej analizie poddano wykresy indykatorowe w kolejnych następujących po sobie cyklach pracy. Uzyskane wyniki pomiarowe zostały wykorzystane do określenia wpływu parametrów obciążenia silnika spalinowego (Mo, r0), na wartość ciśnienia maksymalnego w zebranych wykresach indykatorowych. Analizie poddano 240 następujących po sobie, cykli roboczych w wybranych punktach pracy silnika. Wykorzystano wskaźnik niepowtarzalności cykli, oparty o wartość ciśnienia maksymalnego w danym cyklu, przy uwzględnieniu także jego wartości średniej. Całość wyników poddano niezbędnej obróbce statystycznej; wyznaczone zostały funkcje gęstości oraz funkcje rozkładu ciśnienia maksymalnego w cylindrze silnika. Ponadto na podstawie zebranych danych pomiarowych wyznaczono wskaźnik niepowtarzalności maksymalnego ciśnienia indykowanego. Zaprezentowane wyniki stanowią rezultaty drugiego etapu badań w odniesieniu do pracy [6].
